  • All modern 911s that don't fall into the "GT" or "Turbo" categories are often forgotten about in serious Porsche discussions, simply because they're part of the Carrera lineup. The new 992 GTS proved to me today that the best all-season, four-seater daily driver money can buy was sitting in front of us the whole time. Enjoy.

Great Porsche in a cool colour. The body is not actually the “Turbo body”. All 992s have the wider body shell as a basis used previously and there isn’t a true “narrow body”. The turbo body got even wider rear fender flairs. The Sport Classic uses the turbo body shell but they fabricated new rear fenders that are the same as the turbo without the air intake holes.

Not so long ago i tried out a 992 carrera 4s (i assume it's very close in terms of feeling to the gts ,maybe a little bit softer ) . This was my 1st 911 eyperience. It was surprisingly fast for 450hp( i have driven a Taycan turbo before and it wasn't that much faster for 680 hp). I didn't feel the need for more power. It was plenty fast for me. At the first few corners it was understeery but after the front got some temp it was AWESOME ! This 992 is soo easy to handle it gives you confidence. Even if you push the car over the limit it's very forgiving and playful (It's not a very sharp hardcore sportscar though but it's a perfect allrounder) . The engine is also a masterpiece. It's not very powerful under 3k rpms but after it's insane and the throttle reaction is crazy good for a turbo engine. At high rpms it feels like an NA engine(and sounds). I can understand now the hype for the 911. This car deserves it without a doubt!

$20k more for 30hp and 30 lb ft of torque more than a C4S is just silly. Besides those two things they're the same exact car. In fact, mechanically they ARE the same car. Get the C4S then put on a stage 1 tune from m-engineering and you're at about 500hp and 450 lb ft of torque and it only cost you $2500. Get an aftermarket exhaust for around $6-10k and then you can do a stage 2 tune and you're above Turbo numbers with 600 hp and 620nm of torque.

Options of coupe/sedan (and wagon outside of North America), AWD/RWD, manual/auto, and up to 503hp from a twin turbo inline 6. When you consider that they start at ~$70k and top out at just over $100k, it’s a legit offering.🤷🏾‍♂️
Edit: I keep getting pinged so I’ll reiterate that in his quick list he mentions: GTR, Audi R8, AMG GT, and Vantage. Had he stopped there, I wouldn’t have mentioned the G8X chassis since those are all strict sports cars. But once the Continental, LC500, and M8 were tossed in the mix, all of which are strict GT cars with nothing close to the cornering/lateral performance envelope of a 911… the G8X just made sense as an alternative to me.

As nice as these cars are, they are not worth the price of admission. This is especially true in recent years. If you're purchasing with pocket change then it likely matters not, but if you are a well healed individual that still needs to work within the confines of some sort of financial reality, the price/value equation is not there any more. These cars are fast becoming status symbols more than anything else. Unfortunately. They were always status symbols to some degree, of course, but this is on a whole other level now (and in a very short period of time).
The main aspect that is making this be the case is the fact that Porsche is intentionally creating artificial demand/supply in their favour by intentionally limiting production, increasing pricing, etc...If this is what works best for them from a business perspective then I guess it makes sense. Hard to argue with from that angle. As a car enthusiast that doesn't help me though...lol

What have you driven in the line up exactly? I have a 991.2 GTS, and I find it twitchy, feeling every damn pebble in the road, and feeling connected to it such as I would on a sport bike. I drove a 991.2 GTRS on a race track and found it similar, but a LOT more feel and stiffness (a lot more noise and loads of top end.) I drove my buddie's 991.1 and it's just like my car, but with way less torque, more top end noise, but the chassis felt similar. My other buddy has a 997 C2S, and it drives similar, but doesn't feel nearly as tight and precise as the 991.1 or 991.2. I would say that the soul of the iconic car is the shape, engine position, and most importantly, it is always at the top of the class, with better performance characteristics as previous generations. Now, I drove an R8 V10+ (2021 I believe) and that car has no soul, no road feel, precision, but like you are on a pillow, it's the opposite of twitchy. Anyway, I wanted to challenge the notion that these have gotten away from the "soul of the iconic car." These cars drive like nothing else and that's what makes them really special - the new cars still hold that statement, so until a Porsche comes out and fanatics say, "it doesn't drive like a Porsche," then I think it has a soul, a very old soul at that.

@@jedediahsmart569 I've pretty much driven all Porsche from the 964 to 991 Turbo S, GT3, GT3RS on the track.
My contention is with the size of the chassis and the overall body size of the car and the way it behaves while you're driving. Although the newer generations tend to be more refined and precise that, however, is not what I'm looking for as it compares to the older models as far as the feel and the sensibility of the older generations. The newer generations tend to be more high-tech which takes away from the manual element of driving. The higher technology seems to be taking more of the burden of the track whereas the older generation had more of a connection with your driving and how you want to drive. I guess what I mean to say is that the older generation are more analog and with much less technology, sort of like the raw machine and the human rather than the high-tech AI designed machine to handle a lot of the hurdles of driving.
