I found a passion in that year so didn’t sign up but I still get calls to this DAY. “You like this high school class? You can do it in the military! You like your college major? Join the reserves! You like your job? Consider the reserves or a similar civilian job in the military!”

Each one had not come out yet but I knew they were gay and lo and behold, once they leave the service, they come out as gay. Still friends with all 3 of them to this day. All great guys and actually were great at their jobs. People get butthurt about this stuff, but usually they do their job just as well or at least average at their jobs. The one I was closest friends with was actually a beast, maxed the PT test every time and commissioned easily as an officer. Not sure why I mentioned this, but I think I was trying to prove a point and my ADHD kicked in lmao sorry

Mental health plummeted so bad that right now that suicide marks somewhere around 15-20% of all deaths in the teens/youth beaten only by murder and literal fatal accidents. That's right, suicide is top 3. And it's on the rise. A study found that reports of death of despair which is to say suicide is up by 289% and that it affects people younger than 40 significantly/disproportionately more, we have seen multiple studies coming to an result of a continuously increasing trend of mental health getting worse. Maybe this is just my faulty interpretation at play, but seeing the trends and numbers it appears to me that this is a systemic issue not a people issue.
Now does that mean bullies are to blame? Were days of old the best? Not necessarily. Correlation doesn't necessarily mean causation. An population consisting of primarily youth that grows up in more toxic family structures that ends up creating even more aggressive and worse bullies in order to cope with their reality than ever before which in turn plummet mental health and create future bullies and toxic behaviours in their victims is not at all a far fetched idea.
And so even if we have worse bullies, especially when we see the rising trends of suicide, mental illness and most importantly use of violence and aggression. Bullies aren't just letting you go after dipping your head in the toilet, they will stop at nothing until you feel just as sad and miserable as they are, and since the bullies are getting more bullied than ever before you can imagine how bad that is. After all bullies kill themselves too when they just had too much for their bad coping mechanism to handle. Despite it all it's not fair to say that all those suicides and decline of mental health is because of them alone, I personally am becoming more increasingly convinced they are a factor in it but not the whole problem itself.
It's not that bullies are the root of the evil, there's many factors such as socio economic instability, social media and emergent technology that heightened stress, a lack of stability in the family structure, culture and ever more things. The issue is that there is a feedback loop, of more stress and miserable people taking out their frustration on others which in turn creates more stressed and miserable people which then go on to do the same. If bullies were truly less effective at hurting others and there were less of them we would expect to see a break out of this bad cycle, unfortunately that is the exact opposite of what is being observed. Bullies are in fact more hurtful than ever and there's more of them than ever.
Usually bullies are broken people that they themselves got hurt or abused at some point, in a lot of cases bullying is nothing more than a maladaptive coping and defensive behaviour "If I bully everyone, no one gets to bully me ever again", it's a narcissistic trait that relies on putting others down in order to feel superior as they have in fact no self confidence in themselves as people, and I mean of course they don't when who knows what horrors they themselves went through, it's textbook case in psychology.
Realistically removing bullies would mean a happier population, not just for their potential victims but for the bullies too who are often abused themselves, a world where people don't feel the need to bully others is a healthier and happier world. We're seeing the complete inverse of that unfortunately, we're seeing a increase in bullying and it is taken to such extremes that people kill themselves or hurt themselves or engage in a multitude of other bad behaviours to cope.
For these reasons I make the polar opposite claim to yours, removing bullies, healing and helping them is a 100% desirable outcome, but unfortunately at a systemic level this isn't being achieved so far, we now have even worse bullies than ever before in terms of schooling and youth social structures.

I remember when I went to get tested for the army. I wear glasses now, but didn't then, even though I needed them. Plus I have tinnitus. So I massively bombed both the seeing and hearing tests.

They had one character, who was trying to get out of the army, by pleading insanity, and showing that insanity by wearing dresses. Obviously he wasn't kicked out, and served his time.
