How to fix Xbox 360 disc tray automatically opening. (SIMPLE!!!)

- The tech store wanted $80 to fix my xbox. I thought that was a rip off because it couldn't be too hard to fix. I am basically computer illiterate and by no means a gamer. I was able to take apart and fix the xbox very easily, so you can too. Here is a short video explaining what the problem was with my xbox (the common problem when the drive automatically opens) and how I went about fixing it.
Please like this video so other people experiencing the same problem can fix the xbox themselves instead of getting ripped off by the tech stores! - Hry
Thank you. This was exactly what was wrong with our child's Xbox 360. After watching other YT videos, I was hoping it wouldn't be this, because I didn't want to take the box apart, but I lifted the Xbox and gently rolled it side to side and upside down and I could hear the tiny piece lose inside. I searched the other YT for taking the Xbox apart to get to the disc drawer and you were spot on -- the little black square was loose inside. I had a gel superglue and using tweezers, was able to gently put glue on the two little stubs sticking out of the bottom of the tiny piece (careful not to put too much -- only to hold it enough until I got the switch put back in). After placing the switch in firmly, I put a bit of superglue on the top of both sides to secure it in (the top of the piece that was broken and the other side that is for holding the switch in place). Tested it and it worked beautifully!
Putting the Xbox together, I had to reposition the foam/sticker around the drawer opening (as it almost got stuck in the drawer slide area). But this was absolutely the problem and I am now super mom to my boys, 16 y.o. and 11 y.o. who immediately argued which would be using Lazarus (the Xbox 360 that sat in the corner for over a year, because the drawer wouldn't stay shut). Naturally, the teen was more manipulative to swindle the Xbox into his room with the lil guy's consent (it belongs to the 11 y.o.).
I am a gamer and computer literate, but you just made me look like a pro. Lol! Thanks again! You are awesome!

I found the plastic piece when I took mine apart but I couldn't figure out where it broke off from. Now I think I know, I'm going to look at it again and hopefully that was the problem. Thanks for the upload!

You are amazing! I was about to throw away the whole Xbox. Mine wasn't broke but it had popped out so all I had to do was just snap it back in. Bingo.
I checked that and it wasn't broken but is still not working. Any ideas?
I had this issue and I set it up vertical with the button on top, opposite side of the floor. No taking apart nothing. Disc tray fine now.

Thanks mate, you saved my nerves, I tried this on Xbox 360 FAT Jasper, just hot glue it on both corners where those swtiches are (like two metals touching each other at the other side). Maybe this helps someone too. Thanks legend.
This is exactly what my fucking Xbox is doing
I aggressively wiggled the front of the tray and it has been working so far.
I just took a few pieces of hit it a couple times pluged it back up and it worked as good as new.

My problem is I have an Xbox one and I missed older cods and I sold my games so I went and bought MW2 and when I close the tray it keeps opening
you know what my cousin did he took the face plate off unplugged it and slammed it back in and it worked

Cameron Stella Where did you put the switch because I didn't have the piece? There should be a little slot for Switch to fit in. To tell you the truth, I just got the Xbox 360 Slim from my friend because be didn't want it because of this reason. He kept the power and AV cords for "Tournaments" and left me the broken Xbox. And question: Does your power button flash and the disk drive open after you close it?
Spyker yes it does but I'm going to just buy a new disk drive because while putting it back in I didn't realize how fragile it is and kind of broke it oops

Read your comments heard that it was still broken did you ever get it fixed if not did you go to GameStop to get a Diagnostics they usually do that part for free

+Riley Croucher It didnt work after i super-glued it so I had to perform surgery on my Xbox. I switched the entire disc drive. I got it for $40 on Amazon. It seemed hard to do as I was watching a video on how to switch them because it involves soldering but its super easy!

Mines wont open by touching the sensor to open the disc tray. But with the controller it opens and closrs just fine. Why then it wont open when i touch the censor?? Any idea anyone..
When you open it up (the console [I.e the faceplate]) there is a blue circuit ribbon, attach the ribbon to the port by the power button. Put it all back together and it should work.

I hate the slim. always have weird dvd drive issue. I own 4 jasper and they are rock solid. best 360 imo

Insert a small sized fish firmly into the tray, proceed to close the tray and do a slight dance, worked for me good luck my slippery friend!
