    For anyone who watched Top Gear, the one time Geremy Clarkson Didn’t crack a joke was when they did the tribute on Aryton Senna. From being a fierce competitor to getting out of his car to try and save a fellow racer. No one has come to race in the rain with as much skill as Senna. I respect drivers before and after. He pushed what a F1 car could do and many around the world knew who he was. The Honda McLaren MP4/4 is one of those cars that shined. We will remember

      and he was a greater man out of the car. Paying for poor kids hospital treatment (with non disclosures for no publicity). His staff on his farm/ranch & other properties all got a free house, college education for their kids & got a share of the estate profits - a co-operative & profit related pay before there was such a thing. He set up loads of other charitable things under the radar too. The Ayrton Senna Foundation was being set up when he died & has changed the life of so many kids in Brazil. That's his true legacy. He faced adversity with courage (he was the foreign outsider when he came racing to the UK & beat them all). The resilience to never give up despite the odds is a great example for kids too. His family weren't always wealthy & he knew to take nothing for granted - that 's why he worked with the mechanics before & after every race throughout his career (from Malcolm 'Puddie' Pudden in Formula Ford/F3000 to Gordon Murray at Mclaren & David Brown at Williams, he went over the spec of the car & it's set-up, analysing the data at every race). He was the mechanics driver in every team he was in.

    My friend has developed an interest in Formula 1 and so naturally she has been trying to recruit me. We’ve been watching old races and reading about legends such as Senna. We knew he died racing but we hadn’t delved deep into it until we did and I was never okay. I can’t see his name without my heart breaking for someone I never knew. What a story and what a legacy.

    For those who are not Brazilian, they don't know who Ayrton Senna is. In Brazil he has the status of a hero, not a national hero but something supernatural. A God of speed and courage. Ayrton practiced charity and hid it from the public because he thought it was wrong to promote himself like that. He was that kind of person. He is much more loved than Pelé. And Pelé is loved too... but Ayrton managed to stay a step higher.

      Agree 100% with the OP. Senna is above Pelé in terms of popularity and achieved a status in the hearts of Brazilians that no one else will ever be able to match. He made us proud because not only he was competing in an elite sport but winning and being recognised as a force and feared by other drivers. European drivers from rich developed countries whereas Senna was representing all of us Brazilians from a third world country with a poor economy and a weak currency. We were there with him and we were successful. We already had that status in football (at the time anyway) and already had F1 champions (Nelson Piquet, for example) but Senna’s personality and the way he conducted himself on and off the track made F1 explode in popularity in Brazil at the time. You had to be there to truly understand what I mean. We felt really close to him and that’s why his death was so hard to accept. He was (still is) special and by far the biggest and most loved sports person in Brazil. EVER.

      @MD-wv7ee Před 15 dny +45

      I think you underestimate the power of Senna for non-Brazilians.
      He's the greatest F1 driver of all time and he absolutely transcended the sport like no one before him or after him. There will never be another Senna.
      With Pele, he forgot his roots. Thought he was bigger than the sport. Was involved in shady business practices so his legacy and image was a bit tarnished.
      Senna is untouchable.

    An inspiration to push yourself to the limits. However, in the end, this was his downfall. To die on a hill.
    You can either live life playing safe, not pushing yourself, not reaching your full potential, not being fulfilled. Or you can go out doing the thing you truly love.
    It's similar to loving someone and losing them, or never loving at all.

No matter how many times someone now will break his records , its not relevant with current tehchonoly and cars.
