Thanks for the great and informative video! I just bought a 26000 GVW Little Peterbilt with a 12 foot dump body and have tons of work for it. There is certainly a ninch market here for 7-8 yard loads where a pickup just won't cut it and a full size dump is overkill. This was great to know on how to be respectful and not be the idiot driving around a Quarry lost and not knowing how things work. Didn't know about the CB so definitely getting that installed. Really good to know to back in on the LEFT so I'm not cutting in line. Great Video!

@@WorldsOkayestFarmer Thanks! It's a Peterbilt model 330 with a 12 foot dump body. Truck and body weigh 13500 so I can haul a little over 6 ton. My main reason for keeping under at 26000 was for NON CDL. Hauling a lot of Decorative Rock, Decorative Bark and materials that are decorative for landscapes and yards. Seem to be able to charge and make a lot more money when hauling higher quality materials. I have plenty of work to not have to fight for lower paying loads such as Top Soil. Just not worth my time considering the cost of a Peterbilt and Dump Body. I've lucked out and pretty much gotten most of my business from high end Landscapers doing large home estates and price really isn't an issue. I'm working on getting a trailer like yours and I do have many of my contractors needing tops soil and fill. Keep up the great videos!

As a scale lady..ALWAYS stop at the scale house..scale operator needs to know who is in the pit. Don't get out of your vehicle when you're in the pit, if you need something signal the loader or go back to the scale house if you don't have a radio, the big equipment operators can't see you and most of them will not have radios. And yes, check your trailers and tires before you go. I can't count how many trailer tires have blown because the tires are old and worn. If you do have a radio, don't tell your life story on it...too much important info to be said in the pit.

I do contract work at several quarries. I’ve seen as two scales running and trucks lined 10 deep to get weights. At most I work at now you have to tarp all loads in a designated area. A hard hat and vest are a good idea to have. Like the man said “Don’t get out of the truck on the yard”. This can get you banned at some places. It’s changed a lot in recent years. Now quarry pickups may carry flags and strobe lights. Good vid 👍

Always double and triple check that your dogs on a manual release dump gate are fully locked. If not you’ll get laughed at 😂 I was 18 or 19 the first time I hauled from a place like that and I was in a single axle dump truck, I forgot to put the ring over the dog handle and it had moved when I was driving there, releasing them, long story short the loader operator dumped about a ton in then the gate crept open and it started pouring out. I had to dump what was in there and try again. Luckily they were slow that day and we all laughed about it lol

As a Scale Man that does 17k tons on average a day I can tell you that I don’t care who is in the yard. As long as they aren’t dumbasses, know their job info, and don’t try and small talk me, all is good. I hate my job and my mental health as been depleted having to deal with drivers and lingo 65 hours a week. If anybody is reading this and want to get a job as a scale man DON’T. You will hate it and start to hate life. Very toxic workplace. I wouldn’t wish this occupation on my worst enemy. If you want to see somebody hit rock bottom, (no pun intended), throw them in a scale house with nobody knowing what they are doing, your printers outside run out of paper, and somebody is on the phone wanting to order a measly 15 tons of rock acting like they are a big shot ordering Mount Everest. All of the sexist jokes, unfunny comments, and copious amounts of bad breath has made me despise humanity.

Love the Douche nozzle on back. Looks like some shit my kid would have 😆 BTW from someone who works a scale house this is a very good video for people to watch. During road work season (as a Canadian we only have construction season and winter) it can be very frustrating when you got a guy in a little truck bobbing around back there and ya know he means we'll but he just doesn't know the rules. Only thing I would add is you should have a radio but stay off it unless you are very familiar with the place you can cause "traffic jams" there too and most loader operators don't want a chatty Cathy in the pit.
