2:33 The donor A1200 seen in this video will actually end up creating TWO A1200s; the one made in this video, and a second one in a video coming soon. Who said these were getting rarer?

Thanks for watching! As mentioned, whilst I can easily respray my case beige again, actually my faulty A1200 will end up creating TWO new Amigas! Who said these were getting rarer? 😉 Link in description to build yours 👍🕹️
Hi, thanks for everything you do. I love your channel! Just out of interest - I noticed a lot of retro channels are covering these "mini" recreations - it seems more interest than I'd have expected, but hey, I'm probably just odd. That said, do the makers incentivise you to cover the machine?
@@bencollier3758 Thanks! And no there’s zero financial incentive. I had already preordered one before they even offered free review units to me and others. All opinions are 100% unbiased ☺️ As a rule I can’t make videos about something I’m not genuinely excited by. Glad you liked it!
@@RetroRecipes Ah, cool. Keep up the great work!
i'm curious why you didnt use the db9 ports on the keyrah? you could then plug a joystick in.. great build btw.. i'm tempted to resurrect my a1200 pi having seen this. also, is the backplate acrylic?
@@bazza5699 Because I personally like the new gamepad and have plenty of other USB controllers ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
They should have just made the Maxi. The time for minis was years ago, with micro computers it was pretty clear everyone wanted a working keyboard. I certainly wont buy one until I see that working keyboard. Nicely done making this custom mod though! Wonderful!
Perhaps you should tell all those people who have gone out and bought a mini, that they all made a big mistake and mini consoles are no good. I'm sure they will welcome your input, see the error of their ways and throw them away. Of course, RGL might need a way of raising cash for a maxi version, which is more complicated and therefore expensive... but I'm sure you have expert advice for them too?
@@another3997 I am waiting for the Maxi, this was a cool mod. Consider anger management
@CoffeCupArcade you do realise that they wont consider building a maxi unless the mini sells well right?
totally agree! The mini, although cool and that, kinda sucks without a working keyboard. if they did one like this from the get go it be much better! 💪
You probably live in your own world...as People (like me LOVE mini's and collect them). I and many others have NO ROOM for such big equipment. They should have just made the A500 Mini Keyboard functional.
I have a C64 Mini, PSONE Mini, Genesis Mini, and seeking other mini consoles. I have access to the original Large sized ones and I just give them away or don't buy them.. Had them before. Many People feel like me, infact the majority. That is why Mini's sell.
I'm waiting for a more "official" THEA1200MAXI to be released (fingers crossed), but this is awesome! 🤓
It is great that you added "What might have bin" to the video. It really shows the effort and creativity that is needed to accomplish these builds.
Awesome build, it’s a real shame the A500 mini didn’t fit as is that would have been so cool to open it up and find a little baby Amiga inside.
I agree 👍 I also recommend nice video *Echa Ekranu* ❤
@@_Lukpery Good!
Kind of like the Russian Matryoshka nesting dolls. hehe

What a great project... Ahhhhh and that beautiful Turrican 2 music at the end! It never gets old, the mighty Chris Huelsbeck as his finest.
Really enjoyed this video! The A500 Mini is definitely keeping the Amiga name alive and well, and its great to see how many still have love for this classic computer after all these years. As for the conversion, it looks stunning, and great to see what you've done with it!
Absolutely brilliant and beautiful rebuild. Nice to see the dead ends too because it makes us feel better that it's part of the normal process when we try our own projects.
The painted case turned out really good and looks stunning with that new mechanical keyboard 👍
Thanks!!
I've been there back then, but the awe and wonder is still fresh after all these years. The Amiga is a marvel.
Wow! That looks amazing. It can only be a matter of time before an official Maxi release. Muchas gracias Amiga!
Fantastic build and it's great to see the Amiga back again. I hope your video inspires RGL to build an Amiga maxi for those of us who are Amiga fans, but are not so good at tinkering! I'd buy one!
Many didn't buy the mini waiting for the Maxi and am scared that maybe RGL got the wrong idea about demand. Anyway after hearing nothing about a Maxi for so long i decided to buy the mini and hopefully help show there is an interest.
"Son/daughter, let me tell you of the PCBWays of our people..."
Well as it has just ended i would just like to say this was so so so so so good and i so loved the colour you had on it as well and the music you had playing at the end is pure gold. Keep up the great work guys and roll on the next one, so until then take care.
Thank you for your kind words! Means a lot 👍🕹️
I hope that the manufacturer will launch a The A500 Maxi or as a limited edition The A1200 Maxi
Good video as always have a nice weekend and stay as you are
Love the colors of the Amiga and that mini usb disk thing is so cool.
Nice gray color on that case, looks almost like an Atari ST. (this comment will get me banned by both camps, Amiga *and* Atari fans)
That was one of the coolest projects I can remember ever seeing for an emulator. When you opened up Workbench, I thought "No PCB Way!"
I don't think think there is any better music on the Amiga than Turrican 2! Loved it when I was playing it as a teenager in the early 90s!
Just a quick note: hot glue is easily removed using alcohol. It completely dissolves. You don't need to heat it again.
Correct!
And if it doesn't you can add a little Cola and drink it. The alcohol that is not the glue.
Excellent build. I hope that the keyboards will become available for purchase at some point, so others can recreate this.
I needed that tip on the USB flat cable extension. I've been trying to figure out a clean way to put a Teensy 4.1 in my clockwork pi to run M8 tracker and that is perfect. Also, this build is really pretty. Good work. Thank you.
No problem!
This IT LOOKS LIKE A CITY, A LITTLE MODEL CITY quote is killing me right now... Where did I hear that before... Arrghh
Björk, an Islandic artist.
@@bgood2010 halleluja, Thank you so much
That Tri-tone colour scheme really is awesome!!! And what a fun useful project.
I wasn't lucky enough to have an Amiga 500 as a kid but i used to go to my friends house and play on his. I remember being absolutely floored by the intro to Shadow of the Beast 2 and the incredible version of Megablast for Xenon 2. Ahhh memories (seriously though if anyone reading this has never seen/heard either of these go check them out!)
thanks for a great video and an amazing project which shows what can be done look forward to more videos 👍😉
I actually just bought a old stock case to do one of these myself. Thanks for making the amazon shopping list so it is easy to find the parts needed (I thought finding that flat USB cable was going to be a pain, but not so thanks to you)
Amazing! I am blown away from your knowledge, patience, and skills. Well done, Perifractic!
Thanks so much! This was a ton of fun and I love the end result.
Awesome video. I am going to do a similar build. The system performance with the A500 mini is amazing.
Just awesome, the 1200 is one of my favourite systems of all time ❤️
Amazing build. Gives me some ideas of what to do with my poor neglected Amiga 1200.
Sweet build - loved the "bin" section 🥳. Next up: a MiSTer conversion would be the ultimate, IMHO, fully working A1200 🤩.
"Chip diapers"
Excellent build :)
This turned out really cool!
Nick, didn't realise you were a retro computer fan? Maybe you should do the odd retro computer video on your channel?
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
@@corty1980 we've done a stack of A1200 videos over the years ;)
Great jobs as always! The black and red keyboard reminds me the oric atmos I owned when I was a child…
amiga memories, still i look forward to the future
I'm amazed that you can do these projects; I'm not technical and a bit cack handed, and the result looks so professional.
Great work! That looks amazing.
Absolutely amazing job! Love your channel
Legendary video. Great job and that was the second version of narrator installed on your maxi.
nice one.
Supercool! I appreciate the effort and the final result. Cheers! :)
Great vid, can't wait for the Floopy USB to go on sale (if they do) and the new A1200 keyboards.
Very cool 👍. I did something similar years ago with a FPGA Mist and a keyboard adapter in a 1200, it’s my main Amiga until today, and it looks like a standard 1200😁👍
For me, retro gaming will always be a complete package which includes physical use of the real machines. These new emulator file fueled things are convenient but there is nothing like spending an afternoon picking out games to play on my Amiga 1000 (either of them! lol). I do need to get on with modding an external drive unit with a GOTEK so I can get some of the convenience of things like A500 mini or WHDload equipped A1200s etc. Maybe when the memories are gone I will move over to something like this :)
That's great! And it looks fantastic. Good job
All I EVER want to see Running in Workbench is SCALA MM400 running perfectly with no screen tearing. How is it that nobody ever mentions the single best app ever created on the Amiga often or even show it off? Come On people!
VERY unique build! Those ribbon USB ports look extremely useful. Excellent job!
Haha the sound effects are hilarious. I salute you for really cheering me up. Love the video!
Thank you for your kind words! Means a lot 👍🕹️
Just to say how much I enjoy your videos. I bought an A1200 for my daughter for Christmas when they first went on sale and luckily for me she didn't take to it at all. Although she loved the box, kids those days. But as i said I loved it. I later installed a hard drive inside it and an extension card and boy did it take off. Further on I took out it's innards and put it in a PC tower. Bit heath Robinson but it worked. But the biggest mistake I made was to sell it. That said i am looking at buying the new Mini500. So thanks for the review and the conversion video. And I'll keep watching so keep up the good work.
Love these builds!
That spray painting looks extremely satisfying. Nice adhesion 👌
As usual, absolutely amazing! I have been waiting for an official release of an A500 Maxi, but have been enjoying my recently purchased first ever Amiga 500! I still need to get a real joystick and mouse though as lots of the games I drop into the Gotek require a click or fire button to start. Had some other more pressing issues arise for the time being, but I'm hoping to acquire them in May ;) So keep it up, because as we know that PCB stands for Perifractic's cool builds, doesn't it?
Nice going. I'm in the process of building an Amiga tribute console inside an old Megadrive mk1 mould. I'm spraying it and have 3d printed parts I made myself to go into certain slots, although I'm taking my time with it. I tend to rush things to finish quickly and have what is nothing more than a proof of concept, as opposed to something you can be proud of
Great job! I have the C64 Maxi and enjoyed the challenge getting games to run to then not actually playing them. To each his own fun...
This is fantastic, and now I want one 😀
well, that's at least an appetizer as we wait for a real A500 Maxi to arrive - kind of hope it will model after the 1200 instead of the 500 or 600. (In my book the 1200 really was the best as it stuck with that wonderful bread bin case design.) And they really should offer this particular color scheme - could brand it as the Retro Recipes Special Edition :-)
I’d love that! And I agree the A600 is a good choice. With numpad keys remapped to gamepad.
Old Amiga user here, had an a500, a1200, cdtv, cd32. I'm also a painter by trade. If I could give you a tip, given the level your going to with this. Use a specific plastic primer, before the paint in all cases. It will provide way better adhesion than what your doing. This is almost a mandatory step. Also, once you apply the colour, put a 2k clear coat over the top of it. It's a few more steps but you end up with an almost indestructible finish.
Fantastic! Well done on all the R&D to get to the final implemented solution. As Ali G would say... respect!
Aiiii!
.. waited a long time for another proper geeky video from you. worth the wait !
Cool. I tried a more traditional format here. Just filming and voiceover. Hope you liked it.
That's a really neat mod!
I wish I can rebuild a "modern" Amiga 1200 from scratch and this is probably the closer we can be with modern parts.
I still cross my fingers for a 1200 Maxi ;)
Most likely the Maxi will be out soon.
Love this channel! Thank you for creating awesome videos!
Thanks a lot!
Nice job! Looking forward to the US release of the A500 Mini.
The A1200, I loved mine, played it to death. I wished they’d kept them going.
*This was awesome! Just need one like this to buy and not a mini!* 💪

You've confessed the name of the lord, so now you will be saved:)
Congratulations on 222 videos on this channel!
Wow thank you! 222 infinity and behind!
Beautiful! Just wonderful. I was supposed to watch the premiere, but, my best friend arrived with his sick iMac that needed is HDD replaced & magically upgraded to an SSD. So, after the unsealing of the screen & 2 OSes loaded, I was free to watch… at 11:30 PM hahaha! You built one computer, I rebuilt another!

She’s the best! People enjoyed it in the live chat too, which you can replay 😊
@@RetroRecipes I forgot you can do that! Haha. I’m silly. I’m rewatching in a few. 😂
I've got to admit, i enjoyed every second of your video and the outcome of your project didn't disappoint at all. I built what i like to call my A1200 "FrankenPi" using a R/Pi 3b + at first along with a Keyrah v2 keyboard board and a fully working A1200 keyboard (Keyrah and Keyboard i was gifted them from a really top bloke here in the UK) I've since swapped out my Pi 3b + for a Pi 4b 2gb (so i can run PiMiga v3) and i've just been gifted by my amazing wife a The A500 MINI for Christmas BUT i might now be tempted to purchase another A1200 reproduction case along with the new Keyrah v3 board and do something on the lines as you have in this video. The final outcome of yours is just outstanding.
Truly incredible 👌 this video came up on my recommendations.
Thanks!!
Nice work! I enjoy your videos so much.
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful work!
brilliant, and im so inspired to start amiga tinkering again! really well produced video, your voice could send me to sleep :)
Thank you for your kind words! Means a lot 👍🕹️
OMG the Sound of the Glue Gun 😅
Because, as we all know, PCB stands for: Perifractic Can't Byte. However, he can Megabyte.
That Bjork clip! YES!
Well that was extremely satisfying I must say. Well done!
Thanks Gary!!
If I ever get the hang of using a Atari st emulator on a Raspberry pi I plan to do something similar I have a ST case and keyboard already set up as a usb keyboard the original ST was very dead. It is neat that you can get usb adapters for some of the classic computers as it is nice to use the old keyboards sometimes.
Ha, now all you need to do is fit an A1200 motherboard in to the A500 mini case... that would be really impressive! 😉 Great video, glad you showed the bloopers too.
Ooh nice idea!
Great video, I remember talking to you on a live stream 8 months ago about this and my plan to use a Raspberry Pi in my old amiga 1200 case, god damn it you beat me at my own game!
I waited 8 months but you didn’t do it so I had to 😜
Ah, but now you can beat Perifractic at his own game by installing a full size A1200 in to an A500 mini case! 😁 He even has an empty one he could send you. That would be an interesting video. You may need a hacksaw. 😉
Beautiful, thank you.
The hot glue squirt sound hahaha
LOL "I'll never forget his shiny balls".. you naughtyfractic.
Impressive build ❤️.
seems like you have the key cap color combination im still waiting for from the kicksterter.
Great vid. Tasteful mod. I’m generally annoyed when I see a trashed case floppy bay to fit a gotek with a screen that can’t even be seen but this is all reversible, a bit of fun and I love the colour scheme
And that keyboard !!! Awesome. It’ll be on my hotly anticipated item wish list
Thanks! Indeed some day I will probably reverse it and spray the case AMIGA beige 😉
Beige hmmmm thank goodness KITT wasn’t beige
I loved the video, a good rock touch, especially throwing those things. Great discovery. I suscribe
simply amazing sir!! job well done now i would like to emulate your job well done, cheers!!
Well, we could always write a 'Perifractic' emulator to do it for you. It would probably only need a 7Mhz 68000 and half a meg of RAM. Some people would claim it's just as good as the real Perifractic! 😉
I am doing a Amiga 500 maxi
Here the a 500 mini fits perfect. And for the back I just need to cut away a little metal to get all 3 USB free.
Wish I could post am image.
Thanks for the inspiration. By the way I am also using the Amiga keyboard, and bought a little device from retro32 that can convert the plug from the Amiga to a micro usb
The Amiga must have been cold since he gave them a second "coat" of paint
Nicely done!
Nice build! I went for a Raspberry Pi4 in my Amiga 600 build with keyrah v2. Pretty tight fit, but it looks good! Added USB ports on the side, extension cables for HDMI and USBC power and have it all neatly with 3d printed backplane parts in the a600 case.
I have 'builders remorse' after having my a600 board recapped. So had to get another a600 case and keyboard on ebay to have my a600 back to working order again.
Well FRIGGIN done this is wicked cool.
Bloody brilliant Simpson!
Haha! BBS.
"PCB stands for Perifractic's Custom Builds..." It should. That's one great looking build, and looks to run like a charm. Plus, can we go wrong with a nice, long Perifractic custom build video?
Looks like a huge USB hub with all those USB ports poking out 😆 Keyboard is really nice design.
Awesome build you did Christian
I thought i was hearing things at some points, until i realized it's the 15Khz humm of the CRT.
Neat, I hope the A500 company is working on an A1200 or A600 maxi, very similar to your custom build.
There are rumors they work on a A600.
