Thank You Oilur. After hours of research so far this is the very first video OR article that even mentions this model. Like a hidden gem.
Fair to say the amount of monitors all depends on the type of work one does. I tend to use Audition and After Effects side by side along with another windows that I tend to use so having 2 monitors is ideal. An iPad is nice when using Gmail and Slack constantly.
Bro.. you just read my mind and did my work for me.. I have been in the hunt for a monitor with the exact same specifications.. Big thanks!!
It's google that spammed you the video based on your research
@@mvnfre_music
Still This video was perfect for someone like me....
I needed it...
I had a 24" 1080p version of this from Philips for a couple of years and loved it, got rid of it for space reasons. Great shout!
Been looking forward to this video. Continue the awesome work 💪🏾🙏🏾
That monitor looks super well rounded. I'm excited to see what the new 4k OLEDs are like.
I just bought this monitor, and I'm getting it next week, I was a bit scared that I made a mistake, but your review has alleviated that, thanks!
Seriously, thank you for saving me the effort of tedious research 🙏
I’m also using a laptop with a single monitor, but I do prefer using a dock rather than using the monitor as the “hub” and power delivery etc.
It really convenient to have the laptop only plug into the dock, and everything just works
What dock do you use? I've never used a dock but maybe its better than using a monitor like this...
@@Astar337 I’m using the Dell thunderbolt dock
Wow. This is such a detailed video! Thankyou
This monitor is on sale on Amazon currently and this review has pretty much convinced me to get it. Been looking a while for a solid 4k monitor at a decent price. Early Xmas present this year!
I like bezel-less 27" / 31" Philips 279M1RV a bit more which I think is the same in all other features
Non the less, great vid!
ah yes! I got the Gigabyte M32U, and it has been serving me well! Used it for my PC and PS5, very satisfied overall
I have Gigabyte M28U and I see pixels on my Mac. Bad scaling with mac os
thanks for the video, Ive looking a monitor like this for a long time
Thank you for the video Oliur
I used to be multi too but now use single and have my laptop and tablet, as well as my phone nearby which all sync together really well. We have a lot more screen options nowadays.
Glad you found your one true special love
appears that 144hz is only available via DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1, not using USB-C as in your setup. Top notch review and thanks for sharing. Adding this to the short list of monitors to go with for my newest work station.
I've been looking for something like this in YEARS. A Monitor that is suitable for both design work and gaming. Sadly I've got a power hungry 16" MBP so I couldn't really take advantage of the "one cable" setup but anyways I appreciate this video!
I found Acer nitroXV282K to be interesting as well. Pretty much same specs with the one in video. The only evident difference would be being 28 inch. Currently on sale for around $400.
Saw it’s originally $899 on Acer official.
I have the 32 inch version of does and just added an led strip to the bag, got it for £600
great video as always🔥💯
Great find
Clean setups!
hey can you do a studio/office/room tour ? I like the color scheme of your workspace and need some inspiration.
I'm about to switch to Mac from windows since '97. Question: don't all hubs limit the FH to 60hz? Especially in a dual monitor setup?
I think the lg 27gp950-b is pretty good. Although it doesn’t have usb-c
I agree. I had wide screen, 55 inch TV and 43 inch TV for monitor, now I'm using only one 27 inch monitor. One monitor is enough.
Damn wtf bro using two TVs as monitors
Love your videos! Here's a random question for you... Can I ask whether the volume up / down / mute buttons work when connected via usb-c with an audio out from the monitor? It doesn't work with my current Dell and it drives me MAD!!
Great video man! Wanted to know where you got the stands for your speakers please?
What about switching between connected devices? Especially between a connected mac and pc incl. Keyboard and mouse?
Hey love your Videos! Can you do a long term Review of this Monitor? Cause i heard about people saying about burn ins after 6 months of use… thxx.
Innocn 32" 4k mini-led. It's amazing. 90w power delivery, 144hz, hdr1000, color accurate. It's worth your time to check out!
Never heard of this company before. Looks incredible. Too bad they don't ship in my country
Just got this a month ago and can confirm it is amazing. Have a one-monitor setup with my laptop and PS5 both hooked up to it.
i love how this monitor so thick
I've actually been thinking about this a lot recently. How's the color accuracy?
Sir, is it better compared to the evening spectrum 120 hz monitor
I'm a university student in graphic design and also do streaming/ some comp gaming. I've been debating either getting a second dedicated monitor LG ULTRAFINE. or just getting something hybrid that I could use for kind of everything. Currently have a zowie 240 hz that i use for gaming and with my macbook with a kvm switch. Just thinking of investing in a proper monitor for creative work. Does anyone have suggestions? (this video game at the perfect time haha thanks so much!)
What would be your recommendation if you’re just looking for 1440p?
Could never go back to a single monitor. Espeically for work.
Great video though!!
Lovely aesthetic
Hey, what laptop stand are you using? Also, would you say this monitor might be too much for someone who is simply in school and programming? The 27“ 32 is too much.
I don’t game, well on my TV, but I don’t plan on playing games on the monitor.
Could I also get your two cents on the recent BenQ eyecare monitor that just dropped
LG C2/C3 42’’ OLED all the way. Works @ 120hz on my MacBookPro M1 via USB-C (4k native, for my work as a Product Designer) and @ 120hz for gaming via HDMI 2.1 to my gaming PC. I had a 32’’ before and thought 42 will be way too big but after a very short time I settled and I wouldn’t want to go back.
That’s a TV, not a monitor 😂
But yeh I’ve seen quite a few people do this. Doesn’t make sense for my needs though.
I am surprised to hear that the C3 42“ has USB-C as an input? I thought only HDMI was available.
Oh yeah I don’t think it does!
For 32" 4k do you run it at 150% or 100% scaled on macOS? I've been looking to replace my 5+ year old LG 27" 4k60 monitor and I am tempted by going a bit bigger but wondering about the level of scaling needed to get a good (not fuzzy) look. Currently I can get away with running my 27" at 200% so it "looks like" a 1080p screen which is okay for me but sometimes I wish I had a bit more desktop real estate but I didn't like how it looked when at 150% scaled 🤔
Like it that's clean 💚🍃
How do you resolve the issue from the firmware update not available for Mac OS?:( that's my only concern to buy it!
7:39 speaking of Thunderbolt dock, can you please do Thunderbolt 4 comparison review among popular brand such as Caldigit, Anker, Satechi? Need to weigh between functionality that is able to supply enough power delivery for MacBook Pro 16inch and budget 😂😊
Does this monitor play with with an iPad Pro? if so, it may just very well be a great one stop monitor. I am looking to get something as an alternative to the Studio Display..
Just say the name of the monitor bro because the link aint working if you in a different country
Looks like you must’ve had a lot better luck than me or else it’s just a puff piece. I bought the 4K 27 inch Phillips monitor on 4/10/24 thinking it had met all my criteria, such as 96 W charging, 4K, and 4 year warranty. To my surprise, no USB-C to USB-C cable included. The Quickstart said to not adjust past 5° downward or the screen may fall off. The monitor has very tiny bezels all around so when you try to adjust it, you can see the screen distort just from your fingertips. Another problem I encountered was the brightness would go up and down when I went from one screen to the next. The menu control is also horribly designed and I wouldn’t expect the cheap toggle switch to work very long either. Needless to say, I placed this back in the box within 2 hours, and sent it on its way to Amazon for a refund of my $400 4K resolution on a MacBook is ridiculous. You have to scale it back to 1440 so what’s the point just to gain a few extra pixels? 👺🖥️
I have sense bought the 27 inch ASUS PA278 CV for $249 US with 65 watt charging and 1440 resolution plus it came with a USB-C to USB-C cable for my MacBook Air. In addition it has a three-year warranty. worked perfectly right out of the box. Great color and charges the MacBook at 65 watts and best of all I saved over $150.🖥️😁
I think it is easy to hit all your requirements nowadays.
But when once you want a wide gamut, color accurate monitor in addition to the previous requirements, it gets very hard.
Ay Oilur
How's the color accuracy when connected to the Mac for editing?
I've pulled the trigger thanks to your recommendation. Gonna give it 30 days.
need that christmas sale to buy some wallpapers pack 😂🔥
Great video and glad you talked about the 5k resolution for retina. The scaling on 4K monitors is horrible coming from a retina 5k display at work. Studio display is horribly expensive and I can’t find a good way to repurpose my old gorgeous 27” iMac retina screen from 2015 with my MBP M1 without changing the motherboard and scrapping the whole computer inside… Anyways good video 👌
Have you looked into Luna Display Thunderbolt wired? It uses two Thunderbolt ports on the MBP M1 so unless is a 14in M1 Pro it leaves no ports left for charging, but it does support 5k. Also, if you do choose to gut the motherboard, Luke Miani has a great CZcams video for how to replace the board for a 5k display board (About $200) An alternative for "perfectly scaled" retina is the LG 24 4k, which I got used for $350 and I'm happy with. I didn't need 27".
@@mimandshaindy4906 Thanks I didn’t know Luna display had a wired option but double cable and a whole second computer running is overkill compared to plug and play of the studio display. Plus the studio has great speakers which declutters the space (Luca’s solution does not use the speakers unfortunately). Your option to go 4K 24” is interesting if the scaling is working alright but I thought Mac would anyway output 5k and resize to 4K adding extra workload on the Mac to resize in non native resolution… so in the end the studio display just makes more and more sense despite the high price tag it’s a long term investment for all future Mac machines I feel.
@@PierreFromentin No, MacOS won’t output 5k and rescale to 4K on a 4K 24” display. It will default to a 4K scaled perfectly 2:1 as a 1080P which looks great. There are only two options for a 4K 24 inch option right now though. Both are from LG. One is optimized for macOS and cost $600 the other is more budget at $300. Dell used to offer one but discontinued it. You could find it on the used market.
Does this have a built-in KVM switch? And how to seamlessly switch between Mac and PS5?
How's the color accuracy of this monitor?
What’s the model? Can’t use the Amazon link
I bought Samsung odyssey g7, 4k 28”, it doesn’t have usb type c but it has speakers witch is perfect for ps5. With adapter type-c -> display port I have 144hz refresh rate. I use it with MacBook Air m1
@ollier what is your black furniture ? Did you already introduce it somewhere ? The model looks like the one I would expect. Could be nice if I can get the reference
I would not recommend to use a 34" 4K monitor for MacOS as that will bring big issues with scaling. Things will either not look the right size (too small or too big) OR the scaling will look fine but it will take a toll on performance because of the extra processing needed to use the scaling options in between 4K and 1080p.
4K panels should be avoided unless you don't mind having your MacBook with worse performance and at higher temperatures than normal every time you connect to a display.
thank you . can you help with a vga connection option ? and mini pc option for music production
I also went through the same meme cycle over the past 15 years.
Now I’m using the Dell G3223Q. 4K 32” 144hz IPS.
I don’t get the USBC, but I’m using a Dell dock that my husband’s company sent him for WFH, so I’m still able to get a one cable solution for my MBP
I am having the same setup of one monitor and laptop. I'm planning to connect my PS5 as well. Currently, I'm using extension cord for monitor and laptop and connect them using hdmi cord. How you switch between laptop and PS5.Pls advise
Team one monitor let's go
I hoped you would go into a bit more detail about all of the 4k scaling problems.
I use Samsung M7 32 inches and it does the same job as Philips monitor do. Except 144 hz refresh rate. Plus the monitor built-in tizen os and airplay 2 option. I paid the 1/4 money and it's really enjoyable and useful monitor. I use the monitor for my ubuntu laptop, macmini desktop, amazon prime and netflix streaming and watching satellite tv in the mean time. Philips should reconsider this price tag.
Isn't the M7 max 60hz? This monitor does 144hz
The Phillips link for Amazon is not working
how is the audio on the philips one? I have a mobiuz ex3210u and loving the audio included
Operating the monitor at non-native resolution is certainly not optimal. I imagine that configuring the setup to operate at 3840x2160 if that is in fact possible even for a 32 inch monitor would result in text and other items appearing too small. Unfortunately, there are not too many options for Mac users in the monitor space that work optimally with a Mac.
whats the light used over the desk, giving that cinematic look
Do you have issues switching the input between hdmi and dp/usb c? A lot of people are reporting issues with this monitor.
What speakers do you recommend for a Mac mini setup?
Does the USB-C power to macbook allow a user to put the macbook in clamshell mode (which requires the macbook to be plugged into power)? I'd love to have one of my 2 USB-C ports to be freed up on my MBA.
Did you try usbc to display port? for 144hz? Only issue is you won't get the power the other way.
Is there a way to hang up the monitor tightly to the wall, because I will need more space for a stand and other things?
Maybe a noob question but when filming how do you voice over with b roll in the back?
What mouse & keyboard are you using currently?
Does it have a built-in KVM switch so you can use the same keyboard and mouse with 2 computers?
I'd be interested to know about MacOS scaling on this, as I'm sure you know it scales in 1440p, so the PPI for this monitor is not optimal, but how noticeable is this. Great video as normal!
I show that in the last part of the video.
Nothing will be as good as the studio display or Pro Display XDR.
@@Oliur So the Phillips monitor lets you have the unique Mac OS scaling but it's not as sharp because the panel is just not as good. 800 dollar monitor compared to 2K.
It is very noticeable. And the single reason why I went with (and recommend) the 5K Studio Display.
It's unpleasant especially on a 32 inch display. If you want 32, look into the Dell 6k as an alternative. For 27 inch, the LG Ultrafine 5k is still available and frequently on sale for 1100. It can be purchased used for $700.
Hey, using only one multi purpose monitor (meaning productivity, gaming etc) do you have or know some method for switching video output for example between Mac and PS5 by some software or keys, not manually with the small button on the back of the monitor ??? Thanks.
I think MSI 274UPF is the best/performance monitor on the market.
How do text/fonts look on this setup? I currently have a Dell 2k 144hz paired with my M1 MBP and the text/fonts are horrible and cause eyestrain
I found an LG monitor that ticks all those boxes (I think) except for the vrr! It's the LG Ultrafine display 4k 31.5in (32UQ750)
I had this monitor - the only thing the Dough (incredibly scammy company btw) has over this is the USB 3.1 gen 2 ports (so actually guaranteeing higher speed data transfer). This is a good buy, I prefer the 27" size. Otherwise you have the Cooler Master not as well known but also quite good.
The Dough also has 100W power delivery, slimmer bezels, is a lot thinner, and is one of the sleekest designed monitors ever made imo... Not sure how the colors/visuals compare but I am very satisfied with how mine looks. It's also $599 at the moment and in-stock both on their site and at 3rd party retailers, so it shouldn't be risky to buy one and worry about it not shipping.
As for the negatives, yeah, Dough is a horrible company, so if you want peace of mind that your warranty will be honored, or don't want to support a scummy company, don't buy it. The firmware is also quite awful and buggy, but I've gotten used to working around it and it's not too much of an issue for me anymore.
What monitor would you recommend if I'm playing 2 player game?
How did you connect keyboard and mouse to both systems?
I'm buying this now - thank you I was going cross eyed with what to get. I'll report back.
i believe 1080p 1440p 4k moniters were more built to be used on gaming consoles like Xbox and Nintendo sony and playstation and u can hook up a Sega Dreamcast if u buy a av multi out converter
Don't agree on the 1 x external monitor for all use cases. I do cloud architecture and couldn't live with one monitor when compiling documents, creating diagrams, writing code, responding to mails and performing research whilst taking notes.
I notice the laptop in use (MacBook Air) has a one monitor limitation and believe this is possibly the real reason.
Nice clean setup and good vid prod btw.
What light do you use over the monitor? ☺️
Pity these Philips monitors aren't available in Australia. It's like we are in Narnia. They'd sell so well if they were cause it seems like it covers all the bases quite well!
I’m deciding between this and the glossy 4k dough spectrum from B&H. What monitor between these two would you recommend? If this had a glossy display I would for sure go this route.
If you like glossy the Alogic Clarity is also a good 4k option.
Stellar review! Quick question How fast is the sleep wake function when connected to MacBook Pro? Is their a delay? Or does it work flawlessly
There is a delay but it’s not significant. By the time you sit down and get yourself comfortable at your desk, it will be ready.
What size table are you using in this video?
I have a Mac mini. Would you recommend me a Mac mini/ps5 with this monitor?
Gigabyte M28U has bad scaling with MacOS. Some apps have pixel fonts. Does Philips 279M1RV/00-27 have the same scaling?
Phillips! I'm surprised they're still around.
Hi Oliur
Could you show me the desk size?
Big thx
Hows the local dimming and black levels? Color accurate?
Looks cool, but I haven't been able to find any info regarding it's performance, I'm talking about ghosting, artifacts, response times, color accuracy. The product page in Phillips mentions an IPS panel, but it's not specified whichh one, so there's no way to compare it with other monitors sporting the same panel, or to measure the panel's potential.
Where do you mention the model of the monitor??? The Amazon links don't work for me...
Doesn't appear to be sold in Australia, and via that Amazon link, costs $2092.03 + $345.42 for postage.
So, that's a big NO from me (and most Australians).
