He could provide such great insights for them. It's one thing to have focus groups and whatnot, but this man has probably tasted everything they currently produce for US MREs, his feedback would be invaluable.

Dude, I would have those Hashbrowns with Bacon almost every morning while deployed to "Undisclosed location in REDACTED". I'd mix the gross coffee into the granola cereal, hardly taste it and it was a pick me up. Really brought my mood up. If I got lucky, I had the Sausage Peppers on the road, the trail mix really helped on those long days.

When I served, our supply room had an abundance of MREs. Our supply sergeant used to give us boxes or MREs to take home.
You had a good guy there - giving them to his fellow grunts. Many would have sold them on the black market.

After hurricane Katrina near the east coast in NC. We were still recovering from it and were supplied with MREs which really helped. My favorite was the cheese potato scallops one. Everything in it was fantastic.

I’m Chinese and I have had the full range of Chinese milk rations. I thought they were quite good. A specific type that’s pretty similar to mres actually was my only food source for a month some time ago. Now i came to Europe and tried this menu, sausage with onions. It absolutely blew me away. Absolutely night and day compared to what I had before. First thing that I thought of after I had eaten it was “no wonder the Americans are gonna kick our ass if we ever go to war”.

I stifled my laughter thru about 15 "tangs"...but when my uncle aggressively said "I prolly had hot tang before you were even born!" myself and my cousin's girlfriend lost it. Then everyone else, including my 80 year old grandma were belly laughing. 😂 Been a long running joke ever since.

I bought some just to not have to go to Walmart, now I'm hooked. Just order a crap ton and all my meals are prepared.
I'm currently in the US Army and while in an FTX last week I had this MRE for the first time. However it now comes with beef jerky trail mix instead. I wasn't a fan of that but the sausage was honestly one of the best MRE I ever had.
I'd love to be able to get that kind of things as a civilian.

I’m in the Marines and my unit still has yet to see this sausage one. I still firmly believe the hash brown one is on the highest tier of MREs and going to be hard to beat. I’ll edit this post in about ten years when I finally get the chance to try it.

My brother's a drill, 3 tours. He showed me an mre, it was the hash brown menu. The texture of the potatoes is revolting. The blueberry granola was pretty good though. He said it was one of his favorites.

I, too, am recovering from a surgery, at home now. I find these videos very educational, but also very relaxing. When I was in the Air Force, I had the occasional MRE, but working on the flight line, we usually were given something called a “box lunch.” Served the same purpose as an MRE, but not meant to keep for any period of time-regular sandwiches and such. I can understand the desire to omit dessert items, but it is a bit cruel to deprive the guys who actually need field rations because the rest of the Army in the rear is getting fat. M&Ms or a pound cake are a morale booster.

My favorite MRE so far is the menu 20 hashbrown potatoes and peppers.. I had the peppers and onions and potatoes when our power went out for a week in Oregon during an ice storm and it was so delicious

Back when I was in the US Marines 1989. MRE's came with a tiny bottle of Tabasco sauce. Now that was adding flavor to your Field Rations👍🏾
They should have kept using those little bottles of Tabasco. The hot sauce they have in there now in little packets tastes like turpentine.
I saw 10 of those bottles sold on eBay 5 years ago for like $18. I thought wth? You can have a big bottle for $3.

I’m not ok with aspartame so I wouldn’t drink the orange drink. But everything else looks good I have a box of 2019 mre meals menu 12-24. Two thumbs up for eating all these and staying alive. Your videos are amazing and incredibly addictive and satisfying.
I get a pang of nostalgia whenever those MRE crackers come out. My grandpa was in forestry and his sector was supplied by army surplus, he'd get to bring home the MREs that were getting old and would always give me the crackers and peanut butter or cheese

He's been doing it for years too. If you are into this sort of stuff, look up the first few Mortiis albums, ie everything before The Smell of Rain. Which is a fine album itself, but Mortiis went in a more goth/industrial direction after that. Everything before that is pure ambient dungeon synth music.

I was actually thinking Steve is the only one who's doing this quite simple (sound wise) midi synth formula, but then like a year ago I discovered that Dungeon synth exists, and hundreds of people are doing a very similar thing. Still want HIS album tho, love his compositions.
As an italian who's grandma made peppers and onions regularly, I am deeply offended by putting cheese spread in it.
On the other hand, as a vet, I totally get it and would probably do it too after a couple weeks in the field.
I'd venture a guess that your grandmas peppers and onions were in a different universe of quality and taste though! My grandma could barely cook unfortunately.

I like this guy's videos. No matter what he's eating he always says it's "exceptional" and "delicious". I think his taste buds are playing a trick on him.

Most if not all food service is like that, we're just used to it being rebranded on the consumer side ("McRib" for example). The government is like f it, they get what they get.

Man... Steve! Every time I watch your channel... It forces me to order another case of MREs! A lot of people can call me nuts... But I think I enjoy these things as much as you do, if not more. I got out of the US Army April 4th 2003. I don't know if it is nostalgia or I actually loved the food? But man your channel increases my MRE addiction.
Spent 18 months in Army Intel learning Arabic, ate many an MRE. Thanks for some nostalgia. ☕
