    base coat is pretty tough, look at all the vehicles out there where the clear coat has failed and the base is still there after years and years. The Blue looks awesome!

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před měsícem +1

      very good point, most base coat is also very flexible and doesn’t require a flex additive, reason I say that is I also use the same paint for the plastic trim and interior parts. a good cleaning and prep it bonds and flex’s great

    like your video . retired now but useto add about an ounce of clear coat hardner to the basecoat to make it more durable for edging paneis and interior parts . watched your last build and enjoy this one .thanks

    Nice👍 Another thing about having a little color on the car it's motivation to get through that body working stage. I liked the blasting media bags used to temperley level out the floor . At work I made some plywood floor raisers that go from the rockers to the tunnel in 2 halfs. Glued some harbor freight foam flooring mats on them makes working inside a car so much easier might be worth making some up.

    Jon....not sure if you are using Transtar throughout, but most manufacturers offer a way to "harden" their basecoat. True urethane bases utilize a catalyst/hardener like the clear coat (sometimes the exact same hardener) which offers better holdout and durability. Typically used on modern cars for frame rails, radiator supports, and under hood...where you don't need high gloss, but need moderate protection.

    I would like to know the pros cons of the rattle can sealer to the 2part sealer.

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před měsícem +2

      for exterior panels 2part all the way interior or underbody not as critical but still not a bad idea. I use epoxy for a lot of the build but mixing the paint and then cleaning the gun for just the dash I wasn’t feeling it today.

    Wow really coming along beautifully!!! Question for you: 67/68 Birds...Have you ever seen or heard of, GTO Hide aways (Lights) being grafted into a 67/68 Bird?? I've never seen it, but wonder if you may have or seen a custom someone has done....Just curious....Thanks Jonathan....Always Love your work!!

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před měsícem +1

      I haven’t see that yet, I have seen headlights behind a grille but not a flipping cover. later years had flip up headlights so it’s fitting to modify a bird to do the same. so maybe it will happen now it’s been put out there

    Hey, Jon. I took from what you were saying that this paint you got matches the original better than others you've tried? If that's true, do you know if the original you're going after is the "Dark Blue Poly?" Apparently those color codes are the same between 1969 Pontiac and Chevrolet. My Camaro had Dark Blue Poly as the original interior color and I'll be looking for a good paint match.

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před měsícem +2

      Dark blue ploy is what I am looking for. I have the ditzler paint codes for that color but no one has the mix for it. This color I picked was a little lighter it’s closer to original
      But still a little too light to
      Match 100%

    • @blackcloud77
      @blackcloud77 Před měsícem

      @@VinylVillageGarage Seems to be a common theme. I still have original paint up underneath the dash, maybe after I remove the firewall, I will take a piece down to a local shop and see if they can mix it up close. I'm not sure what it will cost for the trial and error; maybe best just to roll with what you found. When searching I found that one guy on the Camaro forums liked GM Buick Twilight blue metallic WA-3855 Code 51. He gave a bunch of cross references for it but that was 2012, maybe you can't get that paint anymore either!
