  • This Australian Patrol Ration 1 Man is a 24 Hour MRE used by ADF Special Forces and recon teams on LRRP missions. The mains are freeze dried and other components switched out for lighter ones reducing the weight to 2 1/2 lbs. And with minimal reduction in caloric content. Amazingly fresh food, yet seriously lacking closure devices to those main's pouches. No gusset, no problem.

It’s crazy because in comparison some of the US meals were prepared like someone not from the US was doing their best to figure out what foods Americans usually eat together.
I don’t understand why they’d pair up some of the items that they do. Nobody eats like that….
But here, Australia’s meals have things that seem to go together AND there are Aussies co-signing these meals.
Idk how much louder the US government needs to shout that they don’t give a flip about its citizens, even the ones dying for it.

@HoneyBunnyBOM To be fair.... American "cuisine" is both crazy regional AND each distinct type bleeds and fuzes into each other depending on where your parents moved from and what cookbooks were popular in your area.
I think the idea was everyone could either trade for favorites, or at least pick out something they liked from the least favorite options.

It's way more salty and way less beefy than beef cubes. Very much an umami flavour. As to why? Dunno, it's an Australian thing. Every Aussie kid is raised on Vegemite on toast for breakfast and always a Vegemite sandwich in your lunch box at school. It's definitely an acquired taste but on toast with a good spread of butter, there's nothing like it for an amazingly savoury and sweet (from the butter) boost to the day, packed with vitamins and minerals. My favourite breakfast is Vegemite on toast with a glass of fresh orange juice. Fantastic.

Wow, a very informative and interesting film clip. The MRE's are completely different to what we had in the 1980's and 90's. For a start we called them ration packs not MRE's and we didn't have all those nice things in them like in today's packs. I remember being in the echolne area one time and have a little spare time on my hands and whipped up a pretty rudimentary cheese cake with my short bread buiscuts, tin of cheese and tube jam and condensed milk. When I said I was having cheese cake for dessert to my fellow soldiers they all I was kidding. Little did they know, with a little imagination and a few spare minutes. Wulla. Bush style cheese cake, boy was I the envy of everyone else. 🤔😝😝😝😝😝

There's so many random ingredients and options in modern combat rations, you can make all sorts of crazy recipes. Jerky bar in between bread makes a steak sandwich. You can use the cheese to make fondue, cheesecake, nachos, etc (my personal favourite was melting it into the soup). If you can scrounge some margarine or butter and don't mind scorching the bottom of your cups/canteen, you can fry fritters out of the mashed potatoes and fruit.
I had my 21st while deployed to the Solomon Islands; the PNGDF troops I was with took the sugar, smarties, and chocolate out of their ration packs, and got some local village ladies to bake me a pretty sweet birthday cake

Ahh the poor guys who spent so much time an effort designing this as a meal for the soldiers finding out how it was actually eaten...

We're very lucky in Australia for food and beverages.
We get our good quality tea from the English, our awesome quality coffee from the Greek & Italian/Australian cafe culture and a huge variety of awesome food from our SE Asian/Australian friends 👍😆
PS: We totally miss out on Mexican food though ☹️

@@AXLDark I can always use a good website to get these. I have found some sites won’t ship international because of the matches but then others ship it anyway.
