2008 MRE Vomelet Review (Veggie Omelet) One of the Worst Meal Ready To Eat Menus Taste Test

- What is the worst MRE ever made? Veggie Omelet, or "The Vomelet" could arguably be at the top of the list. Produced for only 4 years, this notorious menu was the one you didn't want to be unlucky enough to draw from the case.. because if you did, chances are you were going hungry. Most fun I've had with a review all year, I hope you all enjoy it even half as much as I did making this one. Back to old/rare/expensive rations on the next two videos coming right up after this one.

I'LL BE COMING BACK AT YOU WITH SOMETHING NEW OR OLD, ALRIGHT COOL SEE YA™ - Zábava
When the guy who ate 120 year old beef from the Boer War says this vomelette is bad, believe him.
Too bad he couldn't break out the Civil War hard tack to kill the taste.
Don’t forget the 1863 cracker from the civil war 😂
The vomelette is worse than all. I ate it a total of 3 times and came close to puking every time.
@@harley4230 This has to be the most well earned reputation of "garbage" ever perfectly labeled as the vomelette, it's almost to perfect, as if the military said to one of the ceo's of the producers of mre's, "If it's not too much to ask, could make one really disgusting meal that has the potential to make the perfect nickname to match it's taste?" CEO :" Sure no problem, it'll cost more tax payer money to make it extra shitty, but we can deffiantly do that" Top Brass: "No problem, here's 10K on top of what you were thinking, just make it happen." And that's how the vomelette was born.
I mean, the water has been removed right? So its note xactly like the meat could go bad
You know it's bad when it's being criticized by a man that routinely eats things that are dubiously edible.
So true lol
When the ration is worse than the Boer War Meat, the ration needs rethinking. Or to be burned, one of the two.
kingofthings7929 or both. Burned then re-thought
he still eats itttttttttttttt
Dubious is an understatement
The fact that he called the flavor of the coffee “demoralizing,” earns major points with me.
Can you imagine being s chef and someone leaves a review with the word "demoralizing" in it? That was up there with "... and my day is ruined."
Well, it is French.
It's pretty good when you add the actual coffee packet to it.

i can drink any coffee just as long as theres milk or cream to add. how bad can it be?

Steve has the most range of emotions in this episode than any other. You see heartbreak and loss, triumph and courage, then tragedy and defeat.

*Keeps eating it as if he had just been rescued from a death camp.*
I can respect someone with the principle not to waste food.
That's how we know that this man will never starve to death under any circumstance.
That's half the reason we all love watching his videos. The noises he makes while eating something disgusting. Lol
He’ll get lost while hiking with a friend and post a review whenever he gets rescued going:
“I got my friend out on a tray. Nice, mkay. Let me start with his arm. it’s a bit chewy, but the taste is not bad. Would be nice if it was cooked through, but that’s what we’re going to get.”
Fucking dark, man ;_;
I have been a soldier since 2008 and I had the discomfort of having the vomlet during a training op at NTC and I got to say, the taste and misery that followed is still one of the highlights of my military career. The weird vianna sausage taste and churning in your stomach that followed is something I will never forget. I'm glad it's gone, but I often miss the dare we would give to younger soldiers to try the damn thing.

You can't just waste food, even if it's gross. Besides, he's eaten lots of rotten food, why not actually edible food?
The salsa looked worse than the vomlette. It was like a pouch of pond water. Steve, you’re a brave guy.
That's pretty much what salsa verde looks like.
@@iunnox666 no it is NOT!! the consistency was actually intimidating! it was like encountering a 2d person walking and talking in the 4d world. you can't possibly make a salsa verde that looks like that if you're using tomatillos because of all the pectin. whatever that was, the only thing it had in common with salsa verde is the name.
I ate one of these this morning and the salsa made it worse. Watery, too acidic, not good at all. It was well-preserved too.
@@ditch_magnet Gosh, it's almost like it's intended to be shelf stable for a very long time! Absolutely BONKERS that it's not 100% exactly like the "real" thing for MREs, you should send the army a letter and request fresh salsa verde.
@@BunnyArisu Gee, i sure wonder if everything made to be shelf stable is equally worth eating or if maybe certain ones are, i don't know, an abomination and an affront to God. I sure hope someone makes a channel dedicated to answering that question.

I remember reading a comment under another video from someone that claimed their dad was part of the group that originally was working on making the MRE’s, and finding what could and couldn’t be used for it.
Apparently he found out about the vomlette and said “wtf they tried that again? We left explicit notes stating to not use eggs in MREs.”
Im pretty sure its either this video or the omelette with salsa from the canadian IMPs. Like, Im confident I seen that story in one of Steve1989’s videos.

I ate this meal alot in Iraq. Personally I didn't mind it too much. But Steve is right, you need to add the salt and the salsa.. Usually I would save my coffee off a diffrent accessory packet and add it to the vanilla cappuccino. It really helps cut the ungodly vanilla flavor.
You know Steve is drawing out the Vomlette reveal when he’s opening the wet nap.

Of all the truly sketchy things I have seen Steve dig into without a moment's hesitation, I actually think he looked worried before he tasted that vomlet.
You could see him analyzing his life choices at that hesitation.

This brings back memories. I once had this particular MRE meal when I was in Army BCT. That "omelet" was the worst part of the whole meal. The texture was just totally wrong, and it tasted kinda bland before I added salt, which made it overpoweringly salty in taste. The rest of the items weren't nearly as bad, but still not exactly great either. Fortunately, every other MRE I had during my eight years of service were much better and actually quite enjoyable (assuming I got the time to actually eat everything, which was often but not always).

I'm a native Californian who just happened to live in Southern Mississippi from 2000-2011. So I went through Katrina. This MRE in the video is the closest MRE I had during that horrible time. Do you have any of those MREs? They were actually ok, except for those veggie omelets! I took one bite and that was it. I was pretty much sick the rest of the day!!! The one thing I do remember about the MREs, they always had a bag of M&M's in them. All different types!!! The really cool thing too was there was always a mini bottle of Tabasco sauce in each MRE! The pasta dishes were always really good and the coffee was amazing! After the hurricane was over and life went back to semi-normal, my husband and I sat down and sorted through all the MREs we had. (probably about 40) We separated everything into groups of entrees, breads, crackers, desserts and beverages. We then threw all the accessories into a drawer. Those accessories lasted us for at least 5 years!!! Just really curious if you have ever had a MRE from Katrina.
I’ve been in for 13 years and had no idea you could add salt to the heater to make it work better. What a hero.

Steve finished his meal though it was bad. Also wore a clean plate club tshirt. But honestly, thumbs up for him for always cleaning his plate. He respects food.
"...demoralising, French Vanilla flavour". Got me chuckling.
“There was a rumor that someone once used the beverage bag... It’s just a rumor though.” I thought u were gonna say he died or something
Me too. I thought he was going to say something like "The bag melted in his hands and burned him" :P
I literally laughed out loud when he said that. I’ve heard that kinda joke before lol
I saw people using them to store their phones or mp3 players
I died waiting for the punchline
absolutely!!!!! keep your phone dry - and the touch screen still works through the bag
12:11 the look of concern from the eyes that had eaten 1945 food bars.
Dude ate a 1863 civil war ration...
@@grimmerjxcts2206 to be fair 99.9 percent of people probly wouldnt eat any of these any amount of years old mres that he eats
@@gcart5619 not to mention that he’ll finish it too as long as it isn’t straight up dangerous
@@oliviamontemayer7089 ah...
The force by which he rips the spoon out, followed by the dainty stir... priceless
I love the waterfall background soundscape.
When I was in the army, they use to leave boxes of MRE's out in the field so you can just grab your lunch and go. And after a while, there would be nothing left except for Veggie omelet, because every soldier looks to see what they got and they throw back the ones they don't like back in the box. Soldiers would rather starve as the Veggie Omelet MRE's were just left sitting in the boxes
heh, I was in the FDF, and out of like 10 different menus, 1 was edible, beef goulash, the rest were just horrendous, so I smuggled in a bunch of cheap instant noodles which with some ketchup were 1000 times better than what we were given. The thing is I wouldn't have eaten them even if I didn't have an alternative, that is how bad they were.
Sheeit, it must be that bad
I recall having to walk/run over 18 miles in 1 day, and all they had left was the Vomelet. Even after all of that and not eating anything else all day, the smell of the omelet and the texture prevented me from swallowing any part of it. I did eat everything else though.
Can’t blame them. No one desires eating a sponge. It’s rep does not help either.
To all you guys saying you would have never eaten it and would rather go hungry you’ve never been truly hungry.
I was unfortunate enough to draw a cheese and veggie omelette MRE almost every day for like two weeks. This was back when they still had Tabasco instead of that salsa verde. Just pour in the entire thing of Tabasco and it tasted almost somewhat nearly tolerable.
I actually did use a hot beverage bag once, but it was more trouble than it was really worth and I never bothered again. The bags are pretty good for putting your phone in, though.
Fuck yeah. Tabasco made that shit tolerable.
The only person to use the hot beverage bag
I think someone had it out for you mate
Must have pissed someone off....
Bro.... I made people give me their omelet.... I LOVE them.
I remember having that in boot camp, it was my favorite one, I loved the scones
There was a blueberry crunchy cereal in the IMPs as far back as I can remember, 1981 onwards, it was the basic crunchy cereal with blueberries added, although the MRE version has a lot more blueberries in it. Always better using hot water.
Those farts five hours later must've peeled paint.
You have no idea. After a week of chili mac, beef taco, and a vomelet or two, you can gas the enemy
Legend
🤣🤣🤣
Reel Fishing No one eats more than one vomlet. It's just a "Here, you throw this away" moment when you get handed a second one.
Thank you, I laughed so hard at this comment and you deserve every thumbs-up you get for it.
I knew a guy that loved this MRE. We'd fill left-over-boxes with them, and he'd eat every one. Also, on really cold watch nights, I'd raid the MRE pile for the heating elements to stuff under my arms. Good review.
Edit: Wrote this before I finish the video. It's great you mentioned the "one guy".
Hate to call you a dick but raiding the heaters when it's cold is a 100% dick move. I rarely heat MREs but if it's under a certain temperature I'm heating up that meat popsicle.
It probably was a dick move. But I only did it on training exercises, mainly Fort Hunter Liggett. If you been there you'd know. Plus there were plenty of MREs lying around, so it probably just annoyed a few folks.
You can use pages from newspapers under your uniform to stay warm, really works :)
What a waste.....screw warming up....slip them puppies under Lt's HMMWV tire and run.....wait for the "BOOM....YOU MOTHERFU****S!!!!!!!"
More of a dick move than killing brown children in cold blood? I'm sure that "just annoyed" a few folks!
I admire this man’s dedication to not wasting food.
I believe this is the first time I’ve seen Steve with a truly terrified look on his face. 😂😂oh my gosh. I’m crying.
Oh yea it was awful... I had it basic training, in AIT, and the field...
You could never trade it, but if you were fat in basic, it wasnt a big deal...just you'd be real run down from training and no good meal. Man it feels like yesterday for me...
Worst MRE hands down!
ProtoMario Never knew you did military service! Nice.
Probably not the worst for all time but definitely for the decade
Right???
But PROOOOTOOOOO you need to eat healthy to grow up to be a big and strong soldier!
pukalo [CDN] actually a lot of protein and vitamin's would be fine
17:47 the cheerful "ok" as a coping mechanism
The way he keeps it professional and still eats that nasty food is excellent content
I admire your courage
