In 1990, two men dressed as cops con their way into a Boston museum and steal a fortune in art. Take a deep dive into this daring and notorious crime. - Zábava
For anyone who actually visits Boston, this museum is amazing and they 100% still have the empty frames hanging where the art was stolen. It's very cool.
Yes! I was going to write that same thing. It's sad and yet hopeful, because it does feel like they're waiting for their art to return.
It's also like an "In Memoriam" to honor the lost art I guess. It's very obvious that due to the high profile nature of the works that whoever stole them kept the paintings for themselves. There's no way they can sell them in the open art market because they will get instantly recognized as the lost masterpieces. So they gotta be sitting in someone's basement or vault or hidden in an attic or behind a wall somewhere. Whether or not they surface one day remains to be seen. And that to me, would be the fascinating sequel and conclusion to this mystery. 😉
I agree! - Because they are not allowed to change anything. It was in her will to leave everything as is ... it never crossed her mind that this would happen. LOL
It really is a great museum though
My mother went a few years ago and raved on about it! Shame that the paintings were stolen but when you have that much currency worth of art, others will want a piece of it.
I hope I can visit there one day
I think Netflix is better at making documentaries than movies or dramas.
They make it very compelling and make the subject matter from swear words to murder such an iintriguing watch
much better and interesting
100%. I do watch more documentaries rather than sitcoms or movies in Netflix.
I think Netflix doesn’t care what you think.
Hahaha
Anytime you hear that violin in the back you know the documentary is a banger!!

I did a 25+ page research paper on this in college! I'm so excited! It remains as far as my knowledge the biggest unsolved heist ever. Not just art heist but any heist, of all time.
Interested can I read your research
Nice which degree?
I want answers dammit
What grade did you get for the paper??

the 'World's Biggest Art Heist' is right in front of our faces at the British Museum
True but class museum so dc.
@@Ninja-gt3zi they also put a lot of effort into preserving important artefacts and rescuing them from unstable countries. Such a small brain argument to give everything back to the countries they came from, that’s all well and good but it will be flogged and lost to private collectors forever. The British museum isn’t some bank like a vault of gold it works with countries to protect their artefacts and study them for the sake of anthropology and ancient history. it doesn’t keep them for a laugh or out of spite.
@@teeambird2079 holy crap ! So why not Brits return those artifacts to their real owner as now many countries like India Egypt is a stable country & can invest in research
Actually
@@teeambird2079 Sure
The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is unbelievable. Before this happened, I remember going there to write a paper for an art class. I spent a considerable amount of time there. I don't remember, but I'm sure I a saw these paintings when I was there, because I covered every inch of that place. It's pretty incredible.
Definitely on my bucket list
Not me thinking this was Money Heist Part 5💀🖐

Imagine one watching this doc with that art in front of them as they lay in the arms of their wrinkly boyfriend 😆😝
K that is adorable
Lmao 😂
Those works belong to humanity. Only selfish wastes of breath would want them for themselves.

I get chills every time I walk into The Dutch Room & you see the empty frames! It’s like God this really happened, and on Paddy’s Night too! Genius!

Yes.

Cool fun video 😎💚👍🏼❤️
I’m suddenly into finding lost paintings 🧐
That Rembrant one with the boat is stunning.... so sad its missing
This is so exciting!! Went to this museum and it was chilling to see the empty frames. Hopefully this doc can help get the word out to a new generation
I love the soundtracks of this documentary. It's so dramatic and intense and yet elegant at the same time
it looks incredible. I screamed when I saw the trailer because this case is so intriguing to me
Really? You screamed? This must be very important to you in your life huh 😒

Imagine someone going into their parents/grandparents attic, seeing some rolled up paintings and casually tossing them out, completely oblivious to what they really are.
That is my deepest fear that this will be done to one of these pictures. Thank God Netflix is stirring the pot again to keep them in the cultural memory!
That pierced my heart soooo deeply
That won’t happen - I’m sure they are loved by a black market buyer who bought them ...
@@jessicamoore1314 These were almost certainly stolen as collateral for other things, not for their artistic value. Check out the Swedish National Museum theft from the early 2000s. That's why there's such a high risk of accidental destruction or mishandling damage. This isn't a movie where some corrupt billionaire keeps them in a secret gallery in his mansion. Some mouth breather has them rolled up in a basement lockup somewhere waiting for the day he gets arrested.
@@ArtemisScribe Their collateral value alone is why they most likely haven’t been mishandled.
They should make an actual series from this story😳😳😳😳❤❤
I think the old lawyer got them as a payment, he looks sneaky 😅
Watching this documentary, my heart broke for the stolen artwork so many people will never get to see. Seeing how one of the potential owners treated it so recklessly, just letting it waste away, rolling up centuries old artwork so it wound up cracking. Art should be enjoyed by everyone, not just the guy with half a million to throw around.
And it was so infuriating that the FBI never really cared to give a good investigation & just assigned a random lackey.
Also Bobby Guarente is the literal twin of the second guy in the drawings. Definitely believe he did it.
Me: Ooh I've heard of this heist. This should be interesting.

I absolutely love how Netflix is doing documentaries...so captivating, can't wait.
I really love netflix documentaries and unsolved mysteries..please do more! 👏🏻
Better than HBO
$10m reward but the price of all that paintings is $500m 😂
It’s 10 million for information leading to find them. It doesn’t mean that the person that gets the reward has the paintings.
So what is your point? The museum is not looking to “purchase” them. They are looking to recover them.
@@daughterofolaf Yeah i know. and if someone knows the real price of that paintings they will be not interested in reward, they will sell that in higher price, reality, that's my point. lol
@@adorhambre597 They can't sell these paintings now. they are waaay too high profile
Please we all know the cops never pay anyone. Never
The most perplexing thing about this heist, is how a museum with artwork valued at $500+ million dollars, would put the responsibility of protecting it into a Grateful Dead stoner who liked to do acid.
What's the worse that can happen?
I remember watching this report on Buzzfeed Unsolved and learned that the security guy who worked that night was too chill I’m pretty sure he was high as a kite that night lol
My favorite documentary of ALL TIME, BY FAR.
Omg yesssss the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum!!! It’s one of my favorite museums and they still have the empty frames of the paintings on the wall, in the hope they will be returned. The most famous art heist ever. Also one of the lawyers in this trailer was also in the Operation Varsity Blues documentary 😂 He represented the Stanford sailing coach. Yes, I have eagle eyes and pretty sure the only one who caught this.
"Grandpa is dead, look what we've got!"

I’ll be watching it today, so excited 😍
An amazing, amazing, amazing show -- cannot say enough good things about it!
Just watched all 4 episodes. Conclusion: Brilliant, Brilliant, BRILLIANT
Expectation: Money Heist
Reality : Art Heist
The art is worth over 500,000,000. How is that not a money heist?
About time Netflix comes out with a good mystery docuseries! I am sick and tired of Netflix raising the prices every year and having absolutely nothing interesting to watch!
Everyone: Money Heist
Me: hey i saw this case on buzzfeed unsolved nice :D
I hope there’s fake mustaches in the recreations.
Imagine the thief laughing at this 😂
This art works heist documentary looks really interesting!!
Mrs Gardiner occupied 150/152 Beacon Street. When she moved to the pink palazzo the number 152 Beacon was retired, leaving 150 Beacon the largest space. It was bought by Emerson College. I lived there, with pull-chain toilets and intricate murals of Leda & the swan over our bathtubs. Mrs Gardiner was a rabid Red Sox fan, and when you go to the museum on game days wearing anything Red Sox, admission is free. Plus, if anybody is named Isabella: free admission
Even if you're not an art aficionado, this theft should sicken even the most jaded, cynical person.
Indeed
Why? It was stolen from a rich lady with art insurance lol
Awesome!!
I just hope, someday I will be able to see those stolen paintings on those walls. In my home city, I have great hope.
The security guard definitely knows who took it 💯

Oh my god… i just need to find a small part of the painting 🤪
The Gardner Museum is so beautiful, it's a shame this is how it's known.
This is probably why most museums should have replicas displayed instead. And most likely already do.
I love your documentaties
The biggest robbery do by netflix who stole my lot of time by showing these types of fabulous documentry.

I can't wait.
What if the robbers are sitting here watching this documentary and just praying that no one will actually be able to find them by watching this thing?

(3 skeletons sitting on the couch with 999 Doritos and watching Netflix)
Wow
Entrusting the safekeeping of such valuable artistic values to a frivolous person who is not an expert in security, is in my opinion, the greatest failure of this museum, the paintings have deservedly disappeared, I am surprised that in addition to this kind of security, they did not disappear before... How did you take care of the paintings so you it happened... Now someone else will take better care of them than the museum... Sad story..
