I had a 991T and replaced it by a 991 GT3 Touring. Why ? Because the T gave me so much fun, not only in driving it but also in terms of Porsche community, that I thought it would be worth the investment to step up to a GT3T. I am very happy with the Touring and would not want to go back to a T, but if I needed to for whatever reason I would still be very happy with the T. Two notes : I daily drive the GT3 also in the city, not a problem of being to hard suspension, not at all. I learned that the manual gives more pleasure (my T was automatic). My plan is to keep the GT3 Touring forever and put 400.000 km on it in the next 20 year

The GT3 Touring in the UK is virtually unobtainable unless you are a very very “special” customer or prepared to pay way over the odds on the used car market.

yes that's a bad thing. Here in Belgium we can of course tap into the german, dutch and so on cars that come on the market. Nevertheless in the used market there are often only about 15 cars available in all of europe...

992 GTS lightweight package owner here. I haven’t driven the 992 T or GT3 so I do not know what I am
missing but, what I love about my GTS is it really likes to be driven hard. It just never seems phased by anything I ask it do. I’ve spent time in 992 GTS on the track and the street and I find it extremely enjoyable in both situations. I enjoy a car that isn’t so glued down that I can’t get it a little loose at less than race car speeds. I’ve had cars that had such a high grip threshold that they weren’t really fun to drive on the street. I imagine I’d really enjoy the T for day to day. The GT3 on the track. I feel like the GTS is my Goldilocks car.

    • @a004
      @a004 Před 2 měsíci +2

@@radans99 you do notice the increased road noise. It's not a big deal for me, especially when it allows you to hear the engine more. But could it be an issue on a long road trip? Maybe. I have still yet to test that out. But overall it's not a deal breaker or major issue for me.
What is a major issue for me is the back up camera, it absolutely sucks. So make sure you spend the extra money on the birds eye view 360 cam.
Also the stock sound system is a joke. I don't listen to music but if you do, you have to upgrade to the bose. The stock is unbearable.

Fascinating ! If I could (in my dreams), I’d choose the three. The Carrera T because it’s the purest and probably the closest to the spirit of its ancestors ; the GTS which I drive regularly (in 4WD configuration), appreciate and enjoy very much ; the GT3 Touring for its elegant yet powerful looks and of course the fabulous 4.0 aspirated flat-6, while aware that the car is not a practical daily driver on poor roads. But now that the 911 S/T has been unveiled, I think that despite the inconveniences (and the price), this one would be my ultimate choice (in my dreams 😄).

Amazing video! It's so refreshing to watch a very well made car review in the old-school style again that I'm missing more and more as CZcams videos keep changing and moving away from the traditional format. I kind of agree with this verdict, I think the Carrera T offers the "affordable thrills" (affordable by supercar standards) that the old, bare-bones RWD Carreras used to provide, which the GT3 Touring does not because it's got so expensive and hard to acquire for one thing, and it appears too aggressive for road use. However, I don't like that it's widebody now since Porsche just canned the narrow body 911s. I really think the T would've been even better if they had kept it a narrow body.

@@ss-mw9dj Well, fair question although I don't think it's really a matter of "better" but rather, what flavor suits your use case and desires. For me I have had G50 Carreras for decades and love the visceral experience yet is a very drivable car on the street - it's just fun. I wanted that in a modern Porsche and honestly the T is that and more. The thinner glass, reduced noise insulation, and lighter weight delivers that. Despite it having the "small engine" it's still faster than anyone can truly use on the street. (I live at the base of HWY1 in California). The T also has PASM with fully adjustable suspension and sits 10mm lower than the GTS. To my knowledge, sprung the same as the GTS. And yes... it's cheaper - to buy, to maintain (think brakes, etc), to register, etc. Again... ultimately it's a personal choice 👍

Really good review and I’m not surprised with the verdict. I came from a Jaguar F Type R to a 991.2 Carrera and never felt like I was missing out on pace, power or fun (only noise!). Even then the basic 911 is a real peach.
If I’m just a tiny bit critical of this review, there’s zero feedback about how the cars brake and how tractable they are out of corners. Nor how with that, they can carry momentum and difference between keeping the NA on the boil with its higher powerband versus the different challenge you face with the less responsive 3.0 TT.
All in all, a really enjoyable review though.

Haven’t driven the 992 gt3 for comparison- but from what I have heard including a performance driver instructor who has owned both the 991.2 is more street compliant- he also said his lap times (and this guy is good) are about the same in both cars - seems to me the 991.2 gt3 is the best of both worlds..?

Well said. Yes, the GT3 is a halo car as far as being a bullet-proof track weapon, and the Touring edition is great for those who don't want to advertise, but then it's not really a good touring car anyway..
I suppose the rarity is also what appeals to wealthy consumers, just as the new S/T is the stealth GT3 RS..
But as an actual car that most of us would enjoy driving? I might go for the GTS if I were looking for a turbo model, but I also like the Carrera S which has more than enough power and has the luxury/daily driver thing nailed.
I just got a 718 Spyder, which, so far (it's not yet broken in) is just about perfect IMO. I wouldn't want a stiffer-riding car for just enjoying on the road, I found the GT3 too harsh on anything but great road surfaces.
Those are nuances that aren't talked about much on youtube videos, where massive hp and ridiculous 1/4 mile times/drag races dominate.

Good review but when you talk about price you have to talk about depreciation. The best yet touring is the 991.2 GT3 touring not the 992 as the 991.2 GT3 touring is much more supple (in fact spring rates are about 50% less). My own reality check and what I have done since the 997 series is go for the RS for hardcore sports car and GTS for daily. In fact, probably the best all rounder is the 718 (982) 4L NA Cayman GTS - its really great at everything and still has a high revving NA engine. Never really warmed to the T and they tend to get flicked on fairly quickly (I have driven both 991 and 992 variants and would say good but not memorable).
