  • The new Samsung M8 Monitor doesn't quite have the specs to match up against the Studio Display from Apple, but that won't stop us from talking about it. In this clip, Marques and Andrew talk about the monitor and what they like/don't like about it.

Honestly having the smart tv is really cool, when you aren’t at your desk using a desktop computer is really inconvenient. Being able to just use a regular remote to browse CZcams Netflix etc is much better. To be fair I think a laptop makes way more sense for individual watching, but for people that want more of a TV experience e.g. for group watching, it’s super cool.

@@hirnfaser7245 it's just better to control from distance with actual TV UI and remote than with a mouse that controls a very small pointer on it. So for anyone that gets far from the screen to watch content it's great. Also great for group watching or just watching while laying in bed. It's great for 3D artists or video editors on the cheap that might want to consume content while the PC is rendering.
I gave on of the earlier ones as a gift to my fiancé, and it's actually bad for any of these uses, because it's 250nits and you can't disable HDR. So whenver you try to watch something in HDR it's hot garbage. But it's a great monitor and I got it cheap so it's fine.

Weirdly enough, due to licensing agreements, most streaming services do not allow 4K streaming over the web on computers, tablets, or smartphones. You actually need to have a Smart TV platform of some kind in order to get 4K and HDR content. So the SmartTV aspect here actually makes a lot of sense, even if you're still sitting on your desk while watching content.

Hit the nail on the head with why some people will like the smart TV functionality Marques. Other main reason is that almost every streaming service limits streaming on PC to 1080p. The only real way to take advantage of a nice 4K HDR display for streamed content is to hook up a 4k Roku, Amazon, Google or whatever streaming stick, so this is perfect for that as well.

Almost all of Apple's products are second or third to the market. If you've never used the Samsung Note 9, then you really don't have a clue how primitive IOS was compared to Android for many years.

Google CEO had access to ios development strategies and they made android. So did Microsoft by emulating mackintosh. By your logic, motorola and Ford should reign supreme in cellular and automobile technologies now. Apple waits for technology to mature. The first or second doesn’t matter. Note 9 I used and it is still being used by my sister. OLED burn and highly saturated screen must be appealing to people who like gaudy things.
If android is that great, why do all ruckus of android makers earn peanuts compared to apple? Let’s presume that most people are not think tanks and highly intelligent like you.

@@Tutelage810 OMG your knowledge of the technical history is so incredibly flawed. Both Google and Apple ripped off Nokia and Blackberry who had worked out most of the features of smart phones before either company. The entire Android "rip-off" myth is something Apple tells themselves to sooth their egos at having lost the mobile phone battle.
Again, your knowledge of technology history is flawed. Xerox and UNIX did most of the work on GUIs in the 1970's and 1980's. Apple and Microsoft built on that work. Moreover, like inventing colour, figuring out that a GUI with a window could use graphic "buttons and dials" (you know like a radio from the 1930's) isn't exactly genius.
At no point did I say that being first meant that a company becomes a market leader. Economic research is very clear - being second or third as a technology adopter is usually more successful and that is the genius of Apple. Not being technology leader is an feature, not a bug of the Apple organization.
Windows - 75% of the PC market.
Android - 72% of the mobile phone market.
Pretty much by definition Apple is not a market leader. Yes, Apple gets more profit from their sales. Another way of saying Apple overcharges and has plenty of fanboys who think that is a plus.
Repeating myself: I don't have a problem with Apple, it's with the fan boys who think the sun shines out of Apple's pastel coloured, rounded notch. Apple does not innovate, it integrates and markets.
Tell your sister that if she wants better colours to change the display to "photographs" on her Note 9. I suppose being an Apple fanboy having options or actually learning how to use something is an alien concept.

My spouse and I have pared our home computing down to just our smartphones - minus the very few instances where the cripplingly old laptop she took from work steps in - and the wireless Dex setup for my Galaxy S22 Ultra I've been building. I was just recently looking at the 32" M7 monitor (2020) when I came across the M8, which is fortuitous timing. The feature set of this monitor would work PERFECTLY for our use case since I sometimes use my office as a private media room (TV, music, gaming, etc) away from our main TV/media room but want added work functionality which the Office 365 capability would help bolster in addition to Google's options via Android/S22 Ultra. Plus, the included, detachable webcam would alleviate the need for yet another separate device. Also, on top of the incredible functionality, this monitor looks absolutely amazing and in white would fit perfectly into my office decor from an aesthetics standpoint. Personally, I think Samsung nailed this monitor and creating a new product niche. Apple, did too with their 30" monitor going back to the Mac Pro Quad, but it has a narrow rising look to it that leave both of them quite distinctive (and yes I really know what I'm talking about regards the distinctive look, I have that 30" monitor still here now on a spare pc we use for media, which I bought way back around 2007). the recent stand with the apple pro 6k display and this one look flat and geometric, and are to my mind clearly copying Samsung. I got the M7 predecessor to this - Samsung had discounted it and also had a cashback to clear stocks ready for the M8, so I got it for £187 ($244 inc tax). At that price, the M7 was well worth it just for being a 32" 4K monitor.
After trying them out once (the built-in Office stuff was horribly laggy/slow and it had a Teams icon that told you it does nothing and you have to run Teams on your PC instead - ridiculous, but maybe they fixed that in the M8, especially now there's a webcam included), I don't even bother using any of the smart features because I have a Linux desktop attached.
I did do the initial setup in my kitchen with nothing attached for the lolz and I do use the remote control to turn it off and on, but that's it. Every monitor, dumb or smart, should have a remote control in addition to onboard controls - it makes monitor UI navigation so much more convenient. One thing that the M7 suffered from was being a rather dark display (I believe this has been improved with the M8), but I found the right M7 settings to boost the brightness to a reasonable level (no, it's not just increasing the brightness to 50 [yep, 50 is the max, not 100]).
The M8? Well, the $729 price is frankly ludicrous - three times the price of my M7! I like the M8 webcam (but I have a good Logitech USB 1080p webcam attached to my Linux PC already), but very little else seems to have improved over the M7. In fact, the M8 is available in 4 colours, none of which are the M7's black (all my kit is black and I suspect I'm not the only one) - it's very dumb of Samsung to not offer the M8 in black.
Conclusion: M8 is a nice monitor but massively overpriced and not a big enough advance over the M7 to justify its price or even its existence. It's made me even happier that I got the M7 so cheap (trying to find a sub-£200 32" 4K dumb monitor in the UK is impossible, let alone a smart one).

    • @mayank09pratap
      @mayank09pratap Před 2 lety +1

@@mrlloyd149 there could be any number of reasons. People buy TVs and monitors less often as compared to smartphones, may be that's why these companies aren't willing to invest too much into them. Or it could be a aesthetic decision. Sometimes TVs and monitors have button and ports on the bottom so that requires some space.
And i think M8's bezels looks pretty good. Considering the bezel to screen size ratio , it should bother you (unlike iMac 😅).

I upgraded from the iphone 6 to the 1200 iphone X and that was the end of me ever buying Apple products. I basically paid 1200 bucks for a longer battery and display that a millimeter bigger. Thing didn't look much better and was just as slow. Switched to Samsung, way faster, way better interface and better screen at the time and never have looked back.

Trust me, you want a 32" Monitor and stop saying the Apple is so chique because there is a world of difference. The M8 was announced months ahead, Samsung is not nailing it, in fact you can state that Apple is copying Samsung. This monitor is in fact 1200 dollars (if you factor in the height adjustability) cheaper than the Apple monitor. The Apple Monitor is also 27".
The M8 is definitely a great concept having an ability to be a smart TV on top of a reasonable monitor. Just to brush it off as garbage is your biggest mistake.

In Markets like Austria the Smart TV Feature is a really nice thing to have. We have to pay a fee for just owning a TV because TVs come with a TV Tuner built in. You can only get around this fee if you only stream tv and radio via internet, but the tv tuner has to be removed from the TV (which would require bringing it to a shop, which specializes in removing this part. New TVs would lose the warranty, so this is not the ideal way). Monitors come without a TV Tuner, so they are ideal with a smart tv feature or with a Apple TV Box plugged in.
