I love the continuous filming that does not cut away or edit the little details out. Love the channel. I always have my note pad ready when watching.
Thanks Jon Jon! Glad you're taking notes... you never know when there will be a pop quiz! 🤣 Thanks for tuning in!
I was literally looking for this video yesterday! Glad I found this channel!!
Perfect timing! 😁 Thanks for watching!
Getting close to your goal of 1 million subscribers.
Little closer every day! Thanks for tuning in, Josh! 👋
Thanks for sharing always putting up good content 👍🏼👍🏼💯
Thanks! We appreciate you watching our stuff!
Great video guys. Thank you.
Thanks for tuning in, Mike!
This is definitely one of the most technical automotive channels. If I ever do a truck/car build, I will be watching all these videos again. I learn many tips from each video. For example, did not know about the green writing on the fuel line meaning that it is good for use with ethanol blended fuels.
According to Wikipedia, 94% of US ethanol is derived from corn. On a recent trip through North Dakota, I was shocked to see pretty much the entire state seeded to corn. After making ethanol from the corn, I believe the residual mash is used for cattle feed.
Thanks Rob! That's a lot of corn!! 🌽 The green writing on the fuel hose is true for Gates, but I'm not sure about other brands. We appreciate you watching!
More Square LS goodness! Congrats on the 10k, looking fwd to that donor headlight harness/relay video. I think I have it figured out on my own but would love to see that video!
Thanks Nick! That video should be coming up pretty soon! Thanks for tuning in!
Thanks for the video, lot of good idea's. It's always nice to run a submerged pump and I have done it in a similar way to what you've done and depending on application I use a weld in kit from EFI Hardware in Victoria, Australia that uses the later bucket type, one assembly spring loaded F.I. units or just an external pump. You never mentioned fuel regulation, I use the Corvette filter/regulator and return fuel to the in tank unit or with an external pump often I return to the fuel filler neck. It's easy to pull them off, clean them up and weld in any fittings needed for fuel return.
Hello Ken. I'm going to check out eh EFI Hardware. This truck has a throttle body on it so it has a pressure regulator built into it. Thanks Jerry
another great video thanks
Thanks Wade! We appreciate you tuning in!
I'm taking my 5.7 out this weekend
Awesome! 🤘🤘 What are you putting in?
good morning 🙏
Good morning Alonso! 👋
Oh yeah 87 was a great year for rock albums
Definitely! 😎😎😎
First off: Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, guys, for that item. Very much appreciated it!
Second: You briefly touched on adding an exterior ground from the tank. I had a question on that, today when removing my old tank I ran into a ground. It was attached to the welded collar/ring that ran from the tank to the chassis. On the new setup, there isn’t a ground on the tank but there is one in the tank running out of the harness. Is there something you’d suggest or a part number you have to create that tank to chassis ground and what’s your thought process on adding that versus running just the ground from in the tank? Thanks again! Another great video 👍🏽👍🏽
I don't know why they started running that ground in there like that riveted closer to the pump and the sender. I will clamp another to one of the lines. The locking ring on the sender is a great connection to the tank. The one ground is probably fine but I am just a nut about having good grounds. Thanks
Are you going to show the fuel line plumbing with tank selector valve used?
Yep, we'll have a video on that very soon! In the meantime, here's a video we did on an 85 C10 a while back! czcams.com/video/HcaAvC2aOVY/video.html Thanks for tuning in!
I ended up putting gas rated pipe dope on my behind the seat 72 c10 tank sending unit flange to get rid of the gas smell when the tank was full. My 70 c10 will be LS with a bed mounted tank. Those custom Boyd units are very spendy but complete with pump, baffles, drop in ready. Any thoughts on using a blazer or suburban tank to retrofit? The juice high five was awesome
Emily's 70 c10 has the original tank behind the seat and a frame mounted tank under the bed behind the axle. On the back tank I ran the pump the same as this video with the suburban sender. The front tank on hers is filled and then gravity feeds into the rear tank. It takes forever to fill up both tanks but holds almost 40 gallons total. I did it that way just so I had the original filler neck. I use vapor purge on the ls so no stink. Any way. The rear tank is definitely the way to go. Thanks Bill. Jerry
Could I use a fuel tank from a 2002 Tahoe and plug and play ? If it’s the doner vehicle ?
Hello Eric. If you can get it to fit, you absolutely could do that. Thanks. Jerry
Super helpfull video! I have a 85 k20. I would like for the fuel gauge to work correctly so that means I need the sending unit from a 85 not an 87? It will be the same prosses to swap to your ls setup? Are the baffels in the tank necessary? Thanks!
We run the 87 sending units in the 85's and the 5 ohm difference really isn't noticeable. If you keep your fuel tank above a 1/4 tank, not having a baffle is no problem. Our own trucks do not have baffles and it has not been an issue. Thanks for watching. Jerry and Emily
@@UglyTruckExperience I really appreciate your response! Do you happen to know anything about mating a 4l80e 4x4 to a np208c transfer case? I think I have vss figured out, I am just trying to figure out if I will need an adapter. Thank you!
You would have to buy an adapter for that and also the 4l80 is longer which poses a problem. You will end up having to have to deal with different length driveshafts also to position the engine back far enough. Jerry
Will the factory LS wiring harness plug into the fuel pump sending unit connector?
Hello Dryden. The factory harness doesn't have the same connector. You will end up having to change the connector . Thanks for watching. Jerry
Jerry how to run the shift cable for the transmission in to 1984 culum
Hi Cesar! Check out this video on hooking up the shift linkage on a squarebody. czcams.com/video/jh7UkYNqVqk/video.html Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
Question 2- Where do I get the fancy clamp tool for the stainless clamps?
We got ours at Lowe's years ago, in the plumbing section. But here's one on Amazon for cheap! a.co/d/0k4bDws
Question- do you have a part number for the 20 gallon tanks? Thank you.
I'll add it to the parts list in the description in just a few! Thanks for watching!
In a dual saddle tank set up for a 87 k30 are both sending units the same fitment or is there a drivers side and passenger side sending unit ment for each tank ? Thank you
Hello Richard. The left and right sending units are different. Thanks. Jerry
Do you need to use a 87 tank for this set up?? I also have an 86 I want to swap and it came with 2 new tanks but non efi style.. great videos 👍🏼
Nope! The only difference in the tanks is that the 87 has a baffle. We're reusing one of the tanks on the red 86 as well. You should be good to go! Thanks for watching!
Im running this exact setup and I noticed this Holley pump is rated at 16.9 amp draw. Are the wires on this sending unit able to handle this? The sending unit wires are rather small.
Yes, No problem. Even if that wire is 16 gauge wire it would handle that pump. It depends on how long the wire is in that case. I think the same thing when I am wiring them up that they look a bit small. A good 16 gauge wire that is almost 2 foot long can supposedly handle 30 amps. I just wouldn't run that size wire down to it from the fuse box. Thanks. Jerry
@@UglyTruckExperience Great! thank you so much for the quick reply. Trying to get my rig on the road for this nice weather.
Can you use the stock 87 fuel pump for a stock 6.0 going into a 85 C10? Or does it need to be a higher rated one?
It needs to be a higher pressure, higher flow pump. Jerry
What do you use for your gas tank coatings?
In the video, these tanks are brand new so they just have a nice shiny coat of paint from the factory. We did put a couple coats of Rustoleom Undercoating on them, for rust prevention and sound deadening. Even a couple quick coats makes a big difference on the sound of the pump running. Thanks for watching, Derek!
Do you have a part number for the electrical connectors that mate up with the fuel sender?
That is just a basic 2 pin gm weatherpack connector. I buy them in bulk packages that come in 2-3and 4 pin connectors so my part number would give you way more than you probably need. If you google 2 pin gm weatherpack you will have plenty to decide from. Get the ones that can handle 14 awg wiring. Thanks Rob. Jerry
Thank you for the info Jerry!
When I installed the 87 tank in my 84 K10, I used AN adapters on the sending unit. Wishing I had gone down the route you used in the video. I somehow ruined the AEM fuel pump (it has ZERO miles on it) I installed, so I need to pull it all back apart and install a new one… most likely that Holley pump you used. I’m going to have to replace that connector because the lock side broke when I pulled the connector apart to Ohm the pump. I would also like to increase the wire gauge to 12 awg.
Llnes pig tail from tank what fitting used in ends
On this system I went right to the hard lines and pinch clamp them. No fittings. Thanks. Jerry
Can you tell me what color the wire is on my 83 C1500 for the fuel level for my gauge and are they the same color for both tanks
I don't have a 83 wiring diagram, but I do have a 84 and they are tan. Both wires from each side tank and the wire that runs up to the firewall is tan also. I know they were the same in earlier trucks. So I would think 83 is the same. Jerry
@@UglyTruckExperience thanks Jerry almost to the point of driving it I’ll send you pictures and video asap
That's awesome! We're on Facebook fb.com/uglytruck or email us at uglytruckexperience@gmail.com.
Can make a video showing how to wired the gas pump too the truck..please...?.
What are you working on Jose? We do have some videos out there that go through that, but maybe I can help you out. Jerry
Will a shortbed tank work on a longed? I ordered the wrong tank.
It will work but you end up having to run a different filler neck tube I believe. If you can return the other it might be less headache than changing tank size. Thanks Clayton
And what about the fuel regulator? Which one did you used?
Hi Armando! Here is a link to the fuel regulator we used. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00378V182/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Check out this video, where we install the fuel and supply lines on this truck! EVAP video coming soon! czcams.com/video/NtfJcXJBirg/video.html
You said the purple wire goes to the sending unit but where do the other wires go im doing a swap on an 86k5 which did not come stock with an electrical fuel pump so I have to wire it myself any info would be greatly appreciated
Send me more specifics of what your donor motor, harnessand fuse box is and I will try to help.
@Ugly Truck Experience you actually answered my question I just wasn't thinking you said the purple wire goes to the sending unit and I now I know the grey wire goes to power which I'll be hooking up a relay and of course the black to ground but I appreciate your video all the other videos I've seen everyone says the harness will hook up to the vehicles stock harness but a 1986 k5 blazer didn't come with an electrical fuel pump so it doesn't have a harness but if I have more questions I'll definitely ask you thanks appreciate the info
Any time. Sounds like you are on the right path. Let us know how your project is going. Thanks. Jerry
On the holley sniper feul pump a part number please
19-369 Holley Sniper
@@UglyTruckExperience thks
I actually used a ‘87 tank and sending unit in my ‘73 when i LS swapped it….even used that same exact 340lph red holley pump….i only ran 1 tank on the passenger side though…..i dont think my truck was ever equipped with dual tanks because theres no switch on the dashboard near the ashtray where their usually located……the tank was suprisingly cheap at around $120 and the sender was literally a couple bucks cheaper but thats only cause it came with a lil wimpy gether fuel pump….probably not even a 255lph considering it was meant to feed an electric carburator😂😂😂
It is a great way to do it. Our 74 has the same. Thanks for watching. Jerry and Emily
I was just gonna ask, will the 87 tanks fit the round headlight square bodies? I'm getting ready to ls swap a 76 c20. Does it bolt in pretty much or is there mounting modifications required?
@@GreatLakesLogger dierect bolt in……
Yep! Bolts right in. Thanks for watching! Emily and Jerry
1987 🤘 my mom was crossing her fingers 🤞that I would graduate high school 😂
🤣🤣 I think Jerry was in a similar situation... 😁 Thanks for watching, Tim!
@@UglyTruckExperience but look at us now … 😬 I tell my daughter I’m proof you don’t need an education to make money
Exactly! 😁 If a kid was smart these days, they'd learn a trade.
Could you do that to a blazer tank thks
Yes, works great. That's what we did on our 70 C10. Thanks Peter. Jerry and Emily
@@UglyTruckExperience thks what's the year to get for the EFI tank mine is a 1965 f100 will be a fat bed I have put a 14 bolt diff the norrow put the o4 crown Victoria police interceptor crossmember the motor is a 5.3 and 4l60
We just used a stock 1970 Blazer tank. I'm not sure what options Ford had for frame mount or reserve tanks, or what other tanks would fit. Let us know what you end up with. Thanks
I have a 81 Caballero 3.8 V6 Carburetor G Body. Do you think this set up would work for me?
I assume the fuel won’t hurt them butt connectors?
That's a great question.... I should have mentioned that. Yes, they are advertised as being able to stand up to fuel, oil , water, etc. When I first started doing these I could buy certain Delphi pumps that the connector just plugged into which was great but haven't been able to find them any longer. Thanks Mike.. Jerry and Emily
LOL, you said butt...
--Emily 😁
@@UglyTruckExperience I could hear you say that while I was typing that 🤣
Will the 20 gallon tank work on a short bed?
Hello Bowtie. No, the short bed can only take the smaller tank. Thanks for watching. Jerry and Emily
@@UglyTruckExperience thanks for getting back with me and thanks for making such great vids!
@@UglyTruckExperience I’ve went back and forth on how to do my wiring. I’ve got two junk yard harnesses that have seen better days. I thought about a cheap Chinese harness and then a nice painless harness. But I’d still need a tune because I’m running forged pop ups and a truck Norris cam in a 6.0. So I’m most likely going with a Fitech Ultimate LS Standalone ECU with Trans Control 70051. A bit pricey but for self learning, get me on the road, I like it. Have you had any experience with them?
We had somebody stop in here just the other day with a turbo 5.3 being run by that system. He said he was really happy with it and it did run nice. Let us know how it goes. Thanks. Jerry
@@UglyTruckExperience good to know! And I’ll definitely get back with you!! Once I get it going I’ll have videos of it on my channel. I’ve got a 2006 Silverado turbo’d, it’s a blast!
What number is the sender unit on oraily
Precision is the product line. fg05m is for left hand tank and fg05n for the right hand tank. Thanks Cesar. Jerry

I also went to a Motley Crue / Dr. Feelgood concert. I should have remembered that one.
I found this videos information very good however, I couldn’t finish because of the constant talking underneath the video. I think I would be a subscriber if it wasn’t for the constant talking in the background videos.
It is very difficult for me to stand in front of a camera and talk without having any feedback. Without her there talking to me it would have to be scripted and take so much time. We appreciate your opinion though. Jerry
Too bad the girl has to keep talking back and laughing…really ruins it for me. I’ll watch other videos from now on
I really hope you do. That girl is my wife and I love when she is talking back to me and laughing. Jerry
