- Empires Dawn of the Modern World is a spiritual succesor to the legendary RTS Empire Earth, made by the same people but with a different approach. In this Gaming Memory Lane I will be revisiting this childhood favorite of mine, to see how it holds up and maybe some things I missed all those years ago.

This was my favorite RTS of all time. By far. I wish it was still alive

U can still play it online with gameranger!!! Me and my friends played all last weekend online
@@MRkriegs never heard of gamerranger?
@@josephanderson3451 its a platform of sorts where you can play online. You will have to install it and create acc, and done
know ur comment was years ago but if u still looking for it can buy it on good old games kinda like steam
This was the first RTS I played in my life and to this day I will say it's still a more complete RTS then a lot of them made in this day and age.
Same here. I played it before i could even read XD
@@moonshadow116 Same I couldn't read anything when I was playing this game other than numbers lol
Well, you , juns, didn't play real games cause you were born too late. AoE and dune are truly predecessors of what we have nowadays. Nevertheless, I've been playing this since the day this game was released. Well. More than 2 decades now
It's so sad nothing like this has been made again on upgraded graphics/engines. The breadth of this game was incredible, even if some things like airplanes/ships could get wonky it was so fun to launch an all or nothing air raid and have all your aircraft taking off, flying through flak, fighters intercepting then having a few nukes hit and just crippling the opponent. Loved the paths that got built between buildings just showing how far your Civ expanded, then contracted. Sneak attack submarines, covert amphibious landings, ability to hunker down units. Access to so many eras. I'd pay good money for a remaster.
I still want an Empire Earth 1 Definitive Edition with all 15 ages. If they could do that, TAKE MY MONEY!!!
this game was so ahead of its time i couldnt even max out the settings until several pc upgrades later, (80k population limit) put every game in its time to shame and many modern rts as well
i still cant put it at max

Had good times with this game. The country transitions were pretty funny, and the bread and ham bit still is stuck in my brain 15+ years later
The Henry V campaign is historically accurate, as outlandish as it sounds.
Yes I was surprised when I read the real history it was pretty accurate. The Patton one is quite accurate aswell.
The campaigns are indeed taking some liberty in their stories.
Richard’s campaign is the most ahistorical of them, and it’s part of the wider phenomenon of him being a “good king.” In reality he saw England as a big fat piggy bank to finance his wars, which is what he was really into as he had no interest in governing. He has a noble rap sheet because he was such a major supporter of the Crusades, and religion was a big deal with how the church had a hand in everything.
Yi’s campaign is the most faithful of the bunch. While there was most certainly no collaboration with the Japanese and Manchu raiders to exploit Korea, the court was indeed a rotten apple with a king better suited to peace that allowed the military to stagnate with ill-suited commanders. Yi also fought the Manchu until being reassigned to the south, and did indeed have a friend in the courts that backed him however he could. The really remarkable thing is Yi faithfully served in Korea’s defense despite the corrupt court constantly demoting and taking away his command, and he never lost a battle up to his death. He’s pretty much the Korean symbol of loyalty.
And Patton’s campaign. Definite creativity choices there with the super weapon hunt, it’s charming in a cheesy way though.
Dropping nukes on your ally's fleet in a lake when they have run out of population availability for other units is an Empires: DotMW staple.
I remember my aunt buying me this game when I was a kid. I still think about it all of the time.
Great game. I always played the French and my friend played the English. The French could learn the arson skill and I remember burning down all his housing because he built them too close together. Good times.
They need to make a remaster of this game and even expansion pack with more factions, units, ages for a better transition of time.

At the time I thought this was the best RTS game. I can still remember how cool it was to make your bombers patrol a certain area for defence. And how totally hectic it sometimes could get. I'm not sure but I think that at the time I thought nations where not well balanced. Like the Germans in WW2 where way better then the others. But I might remember that wrong since it is so long ago. Would be a great game for a HD re-release I t think.
Loved this game to bits. My brothers and I would fight who got to play on the computer and would be forced to take turns XD (Empire mode was banned for time reasons). I think my favorite would be the scenario editor. Going through the cycle of repeating battles and always giving the loosing side more units until the game crashed was the best. We even made a helms deep defense scenario. Still remember trading it with a friend for Cyrsis 2 and the pain of listening to him explain it just vanished. Very glad GOG brought it back to life on windows 10.
Oh man you just woke up some memories of me fighting the same fights with my 2 siblings, we also had the ONE computer. My dad had his own and next to it was his previous one that he allowed us to play games in. We had to keep it an hour each tops lol
Stalemate matches were so fun in this game. I remember building up your entire continent or whatever, having walls and mass globs of AA and stuff. Just probing each other for like 3 hours trying to find that weak point. I remember realizing that my SAS units blended in with the ocean if I had them swim up the edge of the map, went inside and blew up his airports with a squad of like 8 SAS units and ending the stalemate. Was so fkin fun.
This game, Battle for Middle earth and Red alert 2 were my childhood!!! Quality video boss
Love your videos. Keep up the good work. Really like gaming memory lane series, nostalgia incoming
i actually liked very much watching soldiers with their armor, their look, the animations, and weapon fighting eachother. Especially when unique characters like Richard, Admiral Yi etc... because they had unique stats and so on, for me it was one of the most enjoyable videogame
I played this for hours and for months. Loved every aspect of it. Was a big fan of the campaigns though!
This was one of the very first RTS I ever played and I loved it so much. The scenario editor made it even better!
holy hell this game came out in 2003? wow.
I remember playing this game as a kid, but I didnt think it was that old.
7:00 i like my soldier going Ka ching ka ching with their swords that's the main appeal.
Got it on a sale recently, played 5 hours so far, and thanks to my experience with age of empires 2 I'm doing pretty well even against hard difficulty ai. Pretty fun.
I used to play this so much in my early teens, I was bestie with the #3 ranked solo player. That guy was something different from most players. I love this game and launch it at least once a year
Pretty nice video, I never saw this game growing up oddly enough. I had friends who played Starcraft, Age of empires and other nation building games and later on in highschool, more and more grand strat games but Empires Dawn of modern world and Empire Earth, just seemed to be a real curve ball. I eventually learned of this game from its soundtrack popping up on CZcams more than anything else.
Those Chinese Kite flying bowmen though, lol, I love how you can just direct them like any other RTS aerial unit.
excellent quality video I grew up very fond of almost every RTS game I could get my hands on Empire Earth being one of them
but until a couple weeks ago when I was searching on GoG for RTS titles I had never heard of this one and honestly this video has definitely reassured me that I will be picking this up at some point to try 🤘
Definetly do! I had no problem running it from GOG. You do have to do some registry edits to get it to 1080p which is a bit annoying. Other than that it runs smoothly with no crashes or nothing. I loved replaying it, and as a kid I even liked some aspects better than Empire Earth which is saying something
This is by far my favorite RTS. This and Civ IV were always my top go-tos (can you tell I love 4X?). Story mode was always meh to me, especially because I was younger and felt like I got softlocked when I got to the more complicated parts, but fighting the AIs with planes and awesome-looking ships and bombs and tanks was never not amazing. I’m sad this series never really took off instead of AoE. I think it had so much more potential with future iterations of the series.
I actually made my 10th grade history project with EDMW....... thinking back at it now, helped me combine school and having fun... i created a map and scenario with the Editor, and recreated the invasion of normandy and the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki thereafter. Needless to say, I got an A.... as far as being unique to the rest of the classes projects, mine was unmatched. It was the dawn of the modern world.
Nice! can you release it ? I want to play it
As a huge fan of WWII Era in Empire Earth, I have been disappointed that in future years there has never been another game quite like EE - And while online servers are still on life support in the form of fan-made third party support, you just can't go back to the old days of what used to be. Admittedly, I've never played Empires Dawn of the Modern World - and I think it probably would be an amazing experience. Truth is, now I lean toward the polish and active community of Age of Empires, because those games are currently shining. But I always wonder with some regret why there was never a new, modern, sandbox RTS in the WWII/Modern Era created in the Empire Earth/Age of Empires style - random maps, not defined by campaigns, where every match felt truly distinct. There's tons of WWII games, but none that really capture the open-ended gameplay of something like this. Perhaps one day! I would be so stoked, beyond belief if this or Empire Earth could somehow be resurrected in a remastered form.
Fantastic video man. Such great detail about the game. I'm the same as when it comes to RTS games, I just jump straight to skirmish, rather then campaign.
Thank you! I was afraid I came up as very mean to the campaigns, I always liked that they were there but it felt kinda against the point of the whole genre.
Dawn of the Modern World was a favourite. At some point my original Cd broke sadly, apparently it was freely available as a piece of abandonware software for a short time before GoG added it to their catalogue while not maintaining the game at all beyond selling it. I'd love to see this getting picked up again eventually but seeing as it has been 20 years it will probably become as obscure as Paraworld.
I loved this game! 1 of my favourite games was when I played against a hard AI and capped them at medieval while I was able to get to WW2 then.. "Colonise" the savage lands who refuse to adapt to a changing world.. always fun clearing out a nation with a few tanks and a whole army for the lols
I loved the RTS back in the game!!!!! I still would love to play this game!!!!
Amazing video dude, keep it up!
Thank you very much! Definetly more of these coming
As a kid from 3 to 11 aprox i would play lots of RTS on the pc and Empires was one of my favorites, so nice to see it again. Great music too
First video of yours I've watched, great job! Instaclick for me, I love this game and have seen very little about it fr other people. I got gifted it for a birthday, and played it often for the next 5 years. Loved the skirmish mode, so much replayability. I loved played the UK and using the amphibious tanks and soldiers, would be a pretty versatile army. Thanks for the vid!
Thank you very much! I think I literally never talked about this game with anyone before making this video, is like it flew right past people, so strange given how succesful Empire Earth was. The amphibious tanks with the white phosforous ability were super cool, used them a bunch this time around.
There is a download link in the description of this video. Hope you enjoy it.

My favorite part of this game was the custom battles/map maker where you could place all the units down for huge battles. It was basically like an early version of epic battle simulator.
This music brings back so many memories!
After almost 20 years of play I still have my fun with the IA
The online multiplayer for this game was super fun back in the day.
I remember playing this when i was a kid i didnt really know what i was doing but i enjoyed it and was happy
Great job man!
il gioco più bello a cui abbia mai giocato ... mi manca tantissimo ! e se potessi ci giocherei anche ora al posto dei giochi ultimi usciti :(
i miss this game
great video, loved this game as a kid
Wild I used to be the goat at this game. I remember queing up full lobbies v me. Good times, thank you for bringing back memories.
Anytime! It was a joy to relieve the memories myself
Was it popular on multiplayer?
It was for several years, until eventually the multiplayer server was taken down. Great times, wish the servers stayed up.
I loved this game growing up. It was so much fun and grew my love of RTS's from my early days of warcraft 2.
I agree that the campaigns were lackluster but I think the devs wanted to create unique scenarios. I disagree about the rubber chicken analogy with the tower, because I felt it was easy to figure out.
The historical accuracy of the campaigns is a bit stretched for sure. They got the events of the Lionheart saga fairly accurate like Elenaor selling out England to bail Richard out or the betrayal of Henry with the Francs. Yi-Sun-Sin was half true, the tactical use of storms and passes was true however they add mysticism later. Chinese being the first with gunpowder was accurate. We dont talk about the WW2 campaign lol.
I agree with the meatiness of units. I felt in sandbox the units were more reflective of units but that contradicts how they're used in campaigns. It would've been better to have them have smaller health pools or more damage.
Im definitely gonna give this a redownload and play again.
Love this! so glad it's still got some love on gameranger. Thanks for the vid - you got a sub :)
It was a solid game that I played for a bit. Although I appreciate its narrower focus nowadays, it felt far less "special" due to its smaller scope relative to Empire Earth.
Funny: as a kid I had all the time and desire to deal with Empire Earth's huge scope and scale. Nowadays that just feels like a chore.
I know of this game's existence only by finding it by chance when browsing strategy games on GOG. Haven't played it yet (maybe never will) but this video gives me serious nostalgia for the 1st empire earth. Glad they kept the B-movie feel of the campaigns and the ridiculous voice-acting. Cheese age more gracefully than seriousness for old strategy games IMO. And having to rush because of cheating AI is exactly why I rarely play more than a dozen skirmish maps after I finish the campaigns of RTSes in general.
I really love this game for all eternity - campaign and everything alike.
Are you able to go more into the scenario editor like specifically the triggers section.
I’m unable to figure out how to work and effect and trigger rotting corpse forever like they use in campaign when units are killed on the map and many other advance awesome effects.
I can’t tell you how many hours teen ages me put into this game. I enjoyed the video !
Never eard about this game, which is really strange, since i played all the empire earth games. I assume it's not very known. I would like to play it after yourvideo, but i would just get into skirmish, advanced to the last age, research everything, build everything and then just never turned it on...
Great video btw.
This game pretty much learned me Korean history.
I looooved this game. Id always spam the machine gun nest that you got from playing as America.
My dad plays only this all the time.. for 20 years.
All those boats man, I haven't laughed so hard in ages. I loved empire earth as a kid and even played rise and fall, but I only just found this game today. Can't wait to play it.
Definetly do! It's a great game and it hold up pretty well!
According to the vid, I did well for someone who isn't fantastic at RTS. I My military massively exceeded the other comp players. I built a massive navy. My current strategy is to distract their nagy/exhaust production of anti ship vessels by swamping their shore with fishing boats. The best thing about this game is the Priests' magick.
Great Video! Greetings from Germany
I have a different view. I really enjoyed the campaigns; most favourite were Patton and Yi. The English campaign was "alright", but not my favourite. I found these campaigns could be fairly challenging and some were better than Empire Earth missions. I understand regular multiplayer appeals to you much more. If I am honest, what I would love to see is a multiplayer scenario campaign where you complete the tasks and objects with another human player.
graphics as good as AOE4 and its 18 years old!
Criminally underrated channel.
Keep going and don't stop!
I loved the campaigns
Does the multiplayer work in this game? Was thinking getting this and maybe play with friend against AI.
tried to download and play the game on GOG and didn't even start after doing multiple guides online fixing it, great...
Here I was thinking that this game was going for a more grounded and realistic vibe until I learned that Russia can summon a literal Tunguska-tier meteorite on the enemy as a super weapon 😂😂😂
I miss this game a lots, can't find it at steams....
Would absolutely love to play this game again... shame it isn't available on Steam :c
You can get it on GOG tho!
I find it hilarious how he uses some of the Rise of Nations soundtrack for his background to this video XD
Best background music ever
I've been trying to reinstall this on linux for a year now
this was the best game ever haha
AoM soundtrack in Empires review OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :)
Best Empire Earth game. For me it's too much better than Empire Earth 1, 2 or 3.
Actually, Henry V and Korea are 100% historically accurate. Their lives were crazier than fiction.
bro what.. no stone and prehistoric ages!? but that was the coolest way to start!
Also sidenote I used to love nuking or bombing my teammates AI islands.
Best rts game.
anybody managed to get the screen size to 1920 x 1080?
Yes, you need to edit the registry, its fairly easy
hello is it possible to set it in HD?
Why did they never make a sequel to this?
This is what Empire Earth 2 should have looked like but expanding on Empire I
Which is better?
Empire Earth, Empire Earth II or Empires Dawn of Modern World?
I spent so much time just messing about in this game, roleplaying with my 8 year old brain and generally not knowing what I was doing but having lots of fun nontheless
Loved playing 3 vs 3 islands pvp battles. You needed the english, german and american wonders up to really play.
English wonder to see the entire map.German wonder for incase all gold mines are used up, that german player can give his allies gold. And americans simply because nukes and para troops.
I remember the top player liked the french and going full planes and bombers. Apparently the french units and buildings could heal themselves, so he was hard to take down conventionally.
it could be great if you make an Empires Earth review
Definitely in the list, along with EE2
hah a successor to a successor!
I play the game on GOG and use game ranger to play online, but man do I suck at this. I can beat the pc on lv 5 except for Germany.
yea a few years back i also played on game ranger , great game ahead of its time
Please tell me how you got this to work on windows 11
I didn't, I still got Win 10
Well if you get windows 11 please let me know

What game is closest to this
I played this and tons of other rts titles like this. Maybe the biggest difference is that now i understand English and voice acting sounds too silly.
Best Age of Empires rip off ever, I wish Age of empires would do a game with modern ages
so im not haveing bad skill the ai DO CHEAT!
Эта игра и правда очень классная
Lack of civilizations and terrain types make this game feel lobsided and uneven to me. And it's strange that a game which largely centers around World War 2 has Korea in it but not Japan. And no China in the world war ages. Like, what the heck?
saddened by the fact that Empire Earth doesn't run on Windows 10 :(
it does work
@@pepefrog1496 yeah miraculously it starts working now. I've been playing it of late and absolutely loving it ❤️
Btw i troubleshot compatibility and then made some changes in the video rendering.
What worked for you? I made same changes in my brother's game but it doesn't work smoothly. Gets stuck, press wind + D and starts working again... shows a weird behavior... What could be the problem?
Anyone else use the "noob" cheat code? Im ashamed to say I did lol
Bro, I’ll be playing a Match against AI, then just be like nah I’m bored. Enter “Noob” then just go crazy
The AI cheats in Empire Earth way more.
Damn, I hate to hear you say you hate or dislike all the campaigns. To me they were a vastly improvement over Empire Earth. I liked how some mission were like a small RPG.
the art style was much better in Empire EARTH 1.I really didnt like the cartoonish art style in Empires Dawn of the modern world , and also animations were bad
I AM LOVE SPAM THOUSAND CONSCRIPT WITH CHEAT WHILE PLAY FIGHT 6 PLAYER GERMAN
SAD MANY OF THEM DIE BECAUSE EXPLOSION AND POISON GAS...😂😂😂
Its was a simply empire earth
its not fun as it sounds". Well it doesn't sound fun either lol
