The korean actor who played the protag was 40 when he filmed this. He was a Taekwondo instructor and the other guys were all students in his dojo. They made this film to promote the dojo despite having zero experience in moviemaking. He lost a lot of money and had to close down a few dojos. Still, he bounced back and is making a killing as a motivational speaker.

Lucky you,they forced us to watch it in english class in 10th grade a few years ago.It was the only known thing on the entire planet that could put me in a deep deep sleep.In fact,maybe i should buy a copy of it just to treat my insomnia when it acts up. lol Though that might create more problems,would you say it'd be worth it or should we just take all of the copies of the movie and books and burn them in a pile and then scrub the internet clean of any digital files?

The Miami Connection is The Room But Good
Listen: Both were made by immigrants with heavy accents, but a enough of a grasp of the English language to write a script.
Both had a creator who did not understand how movies were made and had never made a film before
Both had their creator both write the script, direct and star
Both use sets in order to avoid permits (The Room: scenes in the park, the shots of San Francisco, the pet shop and diner. Miami Connection: The beach, the river, the university)
Both have one-dimensional protagonists who are persecuted by opponents with confusing motivations
Both have side-plots that seem to either go nowhere or are resolved suddenly
Both have sudden and inconsistent tone-shifts
Both have endings that come out of nowhere
Both utterly flopped
The difference is in the motivation behind their creation and this shines through.
Tommy Wiseau (according to The Disaster Artist book) wanted to make a film about how he felt personally betrayed by the success of his peers and the disrespect of his chosen craft (Johnny's banking compared to Tommy's acting). His motives were suspect and you can tell with the sleazy feel of the entirety of the Room.
Y.K. Kim wanted to make a film about friendship and promote Taekwondo. His motives were pure.
That is why Miami Connection is the best bad movie ever made.
Plus, it's got ninjas and catchy songs in it.

what the hell was that movie actually about?
There’s actually a little documentary on this movie here on CZcams. It’s basically the creation of master YK Kim(the Asian guy in the group). He ran martial arts schools in the 80’s. Pretty well known schools in Central Florida, he got lots of help from people to make this movie, a lot of it was shot for basically nothing. And the actors in the movie were students who attended his schools. The movie as he was quoted as saying is petty much what the song from Dragon Sound says. Plus it was a way to promote his business, so actually clever on his part.
Of course the movie shifts it’s tone all over the fucking place, this has to be the most bi-polar movie I’ve ever seen. On one hand it’s 80’s B-grade cheese as one might expect given the genre. But then we shift to heads getting cut off and blood getting splattered over someone’s face, and the black guy nearly getting disemboweled.
There’s even an alternate ending where the black guy dies in the car as his fathers plane is landing, it was amazingly the only scene in the movie test audiences had a problem with. Yes, this movie was screened for audiences and had positive feedback except for the ending, which of course was changed.
Friends through eternity. Loyalty, honesty. Staying together through thick or thin. Friends forever.. being together. Being on top and playing to win.

@@10191927 I went to his school as a kid in Orlando. I remember the class talking about the movie while it was being filmed. Grandmaster Y. K. Kim! When he would start class he'd always start with saying, ''Have a sit!''. IDK what happened to that school, but it's still a martial arts TKD school, but not Kim's anymore I guess.
This movie is a series of world star videos loosely strung together by a weird story line.

Plus, wrestling was huge back then, so guys would get together and spend hours watching 2-4 oily huge-muscled men rub up on each other at a time, as they pretend fought.
The 80s were super gay, only people wee were young kids at the time, so weren’t part of the gayness, have these memories of how amazing it was.
You can always tell how gay a time was, by the normal haircut of men at the time. The 80s were the time of the mullet. A haircut that was very specifically designed to make you look like a woman from behind, especially while you were wearing your super-short booty shorts.
