  • A pretty cool tactical turn based strategy game, Battlesector is here and while it seems to have more potential than content at the moment, it's still very fun.

    I'm happy they made sisters evil on this game. Thought they were watering them down recently

    Your tech marine was obstructed because of the big ol wall of metal parked right in front of them. Working as intended in this case.

    Good video, I'm playing this at the moment and agree with most of your points. I want to replay it, or at least I did several missions ago. This game is looong, longer than it probably needed to be. I was hoping to get to the end so I could restart the game with more of an assault squad type army, but now I just want to finish it. Also the audio for the voices sounds a bit off, that screech thing was very noticeable at the start of the game, but a lot of the Space Marines sound like High Elves from WH2. Apart from Croginax, he's great. Anyway, subscribed, you remind me of Mandalore.

    Just came across your gunfire reborn review and was genuinely surprised by the quality in writing and editing for a small channel. Just subscribed and I really hope to see you do great in the future.

    I'm pretty sure I heard some Supreme Commander music in the background! That would be a great game to do a video on. :)

    Nice review, i liked battlesector even when it made my GPU go into overdrive for some reason. What do you think of Gladius?, its the best 40k game for multiplayer matches IMO i hope they add a lot of factions to this like Gladius. Also cautiously optimistic for the new Chaos Gate, im a fan of the original game but the devs of the new one are totally unknown

    Space Marine is that game, SM2 hopefully will be too, it's why I have any interest in 40k now.

    How long would a regular level take to complete? I wasn't sure if battling Tyranids all the time would get to repetitive and maybe the game should have had at least one more faction. Great video!

      @Potpotron  Před 2 lety +2

      It ranges from 5 min the early missions to 30+ once you reach the final levels. It definitely wasn't repetitive but like I said I probably won't be replaying the whole thing

    I guess you can like RNG hit chances eh? Although you said you couldn't 100% figure out they were there. I feel like out of all 40K games this is the closest to the tabletop in rules, even though it has stuff like momentum and simultaneous shooting/movement phase. The hit rates are maybe a little higher than what you would see in tabletop as well but then again SM/Tyrannids have much better hit rates on tabletop than say Orks so it doesn't paint a complete picture. Yes RNG can even make the difference between killing a unit or not. You can load a save and do the same action and have it do significantly less damage, it's not a bug like you thought. I'm not fully sure but I think you can achieve 100% hit rate in some situations in Battlesector though. Also tabletop can have a similar amount of shots fired if you weren't aware. I recently saw a 1,000 point battle (which is only the second smallest standard battle size) on tabletop Orks vs Grots(a grot rebellion) where most of the Grots teams points was in a giant Stompa. Some of it's attacks involved rolling 40 dice at a single time, it was insane. I think what really makes Battlesector shine in comparison to lots of other 40K turn based games is that the AI is actually good. That is becoming increasingly rare for 40k titles.

    I kind of feel like your critiques on the shooting aspects are more "problems" that are inherent to the genre and you not using the tools provided. Overwatch will only trigger if a unit is visible to shot, so it never triggers "through" terrain, but it will trigger on targets with significant obstructions modifiers at long range with very low probabilities of hits. Overwatch triggering on low probability shots is kind of just a fact of life in turn based games, but ironically this is one of the rather few that has a reasoanble solution, you can set a range threshold for it to prevent very low probability long distance or through partial cover shots from triggering.
    The other thing I think is probably just the game not communicating some aspects of shooting very well, which is a very valid criticism iMO. The first factor is most weapons have a damage range that is basically RNG. If the weapon barely overmatches a target's armor you can get shots that hit, but roll low damage and are just absorbed. The other is that it doesn't do a great job communicating at a glance what what is effecting a shot in terms of cover and obstruction. For instance you can shot 'through' friendly models, but if you go through the hassle to actually get to the breakdown you'll see this imposes a significant accuracy penalty.
    The later applies to overwatch as well, so if a unit overwatches through like two allied units, it's going to take a huge accuracy nerf even if the target looks to be otherwise in fairly optimal position.

    It seems like you didn't notice some stuff. Literally while you are saying "you have no idea how many points a certain mission requires you also have no clue of the type of enemy or terrain you are facing" (14:35) the point limit for the upcoming mission you have yet to start and a picture to give you an idea of the terrain is on screen. If you knew about how army point limits work for the tabletop you would also know that they are roughly equal for both armies, so if you have less points the Tyrannids are gonna have less units or cheaper point value units. The skirmish mode is a good way to get a feel for that sort of thing cause you will realize the Tyrannid army point values a bit more. Also other than when you first put them together and decide what they are wielding tabletop 40k doesn't let you customize and level up units. That is a feature unique to spin-offs like Necromunda and why that game was made with kit-bashing in mind (if you don't know what kit-bashing is it's when you take different tabletop models that are not in the same kit and 'bash' them together i.e. gluing muscle arms and a naked head with a mohawk on a space marine torso to represent a Goliath waering armour in Necromunda). On the tabletop you can also change what commands (what you spend command points on) you want to bring into a battle before you start and you get to choose your units from your entire collection only limited by what units your army is allowed to field and the army point limit (hence the Stompa in a 1000 point battle I mentioned). So casualties not really mattering is actually accurate and when you think about the insane multi-planet spanning populations of all the races of 40k it sorta makes sense.
    EDIT: I forgot to mention on the tabletop you CAN upgrade your HQ units similar to Battlesector
