Horrible adaptation of the book. Denis Villeneuve is trash. Sci-Fi channel is the best.

yeah I heard that sandworm scene not only took like 3 months to shoot. it was also built on a giant sandworm rig. that's why it looks so real when he hooks into it

She's one of my favorites too! She just has such a great dynamic with Tony!
My favorite guests together for my latest and favorite movie. Oh my goodness.
I never read the novel(s) but Part 2 was great.
The slow pacing really built up suspense and tension for me.
And how about Austin Butler's performance!
He was unrecognizable at first and really chewed up the scenery!

Austin Butler and Léa Seydoux have REALLY good chemistry-and I'm not just saying that because I would love to do a romantic scene with Léa Seydoux myself. Haha.
i had an epiphany the other day & it blew my mind. it occurred to me that there’s a line in the Fatboy Slim song “Weapon of Choice” that Christopher Walkin dances in that goes “ if you walk without rhythm you won’t attract the worm.” i then wondered if Walkin was thought of for the emperor as a deep reference to that video?
In my head I like to think this was Denis trolling, but he seems like a pretty serious guy......so idk.
I thought the fighting in the road house trailer looked a little off and I couldn't put my finger on why. Hearing Joe make the comment on cg fighting, well I believe him and that ruined the chance I was gonna give that movie. Dammit Joe lol
I have absolutely no interest in Dune, but I love the chemistry here chatting between Crystal, Joe, and Tony.

Book chani is not a pushover
History remembers her as Paul’s wife, irulan
In the books Paul and chani are together despite Paul marrying irulan. Paul is committed to chani while he doesn’t bed irulan. Their marriage is purely to gain political influence. At the end, chani dies giving childbirth and Paul loses his eyes in an assassination attempt and wander s into the desert similar to fremen traditions after. I do recommend read the books. They are really great.

@theravenking5930 I know that's what the book says, which shows that herbert has a poor understanding of human dynamics. Dune is foundational to sci-fi, but it isn't well written.
@@jasonthomas9319 OK for one dune is called the called the Lord of the rings of sci-fi You don’t get that title if not for being well written. Frank Herbert is very good with human dynamics. From your two comments, A. it seems that are never read the books. B . you read them and forgot most it
@theravenking5930 Use your own mental faculties to analyze the book. Chani is a proud female warrior who accepts being a concubine? Does that sound like a character that makes sense? Or irulan is in the worst position because she won't know pauls touch ? women don't struggle for a mans touch. They just choose another one to sleep with, lol. Herberts writing lacks understanding of basic human dynamics.
Great topic and guests. I absolutely loved dune 2 and have watched it so many times. So happy i discovered your channel. Absolutely hilarious.
There is some super weird criticism coming from Crystal about this film, and it feels like a lot of the narrative stuff and visual storytelling went over her head. The climax of this film was on an epic scale, I don't understand how you can watch it and think any differently. But beyond that, the story isn't about it being this huge drawn out action packed battle. The real climax is very interpersonal and is about the personal drama and politics that are going on. The fate of literal royalty and entire empires is changing before our eyes and hanging in the balance in the emperor's throne room at the finale. That's the actual climax. And it is played WONDERFULLY. And even then, that's only the beginning of the real war. The holy war Jessica speaks of in the ending lines of the film. Crystal keeps talking like she expected some kind of Avengers endgame level battle or something, and that's so not what this story is about, and not where the actual drama comes from. I think this film is a little over her head, God bless her.
Sorry. Had a Dune Day theater date for the 2nd and I knew it was cut into 2 flicks in advance so I waited years to watch both n the Sci-Fi miniseries seemed better to the book. Although I wouldn't mind a Butlaian Jihad series.

You know who should have adapted Dune? Jack Kirby.
Although I still liked these movies overall, I was disappointed in #2. My favorite part of the book (and the earlier movies) is toddler Alia talking like an old lady and killing her grandfather. And one of my favorite parts is how devoted Paul and Chani are to each other (she even kills a challenger of his and becomes a Bene Gesserit). BTW: there’s a blog out there that explains how these changes really remove Chani’s agency more than empower. She’s much more important in the book.
That stuff is explored in the mini series. I was bummed they didn't do it either.
@@HackTheMovies Yeah, all three versions have plusses and minuses. Makes me want to re-read the books I did (1-3) and pick up where I left off years ago.
@ayatollahofrocknrollah188 Ok. It’s been like 20 years since I read it. I googled and got a result that she had, but the wikis appear to confirm that she was trained in Weirding and got protection from them.
there’s a challenger that Paul never saw in any of his visions that just pops up I think because he was like the Bennett Jerrett secret weapon because this guy failed a Kwisatz Haderach

I bought the books that Frank Herbert wrote as a set and read the first one after I saw part 1. haven't read children of dune yet but just looking at the book it's like half as long
I've read all 6 Frank Herbert books. They get weird. Wait till you get to the sex ninjas and cat people in books 5 & 6.

Dune Part 2 was much better than the first film. That being said, they had to dumb a lot of stuff down because the series is so freaking bonkers.
My only other problem with the movie is like they did not draw connection between Liet-Kynes, and Chani, the fact that their mother and daughter
I wasn't crazy about it, felt too long as does all of Denis movies do honestly. They are amazing with providing beautiful visuals just they over do it and don't put enough emphasis on the story and dialogue. Same as "arrival" and "blade runner 2049" beautiful visuals and breath taking, but they seem to be more focused on ambience and vibes rather than story telling and good dialogue.
The characters felt more flat to me, aside from Leto played by Oscar. I found Oscar's version the best. What I would have loved to have seen would be more politics with Oscar and actually showing Paul learn political tactics. I don't know if that's in the books but it would provide more depth when emphasizing his revenge and manipulation to kill the Harkonnens by using political tactics and manipulation with the Fremen.
My Ideal Dune would be a mixture of the visuals from new Dune, the lore of the miniseries and a little creative flare of the lynch version.
That does sound like a really good version of Dune and I do agree Oscar Isaac as Leo is really great. I do like the miniseries Lido.
And my only other problem with the movie is, I don’t really like Zendaya as Chani I like her as MJ, but yeah.
I'm glad I waited to watch part 1 the weekend 2 came out. A fun couple of days and it feels like the two together is the complete movie. Hope they will one day release an extended cut because they cut out the computer dude.

Crystal, you're not supposed to be happy with Paul's character arc at the end honey. That's the point. His story is not that of a traditional hero. He is very much a tragic character, and he becomes the very thing he sought not to become by the end of it. And that is true to the book. So if y'all have an issue with that, be mad at Herbert. The heel turn is very much accurate to his character

Haven't seen it yet but I've heard good things and I do think it did the book justice!
I went and saw it in IMAX, and while the visuals and sound design were amazing, I really didn't think there was anything particularly special about the movie.

I think overall, yes… they changed some details and timeline stuff, some of which I am not the biggest fan of, but others I get and while a little jarring the first time since I read the book, overall, I think was very well done, and enjoyable, and a pretty good adaptation

Dude, part one was a huge, huge hit and made a ton of money when it came out a few years ago, as well as being critically lauded as a masterpiece of cinema. Idk why you're acting so shocked and weirded out that people are loving it and the sequel so much. Denis knocked it out of the park and people are eating it up

I have no idea because I haven't read the book. I can't say that I really cared for this either. I would say that nostalgia for the first one ruined this for me (and that is part of it)... but I think more than anything it just wasn't for me.

Why do people insist on a "director's cut" when the director already delivered his cut?
Extended cut would probably be more appropriate
@@HackTheMovies Yeah I understand, but I think movies should remain a director's medium. It's the director's choice. Usually extended cuts rarely involve any creatives and are a product of the studio trying to make a quick buck
