    NOTE: I had to re-upload this 24--05-2022. Sorry if you posted a comment on the previous video. Where the audio goes out of sync with video - this happened a number of times when using my Elgato HD60 Pro. I've never experienced that with other HDMI outputs - but the sound was in sync perfectly on the PC, and on TVs tested with.
    There's a newer firmware out since filming this video :- retrogames.biz/support/thea500-mini/upgrade/

    Update to the latest firmware. There are options for kickstart and other options for added games.

    You can change (some) cpu emulation settings from gui.
    It could be a case of finding the correct settings to make for the game in the systems Options/ Expert-User Game Settings menu. You need to set the mini to be in "Expert Mode" for these options to show up. You can enable "Expert Mode" by going to "Options /Advanced settings and enable Expert mode" this will then add the "Expert-User Game Settings" to the menu in "Game Settings

    I would really like the option to just buy the shell of these machines (Amiga, C64 etc, at a much reduced price of course) to stick on a shelf as geeky ornaments. As for the actual emulation I have a Mister, real Amiga and PC based emulation. But, the baby cases are so cool 🙂

    I have 3 real amiga500s sitting in their original boxes hid away..i have ordered one of these minis in the spirit of preservation..rather than wear my original amigas out i can simply plug this amiga mini in and away we go...As time marches on the original amigas will just become harder to find....thank you very much for the review.

    I wish I had the knowledge to understand everything you said and did. I would love to have my Amiga 1200 back and play the games I did back in the day. Why can’t they just just start making the original computers again. I don’t understand all this emulator stuff. Tried a few times no can never get them working 😞

  • @TheStuffMade

    Great detailed review, thanks. I think the A500 mini was mostly designed and targeted at people who just wants to have a bit of fun and play a few old Amiga games, not really for the enthusiasts. I hope they make the A600 or A1200 maxi at some point with full workbench experience, more power, working keyboard etc. I do love the look of the A500 mini though. The authentic looking mouse and gamepad is a nice touch. And yeah, they should have included a suitable USB power supply as it needs more than the standard 500mA.

    • @dh2032
      @dh2032 Před 2 lety +1

      well he did get it load floppy disk games images, from hard disk image file, so if it doing that it might just need the wb os load in a bootable state, would liked to see what could be plugged into it, if only usb, bit, and see what would work and what doesn't work

    • @TheTurnipKing
      @TheTurnipKing Před rokem +1

      Yup, that's exactly what the Mini is. The pi 400 with Amiberry is probably a better option if you wanted something to run productivity software on.
      The mini had been opened up a little with the newer firmwares, but job one is "let people experience Amiga games with a bare minimum of faff", and it does it incredibly well.

    • @owenbevans6062
      @owenbevans6062 Před rokem

      @@TheTurnipKing The Pi 400 is considerably slower than the A500. There are a few test video's showing just that. Where the Pi shines though is being able to use Bluetooth and Wifi without breaking out another computer. The other hurdle is currently getting any Pi is almost impossible.

    What are you plugging into the usb hub, could that be affecting how it operates? Mine is working fine (as far as I know) with a cheap (came with a true blue mini) unpowered hub. I have 32gb usb stick and a wired keyboard (sr k801) plugged directly into the a500 mini, the hub has 3 the controllers plugged in (mouse, joypad, and a TheC64 joystick). So far, no issues. Only a 1A PSU too.

    • @GadgetUK164

      I use an old powered 4 port usb hub with 2 x dongles (1 for mouse & 1 for keyboard - bought separately because the original mouse which came with the kb failed), xbox controller & flash drive. All work 100%. I use a 3 amp power supply.

    Yup, failed many times trying to get 'State of the Art' to play right ?!?!

    with the keyboard and thumb drive on the onboard ports.

    Availability alone on any Amiga drops severely outside of EU, like even the A500 was hard for me to come by with other models being next to impossible in NA. Just some food for thought on your challenges, at least you get to repair some. ;)
    That's kind of what's funny about this Mini since they likely concern themselves with selling them to previous users but it's likely this will penetrate global markets and get into more regions than the original hardware.
    So happy to see a gamepad, not going to light the world on fire with that design lol but cool to see what could have been had they made it for the original launch, a controller that utilizes the full Amiga joystick pinout.

    The Super nintendo version of ZOOL is brilliant and a much more relaxed gameplay.. the Amiga Zool feels like Zool is on an LSD trip and he wont stop jumping everywhere (bad controls) HOWEVER.. I had a CD32 and Zool 2 was a much better gameplay experience with relaxed controls and very good graphics..
