- Menu #22 Beef Goulash is the newest US MRE menu for 2019. This is a delicious new menu with no needed items like crackers or hot sauce added to it for improved taste & texture. A very classic style menu lineup, with sides that do well as individual stand alone items and not aiming at the more modern MRE approach of mixing multiple components together. An excellent upgrade to the previous year's Menu #22 - Asian Style Beef Strips w/ Vegetables. Which we take a look at that menu in this review at well right around the 12 minute mark. So stay tuned for that inside of this review as well - and see how this 2019 menu #22 is an absolute upgrade from the previous year's.

Howdy Folks! Hope you've all been doing well this Summer! It's great to finally be back with some new videos. Today we have this 2019 MRE Beef Goulash and also a 1990 Yugoslavian Pilot Ration and tomorrow will be the release date on a new 24 hour ration review.
Release dates got pushed back a little because of my largest project in development yet. A feature length video containing mulitple rations from over the span of 100 years. It will be over 2 hours long in run time, and currently it is about 2/3rds complete. So stay tuned for that!
As for this Beef Goulash, it's an upgrade from the previous year's Asian Style Beef Strips, and instead of just showing the Goulash, I went ahead and briefly reviewed that Asian Style Beef Strips in a condensed time, skipping the unpacking and tray-up formalities, keeping this video at a more standard single meal ration's run-time.

I've eaten my share of C Rations 50 years ago. Out of curiosity I ate a modern day MRE. There wasn't enough food in the main course. Reminded me of a snack rather than a meal. The only drawback with the old C Rations was the weight, but all things considered I'd prefer the C Rations. Ham & eggs, pork and noodles, sliced ham were my favorites, plus whatever nobody else wanted to eat.

In fact I went on the search engine to check out about what could VB6 taste be. The only answer is: bitter. Extremely bitter. How did he managed to understand its presence. Maybe because the cocoa is a little bit bitter?

When I did my time in the military it was a treat for me to get dehydrated coffee with my coca and mix them together. Additional there were guys in my unit that would fight over the pound cake and peaches.

I heard from a cousin that does fight can easily become more intense and violent than a bar brawl given the right circumstances

IMHO, every MRE should contain _both_ coffee and tea. Too many people enjoy it, and it's great for giving a little comfort to those who are deployed.
In French rations there's always 2 coffees and 2 teas. Then again, they are 24 hours rations.

Just ate this ration myself. I was pleasantly surprised. Smells and tastes wonderful. I wasn't huge on the tomatoes in there though so I picked out the large chunks and tossed them to the side. The beef tasted great as well, not the usual MRE Mystery Meat you usually find.
I had two uncles who served during WW2, and my son has been in the military for quite a few years, Iraq, Haiti, etc, I have always loved your videos, and the respectful way you honour their journeys, keep on keepin on Steve, all my love to you, and stay safe from this hurricane!
My roommate and I call the wheat snack bread "Bread shaped bread". Oddly enough it's great for when you're hammered drunk and want to stop a hang over. Highly prized in our household.

It's a sad day with no coffee
I have to say growing up my dad would sometimes give me and my brothers MREs on camping trips whenever he had too much, or when he bought from the commissary, and I’ve always been fond of the bread that came with some of the meals even with the bitter after taste, I still find it so delicious and it brings back good memories.
My dad found a box of the 2019 series of MREs after doing a demo job for an army base, and this was one of those. Really solid MRE
