That is, of course, until you come across a level that’s so anxiety-inducing that you’re forced to drink your own body weight in camomile tea straight afterwards. The suicide mission was, and still is, outstanding. But stress inducing? Nah.
Literally just gotta play the game enough so you can make upgrades and do the loyalty missions. I loved it haha
It was epic but not hard, I think letting one character die makes it more epic. I had Garrus and Jack for the final part of that and Jack didn't make it. Only one of the team not too but it was better that way.
I found the Phantom Express level to be one of the easiest in the game; it's all about knowing where the cart should be.

Agreed. I had a lot of difficulty in a lot of the levels but Phantom Express was def not one of them
@@timothygraham4304 You don't know anything going in; the point is that you die to each boss repeatedly until you figure out how to beat it. The four stages of this boss all have recognizable patterns that are easy to figure out (the fourth is probably the most challenging, but even then, not really) and avoid and moving the cart is a fairly straightforward mechanic. If it were the final boss on the second island, its challenge would be appropriate. However, as the third from last boss of the game, it's a pushover.
The meteor shooting part in dead space 1 was pretty stressful to me because It wasn't fun at all and I didn't want to do it again. But I kept having to do it again and again.
You forgot about the Lava Race level in Conker's Bad Fur Day! That was honestly the closest thing I've ever experienced to actual TORTURE while playing a video game!
I hate that level with a burning passion. (No pun intended). I used the 99 life cheat and lost almost half of my lives.
@@zeldamaniac14 I feel your pain. It took me a total of literally 6 hours to beat that level, no joke! I can't even remember how many times I've died and gotten a game over screen within that time.
BTW I played the Conker Live & Reloaded remake on Xbox360, and I've heard the lava race level isn't as hard in the remake as it is in the original N64 version. IDK if that's true or not, but if it is, then oh god it would probably kill me.

After I finally beat it in the Xbox version, my thumb was actually twitching/moving around on its own uncontrollably as if it was still operating the joystick. That didn't seem normal to me.
@@Supercatandrewman It took me around 5 to 7 hours. It was broken into two days. 4 for day one, 3 for day 2.
For me the most stress inducing level of any game I've ever played is the section in SOMA where you have to walk on the bottom of the ocean... in the dark... with monster fish things swimming around you. 😨
As someone who is irrationally terrified of dark water, even when I know there is nothing there, that part of the game almost stopped me from finishing it. I had to mute the volume, turn up the brightness and keep my head down just to get through it. Thankfully on my run through I missed the angler fish. That might have killed me lol.
I would put the Casino level in Cuphead over the train level. It had multiple mini boss fights with RNG plus the main boss fight, and if you die once you have to start the gauntlet over again. The train level just has a platform you have to keep and eye out for
I'd put the battle against Dr. Kahl's Robot in its place; by the twentieth retry I almost sent the controller through a window...
As somebody who has acrophobia, the level in one of the Tomb Raider games where you're outside a high-rise building having to leap from suspended construction platforms was almost impossible for me to finish.

I didn’t mind the water level that much, honestly. I could beat it when I was young with little problems.

@@tyvulpintaur2732 right? I’ve never understood the reputation that level has. I could never beat the game, but the first few levels, including the water level, weren’t all that difficult.

It is at first but I actually enjoy the water level. I just doesn't compare to the stupid difficulty of the battletoades stage. Of all of them I think that's the one that's the most irritating I thought there was actually more than one of those stages where you have to use the bike am I wrong.
I remember playing Dead Space and my friend and I took turns playing it. He ended up with the scene with the needle and handed me the controller because he was to nervous and didn't want to see what happened if you failed. I failed on purpose and when the needle stabbed me, he screamed and said he couldn't watch anymore. ^_^
The entirety of Alien Isolation count, since one of the game's only levels will still haunt me to this day.

My big stress one if fighting the werewolf in Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines.
I think the death temple section of the Sleeping Dogs should be on the list. You are being forced to fight your new friends to the death while a spike lined ceiling lowers, and the time limit is very strict.

There is a level that puts many of these to shame. That is the water pipes from Eco The Dolphin on the Dreamcast. That level is the stuff of nightmares. As you slowly make your way up a huge spiral of water floating in the air you have to make jumps from gaps in the water to the next section of water. The jumps can be frustrating at times and the camera doesn't always help. One small mistake and it's all the way back down to the bottom to start it all over. Sometimes you get lucky and fall back in the water but the level is huge and lasts quite awhile. Getting nearly up to the top knowing that another jump could send you back down is incredibly stressful. You really have to experience it to feel the pain. It was a good game back in 2000 but that almost killed it for me.

@@bobsiddoway Yes. It was pretty cool in spite of the issues. It's a shame Sega never improved it and made another one. It has really tense parts where you were making sure you had enough air while exploring underwater as well.

Cold war, the part where your being talked through a situation while under hypnosis, I got a feeling of stress because of what the screen was doing.
I got a gold time trial relic for Stormy Ascent on PS4, the trophy you get for it was a 0.3% ultra rare when I did it
Literally any time I’ve ever played FIFA comes to mind.
What's crazy is that the turbo tunnel isn't even the hardest or most stress inducing level in Battletoads. There's at least a couple of levels later on in the game that are far far worse for your blood pressure 😂
Exactly, that damn rat race level takes the cake when it comes to most stressful Battletoads level. By god, the music in those sections is distilled audible stress.

Having been watching a lot of these videos recently, I have noticed that Peter really likes to say Smorgasbord
Thank God you didn't turn the volume up on that baby monster in RE Village. The noise that thing makes is equally as frightening as its appearance, maybe more so. And getting swallowed by that thing if it catches you, I couldn't bear to watch it again after seeing it just that first time. After that, if I knew I messed up and that I was done for, IIRC, I would immediately reload. I just couldn't go through that trauma again.
The secret ruins in FFXV for the Black Hood is just brutal.

Dead space 2 is no 1 on my list, with evil within close after and on 3rd place I would say the bridge-level in Crash Bandicoot (before I knew i could walk the ropes i got really frustrated :-D ).
Great list. Fun memories. Would have maybe included the Dam from Ninja Turtles. But yeah, the fetus chase in the basement was not comfortable, 😅😅😅

Dark Bramble wasn't very stress inducing, it's basically just a puzzle level. What's definitely missing here is the hotel escape sequence from Dark Corners of the Earth.
Battle toads is the reason why I haven't played a video game in 15 years!
If you think the Turbo Tunnel is bad you should try Clinger Winger and Volkmire's Inferno.
Turbo Tunnel isn't the most difficult stage of Battletoads NES. It's just the most difficult level that most players were able to get to.
I appreciate that you had the eyeball part in Dead Space 2 in this list, but honestly the more stressful part of that game was the very end, where that guy kept respawning and you didn't have a single moment of peace. It forced me to quit the game. I couldn't kill him enough times.
I have pretty much become immune to the Dead space one simply because of how many times I replayed the game and saw(lol!) that one death from other youtube videos.
Definitely prefer stressing myself out more versus unwinding.

dead space 2, eye surgery? that's literally a brief moment, not a level. the reanimator-kineses-bedroom from the first should have made the cut.

Stormy Ascent was irritating, but nothing had me howling in terror and frustration more than The High Road. Egad, how I hate that level.

The thing with dark bramble is that in the end game you have to go through it after disabling the ash twin project. So unlike other situations where if you die the time loop resets, if you are eaten in dark bramble during this phase while the ash twin project is down, then it's game over for good.

Im 42 years old. I used to play battletoads when it came out 30 years ago. Every few years I like to go back to it and after a while my muscle memory kicks in and I breeze trough the first 6 or 7 levels of the game.
For me, the most stressful lvl in cuphead was always the mad scientist lvl.
EA Fight night champion, story mode last fight Isaac Frost...
The makers of Battletoads intentionally made the game frustratingly hard because they wanted players to be unable to beat the game by renting it and having to buy it instead. This backfired horribly. The extreme difficulty followed by the terribly lame ending made players never play it again, return it to the store demanding a refund and even destroy the game cartridge out of anger.
I thought the Queen Honeybee from Cuphead was the hardest

I had that Sonic "you're about to drown" music as my phone's alarm once. I had to change it because it kept scaring the shit out of me.
Turbo Tunnel was overrated. I got past it quickly enough. Snake Pit on the other hand... uuuuuuuurgh. Those darn spikes. Those darn snakes.
