That depends. Oh, what you want to know. Are you a Pureaten or a Radical? The sum of the lore originally was fan theory. BlackRage Sanguinius's theory, for example 🤔 or more in Lore, like world building "Imperial infrigerate handbook"? Or are you trying to find books and or videos?
Read the 2nd and 3rd edition rulebooks. 40k is not one central main story with a few smaller side stories, it is a setting. It's a foundationally different way to look at things. Building a world instead of setting up and finishing a single task like most other "things" in media.
From what we know.... Custodes are active. All of them. The only custodes that remain stoic in place, are literal sentries. It is expected these MEN can operate at 99.99990, but never 99.000%.
A single perceived %... Anything close to a single digit drop in performance dictates that custodes relinquish what ever position he hold at that moment immediately and immediately begins either re/training, rests, or goes on mission for the emperor for example introducing primaris to new chapters, these custodes at 99%, can easily 1 vs just about anything he'd encounter. The odds would only get better the longer battle goes on as squads will tire in rotation before a custodes loses his first wind. Every single custodes is a main character.

And yet, many of the Custodes around The Emperor cracked like eggs on concrete in mere moments when Chaos focused upon them during the Emperor's visit to Horus's flagship in the last part of the Horus Heresy, causing the Emperor to have to slay them. Which is why Chaos is so Anathema to mankind. Anyway .. Only in Death does Duty end.

And IIRC, just half was controlled (not corrupted). Many of the rest were just frozen (unable to move to prevent Chaos from controlling them).

Custodies aside from the orks the only others to be having a good time. The duty to US seems terrible, but that's what gets a custodies off. Him exuding perfection and service all the time is what they like to do.

For a Custodian, we are probs talking running speeds upwards of 80 km ph as well (iirc SMs run around 60km/ph)

Yep they go all the way back to rogue trader in 1987 but they have not always been a playable army rogue trader was a ttrpg like dnd originally.

The lister of names should brush up on their mythology. A custodes probably wouldn't want the name Ixion or Priapus, for example

This is what I'm talking about: the custodians aren't the ideal of humanity, just as the Primarchs, Space Marines, nor the Emperor himself. They are an extreme of an extreme version of humanity, that which is so far removed that they can't really be said to be human. I dare say the Custards are the least like humanity as they aren't even given the breadth to fall to corruption like everyone else, even the Emperor (Dark King is him falling to his own corruption).
The thing which defines all of the "super" human demi-gods produced by humanity is duty, which is just one aspect of humanity. They are closer to a servitor then a normal person. A normal person knows what it is to be in love, to have free time, to be indecisive, second guessing themselves, feeling fear, decide to do something on the spur of the moment, and so much more. I'd honestly rather be dead then spend every second of every day being productive to the microsecond. They don't have any truly personal relationship with anyone outside of their order, and even then, they would probably not even hesitate to kill one of their brothers (and sisters now I guess :/) if they were a threat, if it weren't for the fact said Custodian would probably kill themselves before that could even happen.
I'd say the perpetuals were the ideals as they had vast differences in opinions as well as experiences and didn't adhere to duty till death. They lived for thousands to tens of thousands of years and lived through most of human history. They saw it all and almost all of them abandoned the Emperor. The Emperor was probably right with his way of doing things, but I bet the other perpetuals saw his ideal humanity and rejected it
So what your saying. Is they are boring cone heads who are exactly what they seem to be. There's not alot more to them than being stuck up sentry guns with way too high of a ego and too much power.
