I had an A1200 growing up and recently refurbished an A600. It’s a nice compact machine and it goes well with the A1200 side by side.
The new chip seemed a little washed out to me but fair play for attempting to repair the coils in the first place!
1:14:35 What about Part 4 ?
I've not got around to part 4 yet!
58:11 About 10 times faster!
0:40 Like frame for SIM card. 🙂
50:44 - What does mean BLITTER FAST ? If I good remember there was problem with Blitter - works max 16MHz.
That was an epic video Chris very interesting and great fun to watch 👍
Thanks 👍
Nice video, thanks! Always fun to see people fixing Amiga 600’s. I got one new in 1993 and I still have it, recapped and upgraded of course. Great little machine even these days.
With 3.3V CPLD, the CF card should get 3.3V power because the CF specification is for CMOS input voltage levels. 5 volt XC9572 drives to about 4 volts, which is minimum when CF card is powered at 5 volts. - CF card at 3.3 volts is specified to tolerate signals not much above 3.3 volts.
Those pins are sold for LED connection, and some of them can have loose grip on thin DIP-64 legs.
Hi Chris. Where can i get a good quality recap kit for my a500+ ? I ordered some caps on ebay and they are changx or chongx and look really crap lol. My amiga deserves better. Any links please. Cheers, im a big fan of your work and trust your opinion. Cheers
These days - not sure, other than sourcing your own parts from Digikeyor Mouser... I just tend to go with whatever looks best on eBay...
Always been a fan of the A500 myself but the A600 does seem to have a more sensible keyboard layout..the numeric keypad on the A500 was redundant in most cases....thanks for the upload.
hey Chris, I know you like your alternatives to 'Trash to Treasure', so I came up with a few: muck to magnificent junk to jewel garbage to gold grubby to gorgeous shoddy to shipshape Take you pick :)
I actually prefer my 600 over the 1200, mostly for its form factor. It takes less space and I don't use the 1200 extra features
I know what you mean! I’ve had an A600 since 1993 and I love it. Just got an A1200 about a month ago and it’s great too, as I like the AGA games and numpad for ”Dungeon Master clones”, but you can totally do 90% of the things on A600.
Great video as ever and nice repair on the original cans! Exactly what I would've done 🙂
I wonder if a pull up or pull down would make right behave.❤
I sand my screws down a little for the shrinkage of plastic.
Retrobench cap kits were superb, especially the organic polymer kits. Good save, even if it is a 600... 😋
Great work Chris,so glad you now have a case to put that awesome A600 in, and yes I think some of the CXA2075 encoders are flakey
Thanks =D
Yippppeeee sunday afternoon watching Chris.
Howdy from Canada. Great video. Appreciate. I have a question in the context of rca. I have tascam 1/4 inch 2 track tape recorder. Is it possible to replace the rca in put out puts to a xlr in pit out put ? Any thought are appreciated. Cheers mate
Yes, if you can find XLR sockets that would fit the profile on the case! The alternative is to just create some cables that adapt from RCA to XLR. With things like that I tend to measure the diameter of the holes and go compare to sockets on Digikey, Mouser, eBay etc.
I remember seeing this game in review mags. Never played it myself. Enjoyed the video.
10:40 - WHY ATARI DIDN'T do this with 68060 in 1992 ??? WHY ???
It would have pushed the price up a lot! They were trying to make it as affordable as possible at the time!
@@GadgetUK164 +25USD? +50USD? I paid 1000USD in Poland in 1993 for Falcon030 with 4MB RAM without any HDD. Even +100USD changed nothing.
6:26 - Did you speed-up the movie during test TT-RAM? How long is TT-RAM tested ?
Yes, I cut a couple of small sections out there (maybe 6 or 7 seconds cut).
5:45 - Is possible to replace splash screen to custom one ?
Most probably - yes! You would need to find the image within the custom ROM that the CT60E uses and modify it. It would be fiddly to work out the start of the image, any size info etc and then replace it with something that is no larger than the original data. There may be a checksum to change somewhere in the ROM too.
@@GadgetUK164 thx
I have the same stereo sound from earphones jack as your friend and I have the same crackling sound but only when using the 161in1 aea card, no sound glitching with my only one original snk game. You think this is the fix I need for my problem or not?
Very unlikely to be the AES or a previous mod causing that! The fact you get this problem with just the AES 161 in 1, it will likely be a fault on the 161 in 1, or a power related issue perhaps. Check out the videos I did on the 161 in 1 for the MVS, you will hear the examples of crackling sound. If you are lucky the same fix might work on the AES 161 in 1 you have, but it could just be down to corrupt ROM images on the cart or a fault in one of the CPLDs on the 161 in 1.
@@GadgetUK164 i tried to add the 22uf but nothing, if you referring to adding the voltage regulator my aes cart already have them. the psu is not the culprite i tested even with a atx pc psu and many more, i tried to remove my audio stereo wire mod and same thing, sometimes even the graphics is corrupt on the same game worked fine before. i'm returning the cart now..
@@GadgetUK164 can you link the video? i can't find it
@@GadgetUK164 can be the roms because for example neo turf master and kof95 works perfectly always
Might be worth obtaining the speech data from Atari's Paperboy. Which also used the TMS5220 for speech, like the Star Wars games.
I did play some of the samples from Paper Boy, Gauntlet and Temple of Doom whilst I was tinkering with this chip.
Is there any thing you can tell about the quality of these brands and model of these diskette drives, how high the failure rate is? Which brand / model have the biggest chance to survice, or either hadnt much problems at all?
The Panasonic and Sony drives used in the Amiga are the best. Teac having some of the worst drives imho.
@@GadgetUK164 I see also a lot of chinon drives around that are repaired and still working to day. Didnt know teac was the worst (yes i have this one in my 500+ system.)
Yeah, Chinon are OK too. They all suffer from the same problems though - needing a general service.
Nice video, thanks for the presentation! I couln't stop laughing seing you fighting with your one finger gloves 😀. Next time, try blowing in them to put the fingers the right way!
Haha, thanks! Yes - I worked out that blowing into them made it really easy just after doing the video :o)
Good work gadget, interesting video. Love this retro community. Looking forward to the reviews on different platforms of this game: )
You did a lot of fantastic work !
Thanks a lot!
25:27 - Windose ??? How Dare You !!!
Great review! Didn't know about this games. Looks inspired by Alien II, which is one of my favourite movies.
Nice. I agree if this was out in say 1993, it would be regrarded one of the must have games to own for the MD. It's so complete even releasing it in 1996 on the N64 it be one of the games that everyone needs to own or play.
I know it is still in development but hopefully it will contain more variety like weapons and more use of copperbars for more colourful backgrounds.
Great review! Really enjoyed this video 👍
21:01 the footage here fast forwards and the sound cuts out for a bit
Yeah, I did FF that and cut sound! It was reduce overall lenght of the video :o)
@@GadgetUK164 ah ok - cool! 👍
The SNES version apparently has an additional chip on the cart, which is needed to run the game. There’s no digital version/ROM file of this version unfortunately!
Thanks for putting this video together. I have just got monitised so I am just going through these hoops. Is it the same information that i need to ad for the US tax information. Thanks in advance.
I didn't need to submit any certificate or anything for the US tax treaty - just google and you will find there is a tax treaty with the US, and copying and pasting that in or selecting the relevant option was all that was required. But I did mine years back, so the US one may have changed.
@@GadgetUK164 thanks. Strange how the US one is easier.
Note: I wasn't very thorough with the teardown - you can see I worked out that the small IC wasn't a serial flash and is an MCU. The ROMs on the N64 are accessed in a serial way, and that IC is doing it I am sure! *It doesn't need level translation in the same way other systems might do, the N64 uses 3.3v...* The 74 series on there is going to be used to "hold" blocks of data to be serially pushed across to the N64, and one chip to bank switch. The 5 pin device wont be a regulator, its 74 series (a single logic gate probably, possibly a schmitt buffer). Correction: Stephen helped work out the issue with graphics and code getting messed up. That silicone gun 🤣
As long as the silicon does not smell like vinegar it should be safe to use on electronics. The vinegar smelling ones off gas fumes that will attack the copper traces on the PCB!
I always got told to put the plug in your pocket to ensure you're not working on live equipment.
Got to love the Chongy brand caps
PS: You can buy Xeno Crisis for the N64 and SNES (GBA is any day now...) - shop.bitmapbureau.com/collections/all It is also available for the Megadrive, Neo Geo, Dreamcast, and Gamecube, as well as on other systems like Switch / PC / XBOX / PS4 / PS5
Think I'd have left the Panasonic cap in tbh, it's likely they only put in a 47uF in in the first place because it was the same price or cheaper than the 33... Chong caps, lol, it should be OK as its a low-stress part of the circuit but I'd put money on it causing a failure again quicker than the proper one!
HELLO!
Absolute best. I've got the 68030 version, so definite envy for this one.
