      No. Stop consuming their product.
      Back to the story:
      I am glad to hear the professor say this, I thought I was loosing my marbles.
      I have modified the way I consume media. I treat every article like advertising. I used to get caught out, early 2000’s, by talkback radio style advertising where adverts were styled as an interview.
      Before I read any article on anything I have a conversation with myself, “This will reflect what the writer’s bias.”
      Stuff and MSN have made it easy for us. They have signed a charter that they support some ideologies and oppose others and debate will not move their dial on their TRUTH. After-all “97% of scientists” agree with them.
      ESG has resulted in the biggest transfer of wealth ….. to the wealthy on the basis that those in need will benefit. Unfortunately, the wealth transfer was not efficient and concentrated more wealth in the hands of the already wealthy. Mainstream media continues to be fans.

    I have definitely noticed the MSM have been extremely biased with their reporting for a long time, making it almost impossible to watch anymore. The trouble is some people do still watch it, and I believe it is influencing this divisiveness in NZ that is completely wrong and unnecessary. It is giving a very loud and ugly voice to radical and violent opinions, and making it seem that kind of rhetoric is not only the norm but the "right" opinion - and if you disagree you have the "wrong" opinion. I think at the heart of it, it must be the kinds of people they are employing. I imagine a more balanced individual, or someone who supported National, Act or NZ First wouldn't even be considered for the job in MSM in the first place. So we only get this one-sided view, that feels very dangerous, and is not able to be challenged by the public because they kept the comments section turned off.

Having taken complaints to the Council twice I have discovered that there is no ability to hold media to account over biased opinion pieces which make up probably 80-90 percent reporting these days. As a result biased media can basically mount propaganda campaigns and there is no ability to hold them to account.

    I've been commenting a lot on this on some Main Stream media CZcams videos (When they actually allow comments), particularly the reports concerning the protests that happened the other day. The reports are full of "Anti-Maori" and "Racist Policies" accusations from the reporters and the people being interviewed, at no point did they mention what these policies are in detail. So I asked in the comments what those policies are, there was ONE person that actually answered the question and the rest was pure speculation and biased opinions with no actual argument behind them. This is what they are doing when they frame everything using the Racism narrative, people don't actually understand the policies they are accusing of being racist but they just hear the word and assume that they are. ACTs Treaty of Waitangi principle changes are the least racist thing I've seen from any of the parties so far to be honest, they are all about implementing equality for everyone and ensuring everyone has the same rights. It's disgusting in my opinion, the media are meant to be the middle man between the politics and the people, but they are creating their own version of politics to suit their own agenda.

    • @JohnSmith-ux3tt
      @JohnSmith-ux3tt Před 7 měsíci

It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

And if so is there a complaint procedure in the case of the breach of any such rules or obligations ? If so who are they ? And how does one make a complaint ?

    • @iatsd
      @iatsd Před 7 měsíci +2

      No requirement to be licensed. No requirement for the staff to be trained either, as can clearly be seen in the standard of most NZ media. The BSA does exist and the courts exist for tort harm.
      Why should we need anythng else? Only thing that might be useful would be a requirement that statements be clearly (and I mean CLEARLY) differentiated between "news" and "opinion" when the talking heads say something, and make failure on those fronts (both of notation and content) an offence for the BSA to be ab;e to act on. Will put a lot of the right & left wing nutters out of business, and cut down on the mis-information vomited up on right wing media.

I heard an interview on RNZ this afternoon of the freshly minted Transport Minister, Simeon Brown being given no chance to explain his solution of a replacement Auckland harbour crossing. He was expected to say exactly what type of crossing would replace the harbour bridge and how much it would cost. No matter how much he tried to explain that he was still waiting for advice (he's only been minister for 9 days) the interviewer insisted he gave an immediate answer with a full costing. Unlike the previous government who promised the world, but without doing any costings, he was not prepared to do the same. Cleanser RNZ will no give the new cooitition government an honeymoon period at all. Shame on Radio New Zealand. Winny for Minister of Broadcasting!!!!!
