Claiming oppression and victimhood is the easy alternative to taking self-responsibility for one’s failures. Labour shamelessly fed and encouraged the former and was willing to flush the whole country down the toilet in the process. It still remains to be seen whether they succeeded or not.

So I am confused, should I characterize myself as a Mud Blood, Blood Traitor or what? Well all my life and I now am 68 years old, I have thought of myself as a KIWI. I really have not got the talent for rhetoric like Mr Jones et al, they are saying things that I am sure all New Zealanders who have a brain, myself included 100% agree with and should have been said a long time ago...Keep up the good work Mr Peters and Mr Jones...

Just a few of the many thoughts which are coming to me over recent times on this issue....
    1) How many people in NZ are Maori? (and are ANY of them pure 100% Maori?)
    2) How many people IDENTIFY as Maori?
    3) How many people are on the Maori electoral roll?
    4) What should be the definitive way to fix someone's cultural identity? ie "What IS a Maori?"
    5) Do all Maori / those who identify as Maori speak with one voice?
    6) Who is REALLY leading/driving this new wave of Maorification?
    7) How many Maori (or non-Maori) want them to be identified as a separate nationality?
    8) And thus, should they have separate governance and all other social, political and economic infrastructure?
    9) How would that work and interact with the rest of non-Maori NZ?
    10) Should all Maori resettle and live in ONE specific region of 'NZ' (and have a separate nationality, globally recognised)?
    11) Should there be a referendum (on the above)?
    12) Should we officially make the only language of NZ English, or become 'officially' (by referendum) a 2-language nation, like in Canada?
    ......etc etc etc.....

    • @magingi

Some very good questions, which would not be asked in any NZ main stream media, which, has played a significant role in the adoption of false dichotomies.
Often times, when Maori are the alleged 'victims', then we know their ethnicity. But when they are the perpetrators, for some odd reason, that element is missing. I refer to 'reports' in the media.
If someone identifies as Maori(fair enough) but genetically speaking they are 65% non Maori, how does that factor distort the data as it were? You know, sociological phenomena.
Furthermore, if you do identify as Maori, this confers upon you rights and privileges above and beyond the general population. Hardly equality, under the law or otherwise.

When Some Maori Acknowledged and signed the Treaty, about 2000 Europeans occupied Aotearoa and roughly 200 000 Maori lived here. The Minority white settlers sought protection for their ways of life from the Maori majority Through laws and Governance.less than 200 years later the boot is on the other Foot ,The Many are now the few and find themselves in the same Situation,Using the Laws and Government Legislation to protect their way and Identity. The Irony is thick but the understanding is ignored. For Maori who have despised the Colonial and Cultural Ignorance of the European Political System Are now Purveyors of very system they say has imprisoned them.If you cant beat them join them aye Cuzzy. The fact is we exist in a multi Cultural World, but thats does not mean we cant live as Maori .There is one Race and it is not "First Past the Post" it is Humanity!!!

@annebayne-wr2qy If you look at history nearly every nation has been colonised, taken over or rambunctiously theived off somebody. Life is full of parodies. Personal or National ones. And yes there are injustices, and awful bloodshed but what's important now is what we do to survive and live life the best way we can..taking nothing for granted and thanking God for our privileges and blessings with what time we've got left. To stop complaining and realise how better off we are than our ancestors. On all sides.
Even the English suffered terribly and were beholden to oppressive controlling regimes. Fought many wars and was taken captive by Nordica,Norman's and so many other conquests. Ireland and Scotland,India, Africa, Madagascar, Europe, The Americas, Spanish invasion,Alexander the Great, Ceasar, Israel...on and on...Who is without invasion?? We are what we are today..Without stupidity of Open Borders!!

It's not about toto tho it's about the future direction of this country the disparity between working & unemployed is way to big it's beyond embarrassing the gap between the ruling class & underclass has gotten worse this country has been getting sold from under our feet for to long now if we want to protect it & all it's goodness we need to listen to each other more it is happening at the expense of our mokopuna to many Maori now are in the prisons. I am a Mana Motuhake supporter ex Kohanga now taking up a PHD but I'm not a fan of some of the rhetoric TPM are selling it actually gets our ppl off side more so activism has its time & place but let's face it most of those taiohi are unemployed they are really pawns also & lack education & experience to do better for themselves. Alot of the hippie liberal supporters have spent more time isolated from their papa kainga there's to much politicizing of victimimhood rhetoric we need more pragmatism and experience from our Maori leaders they are utilizing their visual and social platforms for the party vote they need to slow down here & be more reflective real change starts with our selves and as we know the Maori vote 🗳 is divided more so now as TPM is tailored to the style of leadership which is more attractive to iwi hapu leaders and our kohanga Maori speaking generations.

Luxton said he was not going to tinker with the Treaty. Then today tinker bell is excluding Maori from Pharmac? Thats not just tinker thats sneakily trying to set a precedance. If the remove Maori from one dept it is a slippery slope for Maoru and Pakeha alike.
He said it is very minor. Only a footnote. Really? Maori have heard it all before. This is why Maori will protest on mass. Thats why they were all told at Waitangi dont touch the treaty. Shayne, winston , luxton all gave assurances to Maori. The tail is wagging the old dogs.

I think you've missed the point. They haven't "excluded Maori from Pharmac", they're focusing funding on drugs that will benefit everyone in NZ equally. Why should one race be prioritised? The treaty was designed with ALL New Zealanders in mind, not just to benefit one race. We all call New Zealand home and should all have equal rights & privileges. One rule for everyone, one NZ.

@@imaginelf22that garbage & is a sign of someone historically illiterate. The Treaty only made guarantees to Maori that the British crown will bring its citizens living in NZ to heel because of their lawless behavior. That sentiment changed when their numbers grew & illegally enacted the 1852 constitution Act creating a parliament for Pakeha only, than wide Maoriland confiscation took place decimating significantly already dwindling maori populations.
