    I hope the a500 Maxi will be faster when it comes out this year.
    Thanks for the video.

    • @mattx5499
      @mattx5499 Před měsícem

      Why faster? The power of ARM cpu inside A500 mini is just enough to emulate enhanced Amigas. It only depends on emulator requiremments. Bigger accuracy means bigger software requirements. FS-UAE works well on over 10 years old Core2Duo laptop just fine, but UAE code for x86 was updated for over 20 years and is well optimised to properly use the hardware resources. I don't know about ARM version. Emulating Amiga is less resource heavy than video shaders that emulate CRT. They require decent GPU to not slow down the emulation itself. A500 mini with fanmade software is a cool gadget, but emulating Amiga on PC gives much bigger flexibility as you can have multiple Amiga configs to play with different Amiga models. I found it quite fun with trying stock A1000 config with first version of Workbench I've never seen in real life.

    The whole point of WHDLoad is that not only do you do away with floppy loading but you can run everything on one machine no matter the hardware. I'm not sure why those games were running too fast.

    • @mattx5499
      @mattx5499 Před měsícem

      The whdload is a godsend. The loading times are much faster and it allows to run games that were uninstallable when they were released - NDOS games. Also plenty of these games are patched to remove uncompatibility issues or add better controls, trainers etc. For example Slamtilt pinball can be played with a gamepad which is super comfortable. Some games have updated controls so you can play it like some console titles with additional buttons on gamepad. I'm using MegaAgs launcher on FS-UAE and Amiga never been better. I had an Amiga 1200 with hardrive and without any expansion and plenty of whdload games were working without Fast RAM just fine, but on emulator I can have absurd amount of RAM like 256MB and multidisk games that required crazy floppy swapping are running like a charm. Also I'm using modern wireless gamepad that is far more precise and comfortable than those controllers that we had back in the day. Modern optical mouse is also a serious improvement.

    Very impressive work! I have two questions: there are a few multi disk games, such as Batman the movie, so how are disk change handled? What about game saving? If I have to “save a game to disk”, how should I do it, as I believe that the game save feature of theA500 mini will not work properly here and, should it work, it would only save the whole aminimiga session and not the single game I was playing.
    Thank you

    • @CrazyBurger
      @CrazyBurger  Před 2 lety +1

      Disk change should be easy enough by pressing F12 to access Amiberry in game then adding another disk. Saving.. I dunno.. it doesn't work as you need to add save state folders in Amiberry that are missing.. not sure if you can do that through this set up. Ami Jimmy should be able to help.. comment on his comment down below!

    • @MagikGimp
      @MagikGimp Před 2 lety +2

      WHDLoad was also designed to mitigate these problems too. Take a look in the game's folder for a ReadMe file and scripts for saves disks. Multiple game disks should just load automatically as each disk is contained in single files and are detected by their label when required.

    May I ask what is so great about WorkBench? This is not a personal question to you Mr. Burger but just a general question. Every A500 Mini review has comments like "Can it run WorkBench? If not, I don't want it" or "What's the point if it can't run WorkBench? It's not a real Amiga, then." etc, etc. I can't quite figure out the motivation behind comments like that. I understand nostalgia. I understand some being disappointed that the A500 Mini is basically just a game box. But I don't understand why anyone in 2022 would want to legitimately use an archaic OS as their daily driver. There are better modern options for painting, word processing, etc. The old Amiga OS surely can't do modern internet browsing. File sharing must be a pain. Most tasks must take a million times longer to complete. Peripherals are limited. On and on. Now I do understand very specific desires like, perhaps using a unique audio creation application and challenging oneself to work with in the confines of the system's limitations... but the people bent out of shape about the lack of WorkBench support right out of the box are way too numerous to all just be super specific geeks about one specific aspect of the old OS. And for those that wish to create modern retro games for the Amiga using the old programs, well, isn't that just bizarre? Wouldn't it be way better to just use a modern PC and a development application that supports Amiga development (but also includes all the benefits of a modern PC and modern software)? I dunno. I'm not trying to be dense, snooty or offensive. I just can't figure out the passion behind wanting to use WorkBench as a daily driver in 2022.

    • @CrazyBurger
      @CrazyBurger  Před 2 lety +3

      It'll be purely for nostalgia reasons.. I prefer the more modern front end the mini has. Simple and easy... just has a lot of whdload issues. And it's limited. Maybe the next firmware update will be a game changer. You are right though.. in current times, workbench is clunky.

      Workbench "imo" once it's been modded- hands down beats Windoze "imo" for day to day use. Sure it's not evolved as modern day gui's but imagine the ease of use of Windose along with the shear power of Linux, which is not so user friendly imo. WB is such an elegant gui, true multi tasking etc etc etc. Why would I consider going back to WB in day to day use? Imagine a world where you don't get any more forced updates, no more constant updating virus protection, at least modern day virus. Imagine a world where you don't have to worry about multicorps snooping on your data or phoning home - or having an forced hardware upgrade thrust upon you. Or overpriced PC hardware gounging, talking graphics cards here. Bought a load of miggy games and programs in the day, which I can now enjoy again. No wonder interest in retro systems and Amiga OS is on the upbeat. I was using an amiga 1200 to surf the Internet before web browers or WWeb was a thing, usin ftp, gopher, ferrets, email etc. I woulld say it's also nostalgic reasons as well. Not too concerned about compleating tasks, seen the speed that modern pi's can emulate Amiga os at? In truth my next PC build will likely be built around VM's where I run whatever O's i want and finally can say goodbye to Windows.Which imo last good version was 7 anything after that isn't consumer friendly.

      @@thefonzkiss I was makng a joke lol. As for exploder, I don't use it. The point I was trying to make to the original poster, who couldn't fathom why people today would be interested today in using an old system like Work Bench, which through different forks, is it's still being actively developed and is still useable. But if your happy still using a system which is activily data slurping your info, that installs bloatware even though you tell it not too, or every upgrade, you have to run through your privacy settings and adjust them. Then good luck to you, At least with the Amiga, I wouldn't have to worry about my procceser running at 15 -25 percent in collective background services. Can't wait to get rid of Windoze ;-)

    Why would anyone want to play Doom or Duke3d on an Amiga? Totally illogical. Use it to play actual Amiga games.
