I love the Piano Marvel system. it is working for me so far and I am working on the level 3c books currently. the key is daily practice and a gentle progression in difficulty.

Ok ... this time I'm going to post usign my personal account. So ... been wanting to pick up learning piano for ages, but I just didn't get to it. Since I had no keyboard / piano at home, that was my best excuse. Couple of weeks ago I decided it was enough, and I wanted to learn how to play piano before the age of 50 (1 year to go) and I went out and bought a synthesizer and started 10 days ago. So ... i'm a complete beginner, but you are part of my motivation to finally get started. Posted some practice videos on my channel. Nothing special yet since I still have everything to learn. Thanks for putting out your content and I hope to see more of it.

Great video Christine. I have been using PM for a few months and see straight away when you feel a bit like an "idiot" ;o) Personally I find the timing a little too strict as I am convinced I am only milliseconds out sometimes and it trashes me. But as the apps go It's my favorite so far. I am thinking of starting my own channel just to show my progress, joys, and frustrations with it and share the experience with others and you have inspired me. keep up the good work.

I decided to subscribe to Piano Marvel. I took class piano in college which I hated. Years later I took Suzuki piano for 5 months... I did book 1 in 4 months. My instructor moved so I was without until I found someone else who told me my previous did not follow Suzuki protocol because she did not make me memorize the exercises....guess that was why I got through the book so quick. Anyhow I had memory issues- I found out later that it was the amount of stress I was under that created that issue. So, mo piano for a few years but, I still want to learn. It is sad- I want to learn but, now I cannot find a decent teacher. So, i figured I could get caught up enough with this and maybe I could find an instructor. I am 59 and I want to play in a piano bar or play Christmas songs in a mall or at a store. Something relaxing that others would enjoy. I will pursue this. For the SASR- My first score was 450 but, if you mess one piece up it drops a lot. I am not on 439.... higher than the late beginner score but, lower than the 3rd level. Songs are easy- I knew I was a beginner so I was would skip the practice and take the test-got no lower than a 98. Don't really care about getting a gold- if it were a competition maybe I would. The new version ranks the students. In the method area I am 34,000 out of about 162,000. I guess that is not too bad. I will keep going. I started this about 2 weeks ago- yes , I read music but, I play the clarinet. My fingers do not move in a piano way.

Hi Christine, I also evaluated Piano Marvel, it seems a serious alternative. However, I noticed an issue, the finger numbers are rendered with a very, very small font, and on common 9.7" iPads are difficult to read. If you find a way to enlarge them, please mention it in your future review, it might be useful for many. Thanks!

I've been on Piano Marvel for 2 yrs. I tried other apps, they seem more gamified and seem to have more glitches and don't work as well. PM seems more seious and straight forward-no games. As an atheist, I do hate that much of their repetoire is hymns-I wanna rock!

I found that midi device selection is bugged it shows only a single midi device.. so when i connect my (A)audio device, which also has midi, it doesn’t show the (k)eyboards midi in the midi selection tab. When i disconnect the audio device from my ipad, it shows the keyboard again. Looks like the app is not programmed to support multiple midi devices in its selection list. I cant find a reliable way to connect the developers in the free trial. To buy this app for my kids, this needs to be solved first. Do you know how to contact the developers? An answer is highly appreciated.

I used Piano Marvel a few years ago. I do not remember exactly when. I decided that I would go back to it. I have had bad luck piano teachers and still, I want to learn how to play the piano. I did take from a person who was an excellent piano player but, I do not think she was ready to come down to my level. Sometimes I think that adults do not know how to treat other adults whose main instruments in not piano. Anyhow, after that teacher I did not touch the piano for about 2 yrs. She did not succeed in convincing me that I was not meant for piano. So, I started back- went through the trial period before joining today. I took class piano in college was a real turn off. Those horrible piano were just that, horrible. But, since I was in high school I wanted to learn. Now, after retirement I learning what I want to learn. My level is beyond beginner but, I am not too great with coordination between the two hands. As of this evening I am in the top 5000 in the method area because I have finished 43% and the majority of my scores are 96 and above.I am still on Level 3 and the sings I did this even were not great. I have not practiced any of the songs before testing but, I can see that will be coming soon because I cannot keep my scores up high enough and not practice. I will be going back to fix 5 of the songs in the 3 C tomorrow. I did poorly on those 5 and they brought my rank down. The sight reading is something that is driving me crazy. I have no clue where I should be on that. I have sightread on piano. I do not think I am doing a poorly as I had expected. I never did score as a beginner. I am now working on the second grouping- Levels 2-7. But, again, I have never sightreading on piano. On my own instrument I do pretty well but, on this my fingers get pretty tangled up and do not know where to go. Tonight I score a 497 but, that is not the highest I have scored. On technique another area that I thought I would do poorly with I am ranking higher on than on the method. In this group I am currently in the top 3000. I have no clue how or why that. I normally do the sightreading first each evening, then, the technique, the method and if I am not tires whatever else is available.
I must say that I do not look at the videos much unless i have a question on fingers. The scales are easy and doing the parallel minor scale makes those even easier. I have written in aboust some errors that I felt were on the recording. I have not heard back. Overall - this is so much better than Piano Wizard.

Hey, I have been following your reviews about the different platforms for learning how to play piano. I am going to be a beginner with the intention of learning how to play classical music. Obviously, I want to understand and be able to read the music sheet. I saw that some of these apps try to skip that part and teach you by showing which key to press instead. Do you suggest any particular app for me or books you might have to bought to teach yourself? Thanks! By the way, how do you like piano marvel???

I've watched a lot of videos of Josh Wright on CZcams, and he also made a video of himself playing with this app. So his endorsement means a lot to me. My own problem is that I'm not a beginner, and there is a HUGE difference between advanced and intermediate. So it's hard to get music at the right level of difficulty. You can get it crazy hard, and way too easy, and in both cases it's not good.

You know when you will do a full review on the apps that you’ve used? I tried some and it seems every app has their pros and cons. I can’t seem to choose. I really like SimplyPiano but it’s lacking theory, and that’s probably the reason why I won’t sub to it.
