Remove Bios Password - HP UEFI Laptops (ProBook, EliteBook, ZBook)

  • This is how you remove the bios password if you don't know it.
This should work on most if not all ProBook, EliteBook, ZBook models.
HP used to generate and provide a unique SMC.bin file that you could put on a USB and use to remove the password, but they no longer do this and tell you to go buy a new laptop and say they cannot help you.

OMG..dude. I've been doing IT for a long time. You blew my mind with this. Since I'm a nerd I found this fascinating, but aside from that I never thought to do something like this. Where did you even acquire the knowledge to flash the BIOS chip from?
Also, it was a bit disappointing that you seemed to skim over the area where you put the pads down for re-soldering the chip on the board. Even a layman knowing about flux can de-solder a chip, but re-soldering is where having skill comes in. Having a demonstration would have really helped since I think anybody even considering doing this would probably not be in your part of town to have you do it.

Successfully did this to a ZBook 15 G2 using the SPI interface on a Raspberry Pi and flashtool! Searching for 'SPI EEPROM Dump with raspberry pi flashtool' should dig up instructions.
Notes: Could not do it with the chip on the board (via soldered wires), had to desolder and remove the chip and connect to the Pi directly. Obviously something on the motherboard corrupts the SPI signals.
The address was different in my hex file. Found the right address by searching for 00 42 00 49 00 4F 00 53 00 20 00 41 00 64 00 6D 00 69 00 6E 00 69 00 73. The dot before the U is actually AA not 00 and this did not show up as a dot in HxD (the editor I use). So instead of aiming for a dot, a better description is: "zero everything up to the pattern AA 55 7F 00".
Reflashed, resoldered and got straight into BIOS! Thankyou for the video!

That worked on laptops like pre 2005 or so. Newer systems now have non volatile memory that doesn’t need a battery to retain settings. So only thing removing a battery does is lose time.
