- My brother bought my 1987 Chevrolet k1500 I picked up in Missouri to get back home from a trip. I'm going to surprise him with a quick makeover/budget build before he picks it up! I found a $119 Acrylic Enamel paint kit on eBay I'm going to use, as well as put on new tires and wheels. I'll also cover how to set up your spray gun, how to mix paint, and some general do's and don'ts for auto body repair I've picked up over the years. I'm no expert, but if you want a solid 23 foot paint job, here's your video!

I did one paint job, back in the 90s, had a car i needed changed color wise, drove to an old abandoned factory, parked in a covered shipping truck dock, and at 11pm taped up the car, and sprayed with about 29 cans of gloss red, no primer, no sanding, spent 3 hours painting and another 2 hours swcond coating it. Sat up on the truck dock and watched the sun start to break the horizon over the bay, then untaped (agreed best part of painting) and drove off in a glossy red car, actually looked extremely good considering.
Went back to the street races on geary blvd the next night and re-raced the same guys i had beaten just 72 hours earlier and took them again, good times in my 20s, memories we take with us to the grave.
Did you spray paint your face too so they didn't recognize you? 😂

@MJW Noname this is why I made sure my truck had dual climate controls and heated seats.
I didn't have that problem. I worked in a foundry the heat didn't bother me. We'd be going somewhere in the truck,she'd complain about the heat. I finally told her the heater control was hers she could do what she wanted with it. Problem solved.
@@fredshipp3809 I've done that and then ended up roasting while she was still too cold. Got dual climate and heated seats and solved the problem for the most part.

Here’s a tip with no running water; blue window cleaner with added 10% acetone. Spray on, wipe to dry. Do it again. Great prep when you can’t wash. Prob not good method if you’re going for a riddler award, but get something one color, it’s worked for me for 30 years.

I think that people in general can learn something by watching his videos and that is how to be real and honest. Often times guys forget how all this got started and they act like they're building an airplane or space craft.

Proceeds to explain every single solitary thing you need to know to start painting cars. I just love that I can watch this channel with my wife and daughters and not have to worry about foul language. This guy is a great father and excellent role model.

It’s 10pm and my dogs sick. Drove over an hour to find a 24hr dog emergency room. 2 to 5 hr wait. A guy wand his best bud are having a bad day but decided to whip out the hand held digicle computer and saw a new vcg, then he said “ alright a fella can wait”.

Thanks the doctor just called me from inside and the old girl has a pretty bad eye infection and glaucoma but she should recover minus possibly losing eyesight in her right eye. All in all could be worse so I can’t complain.

My friends in the painting business have a term for what you are doing on this truck, when they know that certain jobs does not require a full professional paint job, normally those jobs are usually free or low quote to help people that can't afford a Pro-paint job. The boss would tell the Painters in such cases, "Just do a "boom bam thank you Mam" on this one! and they know just what the Boss means.

I've used old newspaper for about 20 years painting my vehicles. The most important thing to remember… The comics go on the passenger side and the sports sections need to go on the driver side.

Just wanted to say that your a very considerate brother. Wish my brother was like you. I’m 65 and been disabled since I turned forty after a stroke then a year later. I’ve got an old 99 Chevy Silverado with the 2000 body style and yesterday coming back from the doctor my oil pressure dropped below 20 psi and I guess I’ll be without away to go now since my wife maxed out the credit cards and ruined our credit. I just found that she just did it not long ago when a cop was at my door handing me a lean against my home. Now I have four leans. I guess I’ll sit and just watch the house fall apart and my truck rust back to dirt. A man doesn’t have a chance with this woman. Thanks again for such a great job on the paint job and giving it to your brother. I like all of your videos.
Wrenching is all about the fun. The best advice is to walk away when things aren't going well. Generally the next day the problem will go away. Keep it fun and you can enjoy this type of work for years.
When I was young - 18 - I had a 66 Belair which needed new tie rod ends. I didn't have a pickle fork; didn't know they existed, so tried to use big screwdrivers to separate them. I got frustrated to the point of getting out from underneath the car and bashing the drinkers side front fender with my big ball peen to the point the car was highly unsightly while screaming a string of profanities at the top of my lungs at God.
Gee; I loved that old car and should have walked away.
Like my Dad used to tell me, some jobs you do so they look “good from far, and far from good.”

For anyone planning on doing a at-home paint job, I can't stress enough. Buy a p100 cartridge mask, use gloves and ventilate. Most people doing at home jobs are still using solvent based products, guys use to drop dead in body shops from them. Doing budget builds is awesome, but never skip out when it comes to your health.
Nah it's just a bump on the forehead. Just have a buddy pull you out to the air.
