    I rented this on Apple TV last night and absolutely hated it. Changing the characters elements really didn’t work: Leon an idiot, Irons as a good guy and not working for Umbrella and not a psychopath, Wesker an unwilling mercenary, Chris a fan of Umbrella, Lisa Trevor a good monster who befriends Claire, and Jill a trigger-happy specialist who’s infatuated with Wesker. Feels like another Silent Hill: Revelation; a video game movie adaptation movie fans were excited for, but ended up a complete disappointment.

    One based on the first game only would have been great. But what it was REALLY missing was Tony spliced in like Hack the living dead. “Hey, are you guys STARS members? Did you see those scary dogs out there???”

    I think having Irons mention and listen to Journey is supposed to be because he's an OLDER guy in the late 90's, so when HE was Chris and Wesker's age Journey would've still been pretty big at the time.

    Raccoon City was supposed to be a "small town in the mid-west," so making it a podunk coal mining town is completely reasonable if the movie is based on the original first two games. If you read the old novels by S. D. Perry, she describes the town to be such. It was only in RE3 that they reimagined the town to be much bigger (100,000 casualties from the nuke strike, so said the TV reporter.)

    The reason the turning-around mansion zombie had no lips is because he's supposed to be the zombie from the box art of Resident Evil: Director's Cut for PSX. There's a cover for that version of the game that has that zombie as their artwork instead of the usual cover.

      RE doesn't need to be adapted.....All they need to do is just tell good stories that take place in the universe, they don't need to keep trying to turn the videa gaemz into movies.. IF people want the stories from the games, they can just play the games..
      I've been playing RE since I purchased the first game with MY money after work, not what mom got me for Christmas or what mom rented me from Blockbuster. I don't need to see the video game stories in movie form.....It just needs to be good and entertaining, the video game series that is a homage to B-movies doesn't need to be some deep psychological thriller or Shakespeare.

  • @maiacanti
    @maiacanti Před 2 lety +3

    In order to make a great RE series, the story must focus on a side character. Marvin, from RE2, is the perfect one. The story behind the RPD, the politics of the city and the creation of the STARS team… with a good amount of zombies creepy cases… all from Marvin perspective. This would bring awesome cameos from the main characters, and also would respect the canon and all the imprinting that us, audience, had made since the games. P.S. Sorry for the English… I’m Brazilian. Great Episode!! Kieran is always a fun time!! P.S.2. There you go… a great idea that will never see the light of the day!

It was a regular orange and white tiger that they basically coated in some kind of black dye over and over again. The tiger didn't die from the dye job, though, because that was vegetable dye. Its like the same writer who wrote the script for the 2016 Ghostbusters movie wrote the script for this movie. Someone who fully misunderstands the characters and their intentions and has no willingness to try. Wesker was a good guy pushed into betraying his unit, Leon was an incompetent coward, Jill was not interesting, Brian Irons was more involved with the movie than he should have been... Not even Chris and Claire were done justice. The only character they SORTA got right was Lisa Trevor bit and that one zombie that turns towards the camera like the first zombie in the first game. The whole Itchy Tasty line was ruined by some nutter chick who ends up screaming it at Claire... I was so disappointed when the movie was finished, man. I love this franchise so much and when fan films are more accurate and entertaining than a $20 million Hollywood movie I cringe because it's embarrassing how something so clear can be so ruined.

I don't hate it but it's sad that the hardcore fans have to settle for this fine and fun adaptation of a survival horror game. I think great directors with great vision often want to make their own creation and not adapt a videogame. I often think of who would make a great movie like this, maybe Fincher or someone like that. Just as a means of adding a little D-fence to this movie, someone said this was giving them Doom Annihilation vibes. I disagree. The cahracters are acting like Resident Evil characters would, the settings look right (for the MOST part), there's multiple types of monsters including zombies, a licker, a Cerberus, Lisa Trevor and even William Birkin. All Doom Annihilation had was a handful of Paul W.S. Anderson zombies, three imps and a 4-minute Hell sequence that goes nowhere and adds nothing.

    I just got out of the theater. I'm a big Resident Evil game fan, and actually I liked the film. I only liked the first Re movies from 2002 and 2004. This is basically the movie version of two games in one. where it is biggest disappointment. I wanted to see more of the mansion than the police station. It felt like a 90s film which is basically the games we're released. It's got issues, but it's decent.

    You know,... upon my initial viewing of this movie I completely hated it. However, after watching your review, I thought I'd give it a second chance and.... I think you guys are right. It was fun and fine. I'd say it's the closest and best adaptation to a live Resident Evil video game that we have gotten to this point. To me what really hurt the movie the most was just all the miscasting and the character rewrites were poorly done. Leon was never the comic relief character, he was a smart rookie natural badass who rose to the occasion to survive an impossible situation. Wesker, wasn't a "bro", he was a quiet stoic mysterious no-nonsense type of guy. And where the hell was Barry?!!! Also I didn't mind that they got a more diverse cast to play some of the other characters but at least MAKE AN EFFORT to make them look the parts more?!! For Claire, while she wasn't diversified in her casting, AT LEAST tie her hair up in a ponytail to match that iconic look she's rocked in all the RE games! For Jill have her wear her hair short and straighten it! For Leon for GOD'S SAKE at least have the man shave his facial hair and straighten his hair!!! It's NOT that hard!!!
    The CGI wasn't the greatest but it was passable to where it looked decent and didn't horribly distract from the rest of the imagery in the movie. I'd say hands down my favorite thing about this movie were the sets and locations. I really felt like I was in Raccoon City just like in the games. The RPD, Spencer Mansion, and Racoon City Orphanage felt like they had been ripped straight out of the games and put into real life! I also enjoyed all the mini Easter eggs throughout the movie (i.e. truck driving eating burger, bobble head toys you destroyed in the game bonus, spade/club/heart key etc). Even Itchy Tasty being in there was a pretty nice call back (even if it could been implemented better).
    What upsets me the most about this movie is that, I feel it came closer than any other previous versions done to giving us video game fans what we've been waiting for... but sadly they dropped the ball on so many things and this didn't live up to it's full potential. I think this could of worked better as a movie series if the first movie they had tied together RE0 and RE1 into a single movie as both games happen pretty simultaneously at Spencer Mansion. Then for a second movie tied together the events of RE2 and RE3 since those events also ran parallel to each other. Such missed opportunities. I wonder if we'll ever see a RE movie that is able to hit all the right beats to make what should be, a more easily translatable video game to movie blockbuster experience.
