  • Today at Ugly Truck, we're wearing all our "flare" and plumbing the fuel system on the 86 C10 6.0 swap. This truck has factory dual fuel tanks, but push lock fittings and pinch clamps make this a pretty quick install. We have a Holley Sniper fuel pump in each tank, running through a Wix 33579 and a Fuel Lab regulator. On the return side, we use a Standard FV1T switch valve, which will default the return fuel to the left tank. We'll tie the solenoid on the switch valve to the relay for the right side pump, switching the return fuel to the right tank when the right pump in on. Stay tuned for a video on the EVAP system, coming soon! If you have EVAP questions, be sure to let us know!

    Great video, I always pick up tips and tricks. I love doing swaps and I hard line everything (hate seeing FI hose running like drapes under a vehicle) but that tip using the flare tool is fantastic, it will save a ton of cash. I use -6an nuts and seats with a single flare mostly with barb fittings for vibration and movement isolation with FI hose, not anymore. Just need that crimp tool. Thanks.

    You said “Greek models”, I heard “Jerry is putting out a photo calendar featuring him bending a different hardline every month!” Can’t wait! Also, I think a few of us out here in CZcams viewer land are yelling at their screens “He didn’t flare the hardline at the trans going up to fuel rail! HEY!!”. Hardline flaring is tedious, but it’s cleaner how y’all do it. I bought a MasterCool hydraulic flaring tool for doing brake hard lines, fuel hardlines, metric bubble flares, and it does the GM transmission cooler lines too! Picked up a 37° AN flare set for it too. It’s amazing, and easy for cardiac disabled(weak) people like me to use. Great stuff guys! See ya next video…

      Thanks Jon. I just recently bought that same tool and love it. I am going to replace the lines going up to the intake on this one so I didn't bother doing a flare. I am going to get some experience with the new flare tool before we start using them in a video. I do love having the ability to make these fittings. I will have to get the AN set next.. Appreciate it. Jerry

    Maybe I missed a step, but what keeps the fuel from the pump that’s running from going out the other side of the Y into the other tank? Is there a check valve that I missed?

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  Před rokem +3

      Hey Randy. The pumps have a check valve in them that keep the flow in one direction. On this truck being a short bed I am trying to just use the pumps as the check valve and see how it goes. If it ends up having a long crank time after sitting for a bit I left enough line to add a check valve. I don't think it will be a problem though. Thanks. Jerry

    @joeykennedy418 Před rokem

    Thanks for the content! I also watched the other video where you built a similar fuel system. I’m going to do this with my truck as well. Can you tell me why you cannot use the old rocker switch?

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  Před rokem +1

      The rocker switch is not a On and Off switch. I just need to turn that return valve on, so by turning the switch to It's on position It sends power to the relay turning the right side pump and also the solenoid to feed return fuel to that side. I will make sure to talk about it a little better in the up and coming video's. Thank Joey. We appreciate you watching.

  • @bfdozer

    Very knowledgeable. Two questions, how do you keep fuel from bypassing to the other tank through the Y fitting? Is the bleed back valve in the other pump strong enough to prevent this?

      Thanks Dozer. Yes, the pumps have a check valve in them that keep the flow in one direction. If you had a return style intake could you use the Gates 27315 Barricade Carburetion Fuel Line for return only ?

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  Před 6 měsíci

      Yes. You could do that. In the event that something happened between your regulator and the fuel tank that would restrict that line it would be forced to try to handle that pressure though. I did that on our 74 to save some money, but when I am building it for somebody else, I just use high pressure fuel line. Thanks. Jerry

    I am running a very similar set up, and i have the regulator set to about 58psi which it holds well. However, when i looked at the terminator screen the fuel sensor showed 38ish psi at idle. I have the sensor installed on the fitting that connects to the fuel rail. It runs ok but i am worried i dont have proper 58psi at the rails. what could cause this? lines are all new and im sure theres no clogs.

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  Před měsícem

      Hi Dery. I would start by putting a different fuel pressure gauge on the fitting at the rail and see what it reads. Some of those regulators with the gauge built in are not very accurate, and you'll definitely need to bump it up if it really is only 38 at the rail. Let us know what you find out. Thanks for watching and commenting. Jerry and Emily

  • @vigoshaw
    @vigoshaw Před rokem

    Wouldnt fuel from the pump just bypass the regulator when using a tee that way? I thought the regulator had a inlet from the pump then a feed port to the rail and a return port back to the tank. Or maybe im missing something.

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  Před rokem

      Thanks Vigo. The fuel pressure regulator just bleeds off the excess pressure and sends it back through the return line. Both fittings on the regulator are inlets and the other fitting is return. I know it doesn't look like it would work but it does. You would think that it has a Inlet, fuel return and then an outlet but it doesn't. Any line connected to it's inlets will have regulated pressure. Thank You for watching and commenting. Jerry

      @UglyTruckExperience  Před 10 měsíci

      We don't do jobs that are E85 capable, so it is probably a little overkill. If I was doing a flex fuel system or something around high temps, I would absolutely make it PTFE. I appreciate you getting the Office Space reference. Are you working on a swap? Jerry

    so how do you run pump n fuel gauge selector switch n relay? return selector wire? use ecu I'm guessing? Q how low must fuel be to cause sparatic fuel pressure in highway speed curve? I'm just thinking necessary value of baffled tanks...curve might last 10sec. at most, less than 2gals in tank any speeds lower less fuel starvation not as prominent in straight road conditions. 1/4 reserves in each wud prevent ....bonus having dual tanks n running one empty before switching tanks as common practice ? burning up fuel pumps running dry....thots?
