dude you do this alot cleaner than everyone else thank you
I am so excited to get this done! honestly I was a bit worried it was going to be complicated but it is as easy as programming a vhf radio. If I mess up as well I know where to go! haha Thank you!
Thank you very cool. now with vats gone we can use blank keys. etc. and also for setting the p0420 along with other codes to no report that will i believe will not make the cel come on for example a bad cat. I enjoyed it keep them coming.
Excellent, simple video.
Thank you very much for sharing the knowledge.
You’re welcome, thanks for watching!
Awesome video! Thank you!
I was freaking out because I couldn't figure out how to reflash my PCM to a different OS since 12579403 isn't supported but thanks to you I was able to figure out how to flash it over and get my ECU ready. Just need to finish my fuel and trans lines before I start it for the first time.
How did it go man ?....my OS was the 12587811 also not supported but I think I found a xdf file. Not sure but I followed the steps and it seemed like it worked...well I still haven't tried cranking it yet....I need to install fuel lines and transmission lines also. Hahaha
Great video, best regards; 100 % works. 😉
Best video ever!
thanks for the input, unfortunately, I couldn't find a 12597120 XDF file for my bin. I only had to clean up the speedo as I went from 323 to 373, so I could use PCM Hammer and universal patcher to edit the pulse per mile and eliminate that pesky P0442 evap light :) . Used the VCX Nano and a self-built harness. Thanks again.

THANK YOU!!!!! I GOT THE VATS OFF MY 2004 6.0L CPU THANKS TO YOU!!!
Amazon sells the green OBDLink LX for $89.95 plus a ECU engine programming link wire for $38.99 shipped in 2 days free!!!!! Sure I could of built something like you have for free but this unit plugs into 110v so i can go sit in my air conditioned house on my comfortable couch while I played hacker😂 but less the $140 to get my swap running (not counting the windows laptop…….. but that beats the heck out of $500 for hptuner or more for the other J link crap
I have an 03 Envoy 5.3 (LM4). Going to be installing an aftermarket alarm with remote start. I may need to turn off VATS if it gets in the way. Thanks for this!
Your remote start should use a bypass module that duplicates the key signal over canbus
I guess the next logical question is to be able to add those to HPT via user defined. Do you have any video for that?
You are the best! This is the video that needed to be made. I basically went all in blind and ran into issues with checksum plugins. I was just frustrated trying to figure it out how to get the PI into tunerpro and nobody had a good explanation until today!
Do you verify all tunerpro rewrites with hpt because you have it, or just doing it for video purposes? That's the one thing that gets me is how to verify changes without something like hpt.
I basically just verified this one with HPT to demonstrate for the video that VATS and the rear O2 DTC’s had been disabled in the tune. Shouldn’t need to do that normally. Glad you found the video useful.
just subscribed thanks
You’re welcome, thanks for watching and subscribing!
Hey Randy. Awesome video !! I recently tried removing VATS from my 06 GMC but I can't seem to find the proper XDF file for my OS.
I was on the repository site and read in the comments that an OS swap can be done. Would you please make a video on how that can be accomplished ?
Ever figured out man?
thanks for sharing.
Let me know how much
I’ll be getting the wiring done on my swap here soon, my question for now though, is it just one credit per VIN? Or to disable VATs and tune the same ECU cost more than one credit?
How would you do a segment swap for say switching from automatic to manual?
I have the older HPTuners MPVI also, What version of the software are you using so you can read from the PCM? I don't have a license for HP Tuners to write, but can I still use it to read the code?
Thank you
Followed your steps and I get a error "unable to erase flash memory" when I try and re upload the file. from my searches it keeps coming up that it might be I don't have a large enough power supply. I have the same power supply as you 12v 1amp.. Ended up using a power supply with 12.8v and was able to flash ECM
do you need hp tuners obd2 to do this or can you use a different brand
Would you be able to reflash a 2007 Cadillac Northstar 4.6L engine? I believe I need the ECM and TCM flashed.
Can you do a DOD delete? Have a collapsed lifter thing of changing cam,
Just started researching pcm hammer and tunnerpro, I already have hp tuner (didn't know about the alternatives) but as much as I hate the $100 for credits, I feel like using this software seems a lot more complex as far as the steps needed just to do a vats delete and other changes.
It definitely is more complex to use. HP Tuners in it self is pretty complicated and the free alternatives are even more so.
@@LowbuckLS well we can only hope with time we'll get even better alternatives!
Practice a few times and all of it gets easy. As with welding repetition builds speed and all the file editing tasks can be done in software with no risk. (I use a Windows 10 virtual machine on a Linux host, and people with Macs can also run a Windows VM for file manipulation.)
Many mechanics don't use computers for more than internet browsing so practice helps greatly. Universal Patcher works nicely too. The more involved processes are also educational. When it comes to computers more knowledge, not less, is best. The vehicle computers themselves are complex because all those choices make the system powerful. There is already an easy route for non-technical people. It's called paying someone else. Plenty of computer techs are baffled by wrenching but what one man can do another can do.
I’m not a computer savvy person, what are your rates?
@@LowbuckLS I sent a questionnaire on your website but thought a CZcams comment maybe faster. I my motor has an LS1 intake and injectors will you PCM work for it? Also, I was told the motor is a 5.3 from a 2004 Tahoe but when I did the cam swap it has flat top pistons so pretty sure that means it's a 4.8? So also not sure which to choose when I order, 4.8 or 5.3? I would think 4.8 but want to make sure. Thanks for all your help!
Hello Randy.
I use hptuners yet. I’m still learning about it. I don’t have a whole lot of time to tune and write , I did run into a snag with my 04 Silverado with hptuner. I can’t do a write with high speed checked, it won’t do it. Although it seems to write at the same speed. It’ll time out. My Yukon is fine on high speed. ?? I was writing in a tune on the Silverado and I shut off the hvac motor and it locked up on me. Plus I noticed also beaux it locked up on me is do not move the cable around while writing. It took me an hour to figure it out. I had to disconnect the battery and wait for like 45mins then it slowly unlocked because writing still wouldn’t work until at least that amount of time. I turned the key to on and tried to start it and nothing. All lights came on but no start. Not a click. I was panicking. Lol. I thought I fudged it good. Lol.
That’s interesting, I’ve always been able to use high speed with HP Tuners. I have noticed the issue with bumping the cable causing problems when reading or writing, glad you were able to get yours working again!
If I just disable the DTCs for the rear O2s, does that still allow the system to show an inspector that the O2s are active/ready or will it be in an error state just without a CEL?
Can you also account for a CAI and headers or is that a tune only option? Also what would be your charge for everything?
I think cai and headers are a tune thing only..not sure
Does this only work with the stock LS computers?
I need vats deleted off a p12 trailblazer PCM for a 4200 swap.
Can I use HP Tuners to do my modifications then use PCM Hammer to do the flashing?
How to change vin number with PC hammer is that same proces?
Randy Cool Name! Hahaha… I will take you up on clearing the one we have supposedly from an 06 Silverado w/ L33. All I know it’s been refreshed with some upgrades. Now searching for someone to install. Don’t have proper tools & lacking on some skills so I decided to hire.
How do I get an address where to send? I Love to pick up head for a harness also. Randy
OBDX Pro Vt wont connect, just says query failed timeout... tried on two PCMs both same problem. hptuners and lsdroid work tho...
Hey man, I've got a 2000 S10 giving me hassles. I'm interested in having you or someone disable my Vats system. What would I be looking at in terms of cost?
How can I purchase a deleted computer from u?
Do i need the paid version of tuner pro to do this? Would any bluetooth obd2 reader work for this?
How much does one run ? I’d like to get one
how does one goes about with a sherco motorbike
Do you think that's Why I'm unable to get PCM hammer working because I haven't removed the vats system. I had to remove both BCM and PCM from my 2004 Grand AM GT And I got and I got this the spares from the junkyard but I didn't grab the key or cylinder. I had to hack my old vat system with a 22 ohm resistor in line with the BCM. I kept getting a security message and my car wouldn't start so I had to go through like a 10 minute relearn and that got old very quickly. So the 22 home resistor was able to allow me to start the car but the BCM had gotten wet and I needed to be replaced. So how can I remove the VAT system for free in any way or should I grab the cylinder and key from the donor car. Because as I said in a comment in another one of your videos I could get the OSID but PCM hammer says expected by 86 got 4 so it failed to get the key.
Would obdlink lx work for the 5.3 gen 4?
I would like to but one with vats removed, how do I do so?
Do you know how to properly delete EGR using TunerPro? This is for a 2000 GMC.
Your videos have been incredibly helpful by the way!!
Did you ever find an answer to that question?
@@jessetruman5788 I did not unfortunately.
Find the EGR enable settings in your bin file and look for 'EGR enable speed' or something along those lines; set the enable speed to something ridiculous like 250mph and the pcm will never command the EGR on.
does it work with tactrix open port 2.0?
Does PC Hammer work with OBDX Pro GT on the P01 LS1 PCM?
How do I segment swap to manual transmission I’m struggling with this
Had a 01 Olds Alero the other day. Wasted 2 credits to find out wouldn’t work. HP didn’t have a lot of info as they use to.
Can you do hemi ecus?
Can i do this in a pcm lt1 1996 Camaro ?
Can you use a Mac or Does it have to be a pc ?
Where in tunerpro can you find the section to change a 03 p59 from DBW to DBC? Mine is a drive by wire and switching to cable. I looked my pcm up and it can do both. Just can't find where to change it in tuner pro I looked everywhere. Thanks
I'm stuck on the same thing, I'm hoping lowbuck can help out. From other tuning videos I've seen, changing the throttle in hptuners is as simple as setting some dbw value from 1 to 0 and it then defaults to using iac and tps. I just can't locate that parameter in tunerpro. If you figure it out, let me know, I'll do the same.
@dynomantar9733 I didn't change anything yet still could not find it it ran so thinking might not have to change anything
It's in the system section underneath vehicle options you need help message me back
Is there a way to use this technique to switch a pcm from DBW to DBC? I'm fairly certain it's just changing one value from "1" to "0" but i can't seem to figure it out
Under vehicle systems folder go to Vehicle platform folder then to Vehicle platform table the Change ETC from 0 to 1.
What sites do I search up for a hellcat ?
Hey I try today to read the file from Silverado 2002 but it’s keep show it’s locked and ask for operation id?
Do you have any idea?
Thanks
Do the rear cat errors make the engine run differently? My car is a LS race swap, and there are no check engine or SES lights on the dash to annoy me, and no emission checks where I live. Will disabling these do me any good from an engine performance standpoint? Thanks for your videos.
No I don’t believe they effect the performance of the vehicle, just turn on the check engine light. If you don’t have one of those you should be fine.
I can't speak to GM, but some vehicles will repeatedly try to "heat up" the cat to attempt to get proper performance, if the signal is low from the rear sensor. Since they are adding fuel, fuel economy can suffer.
price for the PCM and the wires
Im guessing i got have internet service at my house/ shop ...all i got is cell phone internet , nothing else is available except satelite internet here in the sticks..so im stuck ..
Judging by the icons on the desktop you must be a measurement tech in the oil and gas sector
I’ve been a measurement guy in the past, currently just an electrician/instrumentation tech, but still do quite a bit with PLC’s/SCADA etc.
@@LowbuckLS yeah the roc link and MCIII icons caught my eye. I was a measurement/automation tech for several years for a contract company headquartered out of texas
hey so i have a 1999 chevrolet suburban with a blackbox ecu 5.7 and i am trying to delete the vats but pcmhammer only reads the vin and OS it does not give me the full read. have u done any of these black boxes?
I don’t think PCM Hammer will work with the black box, I’ve only been able to do it with HP Tuners
@@LowbuckLS alright, thanks for the reply you have really good videos by the way, thanks a lot
So when you disable the 2 rear O2 sensor's and cat codes you dont need the install them? I have a 2000 firebird and I added long tube headers and a stage 1 elgin camshaft.
No they don’t need to be installed
@@LowbuckLS Thank you. I also need to disable the egr and air pump.
Do you buy CPU i have two 96 Caprice Impala LT1 and one 91 92 Corvette computer?/
Have u deleted the anti theft on a black box ecu from a 1999 chevrolet suburban
I have deleted anti theft on a 1999 Tahoe with black box, but not with PCM Hammer, you'll need HP Tuners and have to buy a couple of credits.
I am having so many issues trying to get this to work I have two 2002 Chevy LS ecus how can I get you do remove this for me
You can send me an email at randy@lowbuckls.com. I’m up in Canada though so it takes a while for shipping if you’re in the states.
Has anyone came up with speed density os for tunerpro yet?
I need a PCM that need some stuff done if you could do it please
Send me an email at randy@lowbuckls.com and let me know what you need.
Tunerpro keeps crashing as soon as I load up an xdf file and I can't figure out how to get it to stop crashing
Do you have to remove the PCM to read and write ? Is it possible to do it obd port inside the car?
Yes, you can
So you are using Tunerpro to modify BIN and PCMHAMMER to write file to ECU?
Yes that’s correct, although recently I have started using Universal Patcher instead of TunerPro
Drop a zip file of pcm hammer the other site don’t seem to work
I'll see what I can do, in the meantime if you send me an email at randy@lowbuckls.com I can send you the files.
Hey man. My pcm OS is the 12587811(2006) which i couldn't find any xdf(not supported) ..but after doing some research, i think i stumbled on a xdf. I followed all the steps here without any problems. Do you think it actually worked? Would i able to start the engine. When i get to it ?...Or..

I can not get past the checksum plugin error stage. I have done exactly the same things as you in this video. I am using a P59 PCM but did add the 1MB checksum plugin to the TunerPro file. No luck. Any ideas?
Same did u figure it out
@@tinytidbits Yes, and no. I switched to using Universal Patcher. It was super easy to use. Chatted with a couple guys on Gearhead EFI that told me they have run into this issue before, about not being able to get past the checksum plugin and my OS ID was known for being glitchy.
@@woog74 do you have a link to universal patcher? Im running into the same issue of not being able to get past the checksum
What flavor of hp tuner are you using I see they have 5.0.4 out
I’m not even sure which version I’m using, I’ll check when I’m near my computer. A lot of guys are hesitant to upgrade to the new versions because HP Tuners has been disabling certain features due to EPA laws.
@@LowbuckLS good video LowBuck... but as to Toby's question and I'm sure you both know. All you need to do is back up your computer before downloading a new version. if you see parameters that you prefered on previous version you can always go back to it..
how do I send my computer to u
Where do I get a xdf / bin file for ecm not listed?
Ask on forums and Facebook groups. It's worth the several hours study to get familiar.
Does the checksum change by doing this?
It does but you can fix the checksum by using the correct checksum plugin in TunerPro or using Universal Patcher instead of TunerPro
Good video...but this whole exercise is dependent on a xdf file...I had 7 gm computers 3 ,411 style. I could not find one xdf file that I could use..this exercise is useless without a usable xdf file...
I’ll be covering a couple of options on what to do if you can’t find an xdf file in upcoming videos. One is to swap the OS to one that has a valid xdf, the other is to use a program like universal patcher which doesn’t require an xdf. But yes it definitely makes it difficult if there isn’t a valid xdf for your OS.
Mangoose Pro GM II Works with pcm hammer ?
Yes it does
I want one
Hello I'd like to get my ecu, taken care of could you send me and address and cost to have this done
If you go to lowbuckls.com/store see what my current prices are. As of right now I am charging $100 to reprogram a PCM to meet your needs. You can also send me an email to randy@lowbuckls.com if you have more questions.
I have a tuner locked pcm. cam you remove that with this system??
I’m not sure about that. I can try put a tuner lock on and do some experimentation and let you know.
I can read the file but it won't let me open it on hp tuners. so that means you can read it and then maybe write entire to remove the tuner lock. let's hope I've held on to my pcm for a while
Please send address to send my computer and payment method excepted. I have a 1978 Jaguar with LS 7 2001. Need this done asap.Thank you.

I can, send me an email at randy@lowbuckls.com.
How do I remove vats from 89 trans am pcm ?
I’ve never worked on a system that old, I’m not sure to be honest. Not something I have direct experience with.
Could you show how to connect OBDLINK Bluetooth to PCMHAMMER
I haven’t been able to get OBDLink to work with Bluetooth, my laptop is pretty old and doesn’t do well with Bluetooth devices. If I get it figured out I’ll do a video about it.
@@LowbuckLS but it will work with a Bluetooth laptop?

My tuner says he deleted the rear o2s but they still pop up on a scanner
That’s strange, maybe he just unchecked the “MIL” light check box and didn’t set them to no error reported. Probably won’t cause any performance issues but would still be nice to not have codes show up when you scan for DTC’s.
I need this done how do I contact?

Can you delete vats, egr, rear o2, wheel speed sensors, purge valve and vvt...lol on a 2006 buick 3.6
If you sent the file I’d do for 60
I inherited a 5.3L engine that I serviced. With almost 100k, it should be in good shape but at some point, you send parts to a machine shop or just buy gaskets, seals and small normal stuff. Me pallet based, 2 X 6 with pipe. Drilled and bolted it was solid and full of fluids & radiator, I wanted to test compression (160 PSI average) gage oil pressure, leaks, clean injectors and pass or fail. LED with resistor, power, ground and key input...to by-pass VATs for now, I stuck an 8,000 resistor and did a 30 minute relearn. Worked great.
Now, I am still sending my PCM (411) to MO. to have programmed by I can be doing other stuff. The key VATs sensor is 3 resistors with two in series and one in parallel so with values ever changing, 8K was good to key on, wait ten minutes, key off, on and repeat.
DK, ASE Master Tech Since 1978, retired.
I need to send you my computer need an address
You didn't power down keyed power for 10 seconds prior to killing all power
I don’t believe you need to do that with PCM Hammer but I haven’t tested this PCM on an actual engine yet to confirm that the VATS removal is functioning properly. If it causes problems I will do it the way in the future.
