I mean, it makes sense. Most people think and speak to themselves in their first language. Sign languages are languages. He learned to sign before he learned how to speak, so he just thinks in sign. Even still, most hearing people think in a similar way to some degree. When I think about smiling, I don’t think the words “Upturned lip corners and raised cheeks narrowing the eyes,” I think of how the the muscles in my face feel when I smile. It’s a MUCH more rudimentary version of thinking in sign, but it’s the same concept. The movements and feeling of movement carry the meaning instead of sounds carrying the meaning.
I watched a documentary on cochlear ear implants in my biomedical sciences class and they genuinely did that before and after they got the ear implant. Their ears were too sensitive and they actually preferred vibration music over what they became able to hear
Yep, I can’t hear off the air pods, my husband didn’t realize how deaf I was, but I just sat there waiting for the music. He’s like are you serious, me reading his lips, said serious about what, he said you can’t hear that, I said no, I’m still waiting for it. He said I have it way pass the loudness I normally have it at, I said oh, I guess I’m deafer then I thought I was. 😅
I do go have my ears checked. Being deaf and/or hard of hearing, has been apart of my life, since getting seriously ill, at the age of 3. So I have the help of a hearing aid. I do like listening to music, but the air pods are not powerful enough for me to hear off of them. But I would not know that if I didn’t try them out.
Yes, I was born with my hearing, I got deadly ill by 3 with spinal meningitis. Soo sick the drs told my parents to plan my funeral, because I wasn’t coming back home. The only options my parents were given is I come out ok, I become mentally retardant or I be dead. I went some time with a 102* temp, that’s probably were I lost my hearing. Drs told my parents they had no explanations as to how I made it, since my spinal cap readings were off the charts. So they thought everything was fine. It wasn’t till later that my oldest brother realized I wasn’t hearing. He was behind me calling my name and I wasn’t responding.
I’m 22, my girlfriend is 23. She’s deaf, she says a lot that she likes bands like nickenlback, guns and roses, three days Grace, and a few others because it’s a lot of vibration. She enjoys that aspect so I usually let her have that on. I like nickel back and three days grace too so I don’t mind.

Dude. I be blasting my music as loud as i can because it hits the feels. We gotta get this guy some bass to feel, no cochlear just feel it in the chest
@@Tensentities… Actually you don’t feel “almost half” of the sound you hear, you can feel the base, sure. However the vast, *vast* majority is what you feel.
I have extremely sensitive hearing so I have a few different things to wear when going to something loud. Like my school plays drums in the hallways for this thing called “send offs” to wish people luck on some school related thing that’s important. So I put my noise canceling headphones on and my watch is like “it’s too loud” and I’m like “I know but I literally can’t go anywhere else”

I'm pretty sure he has a cochlear implant, which allows him to hear by sending the signals direly to his brain. Do while he is still technically deaf, he can also hear when he wants to with the implant, as it is a two piece device that magnetically attaches to the outside of the skull
fair point, fair point, however in driving school at least over here we learn not to play loud music all the time as it can disorient the blind and disrupt other people in surrounding areas
That reminded me about a time we were taking an uber to a party and the driver was deaf, and he was playing different remixes of explosion with bass turned to max, couldn't have hit the vibe better
That moment where you turn it up loud when you're jamming on your way home, but the next day you forgot to turn the radio down and you Jumpscare yourself
Im genuinely curious does the object he have connected to his head help him hear again and if it does how does it work if its wrap around his ear and not physically inside his ears
google Cochlear implants - "A cochlear implant is a small, complex electronic device that can help to provide a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard-of-hearing"
It’s called a hearing aid, and watch a video on how hearing aids work and you’ll learn something instead of listening to someone lie to you in a comment
It’s called a cochlear implant. It picks up the sound and transfers it to a magnet/hearing processor inside his head that then transmits the electrical signals to the auditory nerve.
there is a small receiver they implant under the skin that goes to the nerve that can help give sensation of sound. ive seen children with it - its crazy tech
Those are the exact cochlear I use! This is accurate, I like how I’m blasting music and apple is like, TURN THAT DOWN! But in reality, being deaf actually makes your ears never hurt to loudest noises even with cochlears
Can you explain a bit about how it feels when that happens? Like is it just a vibration or can you hear the sound in, for lack of a better word, "higher quality"?
I’ve heard that deaf people like music with a lot of heavy bass and drums because they can feel the vibrations and i’ve always found that so fascinating like just how different is their personal experience of music to my own

That's what your voice does, it's so unique, not even the accent (which is still lovely) but like the way your voice sounds is amazing and I hope you know that
It's awesome, he even talks to himself in asl.
I have a friend that is an interpreter. When she speaks, she signs, even to us hearing friends.
I knew a deaf guy once. I wrote on a whiteboard to speak to him and he would sign as he read it
I mean, it makes sense. Most people think and speak to themselves in their first language. Sign languages are languages. He learned to sign before he learned how to speak, so he just thinks in sign.
