@@SportsCardInvestor none of that is meant as a dig. My point is, collect what makes you happy. Trade what makes you happy. Analysis can be a good thing but don’t overthink it all. If Steph posts a video of himself waving a handgun or has a 14 year old girlfriend, all of the analysis is for not. If a trade makes sense for you then do it.

I like how you explained the Ohtani - Ridder trade. It's definitely a big risk on your end, but you could potentially win out big - esp if you offload that if he has a strong start. I don't think the Ridder is a long term hold, however.

I believe the difference is that you are looking at this as investment/business with a flipping mindset. Where as most of us would never sell a card like that because that is a grail card that we might never sell

The Ohtani/Ridder dual auto hands down was a good trade. The Steph RPA trade at first I thought was a bad trade but after hearing your thought process I think your right. You'll definitely be able to pick that card back up in the future for quite a bit less than $150k. Well played Sir 🙌
I remember people saying the same thing when selling Mickey Mantles in the 90s Unless you think someone is going to do badly (date a 12 year old, kill and old girlfriend etc) never sell greats. Ridder is the worst 2-0 qb in the league.

People can't realize that the upside on that Ridder is so much more than the Ohtani base rookie auto. Ohtani prices are peaking and a 1/1 prizm black auto of a starting QB is always expensive. If he gets them to the playoffs or does anything, it will shoot up.
I agree that Curry is no longer in a real contender. So congrats on the trades and re-grades. My only constructive criticism is that your market movers app is way too expensive. Would love to use it but can’t justify the price when I can get almost the same information elsewhere for free. Thank you
The Warriors are still a really good team. But even if they did win another championship or Steph Curry wins an MVP...how much further would his card prices go? We already know his legacy, and greatness. Same can be said for Giannis and Jokic with their awards and accolades. If you're a believer in the Celtics and Jayson Tatum or Luka Doncic, these are just some that come to mind of players now really just entering their prime. Despite the amount of money Luka cards were going for in the Covid boom, an MVP or ring...would be interesting, that being said I see Golden State doing better than Dallas unless Mark Cuban can pull off a stunning trade. Embiid with Kyrie and Luka is a contender.
On the ohtani/acuna PSA regrade. Did you put a min grade on your order of 10 or ...?

I own the Sam Howell 1/1 black no huddle auto psa 10, auto 10. Glad to see a similar comp because I’ve heard opinions that are wide and far apart. Both good and bad. Lol thanks Geoff!
Howell is going to be boom or bust like Ridder. You’ll know here shortly which it is. I would be a little too antsy on him and would put it up for sale unless it’s a PC Card for life or something.
Historically dual autos have been valued at way lower prices than the individual players. Even with the dual 10s, I don’t see that card being valued nearly at what it was traded for plus it’s a topps now card. Even though your value for the Steph was nice, what’s the point of having grails if any offer within the first few months would lead you to let it go. It’s not a grail and never will be. The only thing that’s for certain is the money you received in the trade. Those cards you got in return can and will go down. Will the RPA, yeah but probably not nearly as much.
Respect your thinking on doing those trades.

Cards with multiple players on it scare me a bit. Although Acuna and Ohtani are currently both great, you need BOTH to continue along their current trajectory for it to hold up long term.
That's why the best multiple player cards...is vintage. Plenty of league leaders that are under valued, the hobby hasn't caught up to them yet.
@@ACD1994multi-player vintage are my favorite! When you can’t afford their solo base cards, their multi-player cards are sometimes more affordable. If not, I’ll personally take a lower grade to make it affordable. My favorite modern multi-player is the 2022 Topps with Vladdy, Salvy and Ohtani HR leaders.
I like the logic on every trade. I’d say the Steph curry RPA one is still the one I’m the most iffy on, but as a collector who came into the hobby in 2022 and has seen all my cards drop, 20,000 in 2 months on 1 card is impressive in this market
I think the ridder is like 10k-13k raw cause if Zappe to many collectors someone who is going nowhere sold for 5k + ridder is high potential ridder PSA 10 like 45 k prob
If you just had the Ridder trade I would have thought you were nuts but if you take the 3 trades together things make more sense. You moved Ohtani but got Ohtani back later plus got the TLaw back as well. You essentially moved the Curry RPA for what you lost in the original deal plus more cash which is a great flip plus got another great gold Curry. Crossing both the Ridder and Ohtani Acuna dual were great upgrades as well.

I like the trade for Ridder, and also trading the Curry away. Ridder has a lot of weapons this year, and looks like he's going to do well. You did well picking 2 stars with cards that may have gotten to their highest peak prices, and since Desmond's card hasn't yet spiked in price, and since it's pretty rare, that could turn out being a great deal. Plus, if he turns out being a mediocre QB, he at least plays for the team you back. Back in the old days, I would take a Bernie Kosar rookie card over any of the other big name QBs, because he was my guy. Very similar story here. Well, I wish you luck with the Ridder card, and hope it turns out well for you! It looked like you were happy with the deal, and that's all that really matters. Thanks for the interesting video!
Desmond Ridder will be on a short leash with Taylor Heinicke as backup. If Ridder does well, then its an awesome trade, but if not, then that is a different story.
Everyone’s like “ I would never have sold the shohei ohanti” god forbid he gets injured they will trade that card faster than pressing the gas and it’s not even numbered, and if Ridder has a successful season 4-5 games , my friend that card will be 11-16k maybe more. The hype is real for nfl.
Depends what you paid for the grading fee on the Ohtani/Acuna but that card is amazing - Ridder is like buying a lottery ticket so not a fan of that move

Shohei is on the path to becoming the greatest player ever, he's truly a rare breed of a baseball player...football quarterbacks seem to be average at best anymore, we're all searching for the next tom brady and at this point there's 1 person that comes close, pat mahomes. Me personally I've been zoning in on kenny pickett and george pickens cards

Geoff, but you didnt really make 15-20k with the NT Curry RPA, cause its not like you paid 130k cash and then sold it for 150k cash. Most of the value were done in trade, so until you actually sold all those cards you took in for trade, its not for certain you made anywhere close to 15k in profit.
Those would have been hard trades for me to make. But I feel like the Ohtani and Acuna card could be a big winner one day

I think part of the reason why this channel is awesome is because he is willing to do fun and interesting deals...just the fact that he actually making deals makes it interesting. I get it he is doing it to make his channel boom, and that's kind of the point of it all...smart.

I take back what I said originally. You could always re-buy that Ohtani Real one auto and the downtown TLaw. You are the only owner of that black no huddle Ridder...also, hind sight is 20/20 but now with Ohtani getting injured it looks even better for you. The Curry explanation is also solid - who wouldn't pocket $20k in 2 months...

Now that you got those cards graded in a PSA 10, the pendulum has swung in your favor. In defense of trading Ohtani, if that guy blows out his arm again or struggles significantly next year, his cards will plummet. He isn’t in the HOF yet.

Don't beat yourself up I sold my steph RPA /5 for 1k after he won his first ring. Most people believed it was a fluke. Not because he wasn't great but LeBron was supposed to be Jordan and dominate. Instead it was Steph who won 4 rings😅
Was it a NT RPA? Either way, ouch. What did you end up buying with the $1K to replace it?
@@tampahomeinvestorsllc7559 No it was Limited i actually got more for it then /99 NT were selling for due to condition and patch was best ive seen. I had to sell to pay bills since I couldn't work do to side effects of medicine. It cuased my body to stop producing Testosterone and don't breath correctly when I sleep. I only get 79% oxygen when I sleep wich has caused cascading issues especially with my liver, kidney, Heart and brain. Then it took almost 5 years to get Disability. So I sold my high end cards to eat and pay bills. It does makes my stomach seeing prices of cards now.
I think the Curry NT RPA worked out for the buyer. It's worth considerably more than what you got for it. He knew it, and he seized the moment. On the other hand, you made a nice profit. So, it worked out for the both of you, a win/win.
only reason people say its a bad trade is because ridder is unproven. Everyone has seen year after year the big hyped QB being a bust. If ridder does well in the nfl, it would be a good trade. It is truly a gamble

I get your arguments, in stock market terms trading Shohei for Ridder is like trading Apple stock bought at peak for an equal amount of Salesforce, lots of room for projected growth. But it is a risk. The PSA 10 grades make each trade easier to like. That Ridder fits your PC makes it worth it to you either way then! 👏
The Ohtani/Acuna is interesting because the norm is a dual auto rc card usually is a bad investment since most times both do not have HOF careers, single is preferred. Also it is a Topps Now card, not a standard pack pull card and thus again not seen as valuable or as desired by the purist. Let me put it this way, if both players continue succeeding and end up HOFer's good trade, if not or just 1 does, bad trade.
I just have a problem with the PSA 10/10s - I wonder if Joe Schmo comes back with PSA 9s on both cards...that seems to be the reality of the grading world unfortunately - and Shohei injury really skews these trades as well...will be interesting to see how it ends up and if he goes elsewhere

Don’t hate the trade at all. For someone with a collection like yours, the risk is completely worth the potential reward. The prizm rookie 1/1 auto is like the holy grail of rookie autos. And I completely agree, I think ohtani is peaked based on the season he was having, and the Lawrence hype I think is still premature. Love the risky trade man, but like you said that’s the best part of collecting is the opinions on collections 👍.
The Trevor Lawrence downtown is now worthless, so good job getting rid of that. The Ridder, unfortunately, is headed to $100. The only card left here with any value is the Ohtani.
There's another important consideration here, and I haven't read every comment so I apologize if this is said elsewhere ... but the Ohtani-and-Lawrence-for-Ridder deal represented a great opportunity for Geoff to play the risk-reward game. None of these cards are the main centerpieces of his collection. They would be for most of us, which I think is where a lot of the reactions are coming from, TBH. But when you have a collection this lucrative, you can afford to take shots. And I know Geoff doesn't want to take a loss, of course - but the Ridder card ultimately tanking won't represent the same level of sack-kick as it would for the majority of people commenting on it.
I love his rationale for the Curry trade, as well.

the other 2 trades were fair to me. no big win on either side and can go either way going forward. but the ridder for ohtani was absolute worst trade ive ever seen.

I would have dumped the Curry card too. HIs auto was re-traced over a couple of times and was shaky on the 'C'. Also, the ink runs into the patch and discolored it with a black stain.

I get the trade if you plan in moving Ridder this year, but definitely a gamble. Long term, Ohtani will have much more impact to Baseball than Ridder will have in the NFL. If you don’t move Ridder this year, I think this will be a huge loss. Especially if Ohtani wins 3rd MVP next year and gets traded. His premium cards will tripple.

I feel both parties got what they wanted in those trades and both are happy. I just wish it was me that got the Ohtani and T-Law cards
I love the Ridder trade. Ohtani I think is maxed out for the year and unless TLaw is in the MVP running his prices will fall. Ridder just has to win a few games to massively increase in value and I think the falcons have a good shot at winning their division as there is limited competition.
Im new in the Hobby, and with that video i learned 2 Big things.
1. Go for cards you like
2. Maybe sometimes you can make decisions for high risk - high reward and if you heart say do it, do it ^^
