My name is Lloyd Sharpe I was the guy who sang played and wrote Escape from Miami - Tough Guys and Tae Kwando family The movie was supposed to be called Escape From Miami but for some reason they changed it after we'd already wrote and recorded the songs. The lyric Bikers by day ninjas by night was written by my brother in law William Young { RIP} who also played the club owner who introduced Dragon Sound and had the fight scene with the old band leader. I was playing the riff for Escape from Miami and we had no lyrics yet and Bill { William Young } said bikers by day ninjas by night and i thought it was hilarious and we just rolled with it from there. They wanted a band name so we used my first name and the keyboards player first name so it was the Lloyds Richards band. Anyway there's a little history lesson about how the music was made. I have no idea how or where Dragon Sound recorded their music i never even met them.

HOLY SHITTTT. I grew up in Kissimmee and took tae kwon do classes at the YK Kim branch there. Jeff (William Ergle) was my instructor. I had no idea this even existed.

Jim died in the original ending but after screening reviews, people said they didn't like the end, so they hurriedly shot the ending where he survives. Problem was, Hall and Oates was busy doing something else, which he's why he's not at the hospital. The girl and H&O went on to get married after meeting making this film.
I love finding out about people finding love on the sets of bad movies. That way even if the movie fails to be a success, something good came out of it. But with this movie it was a win-win, of course!

VICE did an excellent episode on the life of the director (Y.K. Kim). Very interesting, and yes he does have a cult following in the martial arts world. Y.K Kim is a very positive dude.

As a resident of Florida, your map is, without much exaggeration, perfectly accurate. There are like 4 or 5 pockets of population, a thin line along the coast, and the rest is swamps and pine forest.

This movie was one of Rifftrax's best Live shows. I'm happy to settle into this video. It's a classic.
There's also an alternate ending where Jim dies in the car as his father's plane is landing.

The sincerity is like 90% of why I love this movie. It's so pure and sweet with such good intentions and there's nothing cynical about it. I can't name a more wholesome ninja-drug-dealing-biker-gang-tae-kwon-do-rock-band movie out there. Just the best.

I love the Friends for Eternity song. It's one of the few rock songs where I can actually hear most of the lyrics. I mean sure, Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song sounds awesome, but I can't understand a damn thing their singing about. So I'll give props to the soundtrack of this movie.

I love how up until the 90s every action film was all about the body counts and zero importance was given to the fact that someone just got fucking killed. As in, these characters had closure right away and had zero problems sleeping at night. I used to suspend my disbelief but today I look at a film like this one and all I can think is "a rookie officer is going to have spend several long nights doing a shit-ton of paperwork let alone coming to terms with the fact that ninjas exist."

Floridian here. It's true, it's an alligator filled swamp everywhere that's not paved. We have alligators in our retention ponds. City parks have to put up signs to warn people not to go into the lakes because of gators.

so i finally saw this movie the other day, and nobody mentions how genuinely good the sound track is.
i put it on as background noise for work, so most of the time i didn't SEE what was happening, but the sound track (other than the dragon sound songs, etc) is AMAZING 80s synth.
Nobody ever says that.
It must have been so weird for this movie to get popularity like 25 years later after it was completely ignored

I forgot what this movie was called and was looking for it again it so wholesome thank you for finding it for me again.
Guys, I finally know why Hall and Oathes is not in the final hospital scene. The thing is : YK Kim had to re-shoot some scenes of the movie after it's initial release, thus changing a little bit the plot. And the alternative ending in which Jim dies WAS THE ORIGINAL ENDING!!!
(that also may explain why there are two actors playing the white ninja role)

As a person from Florida, I can confirm 98% of the state is Alligator infested swamps with little bits of civilization here and there. Gators show up at schools, pools, backyards, kitchens (if you have those shitty screen doors in those old homes), you can see them lounging in the side of the roads. Our animal control guys look genuinely annoyed every time they have to pick up a gator, they're everywhere. We also have like, a themepark dedicated to gators, called Gatorland. So yeah, it's infested with gators.
This film and Lone Wolf McQuaid make a great double feature. 80's madness. Great review as always guys.

The vid was awesome- buuuuuut I'm always looking for cute little games I can play to either decompress before I crash, or to wake my brain up in the morning before I get up.
I mean, I like my Fallout, Star Citizen and so on... but I looked up the trailer vid for Luna and the Moonling and it looks so pretty, and something that would help me wake my brain up in the morning.
I don't do coffee- this is the sort of thing I use to jump start myself and feel more awake in the morning... 10 bucks on Steam, I'm definitely checking it out!
