It's hard to take someone serious who doesn't use a j to spell his name
Gooseneck Willie McGee did steal some bases but I think who you were thinking of was Vince Coleman
This is definitely a walk down memory lane for me. I ripped a lot of it, but also my dad and I bought every factory set from 1986 topps until 1992 lol
Any value to the 1990 complete set of Tops BBC's in perfect or near perfect condition?
Great video! 1987 O Pee Chee was the first set I ever collected and got me into baseball card collecting as a 12 year old. After a while, I learned that many Canadian kids viewed O Pee Chee as a knock-off brand. It was a big thing to pick up Topps cards on trips to the US, which is probably why I’m still a Topps purist today. I had 2 Barry Bonds cards in my childhood collection that I got graded and sold a couple years ago (a PSA 5 & 6 I believe, so I didn’t get rich 😞). O Pee Chee had better photo quality but worse production controls, making 10s super rare. Also, Barry Bonds was not a hit card. No one had heard of him. I didn’t even put them in the penny savers I reserved for the best cards.
Sleeved and top loaded dale murphy, wally Joyner & sleeved puckett but passed by Ripken & Henderson?? 😅
And Schmidt
He should of look for a perfect gum n hopefully get a psa 10 gum too. 😅😅
And Boggs…
Lol ok I’ll stop 😂
Funny how he commented on others but not yours
I enjoy listening to you, it’s nice to hear someone so humble in describing stuff. Not a no-it-all.
*know-it-all
Congrats on the Barry Bonds RC Pull would like to see another video with some of these cards coming back with the grades
Andre was the NL MVP in 1987 after accepting a 500K contract from the Cubs. This was at the height of the collusion scandal with the owners trying to keep player salaries low by all agreeing not to make offers to other teams' free agents. It's why Carlton Fisk and many others were forced to accept less with their current teams at the time. Also, Fielder hit 51 homeruns in 1990 after spending the 1989 season playing in Japan, the signing with the Tigers. Another cool coincidence that both he and his son both finished their careers with 318 career homers each.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane with this set. These were one of the first sets of cards I collected at 8 years old. Loved this design and most of mine were opeechee. Still have the Bonds, Will Clark and many more but definitely not in near mint condition.
Lol I pulled down and old box of cards I had for my kid to look at and I just happened to grab a handful (maybe 50 cards) just to look thru them and pulled out the bonds and McGuire from this year and had a Deion Sanders baseball rookie a Bernie Williams rookie and a few other random rookies. I couldn’t believe that’s what I pulled out on my first grab 🤦♂️
I've ripped several boxes of 87 OPC. Back when you could get cards graded for a few bucks it made sense to rip rarer wax. I loved OPC and leaf. 85 leaf was my favorite set.
I always liked the 87 topps. I would always buy lots of cards at the flea market as a kid in the late 80s and early 90s.
in 1987, i was 9 years old. Our family went to Waterton Lakes national park just across the Montana border from Glacier NP. there was a little convenience store in town that had 1987 O-Pee Chee and i bought a few packs. I remember pulling an Andre Dawson.
Nice to see u rip some packs instead of just talking about the Hobby🙃Nice hits. Thanks for sharing
Ah, nostalgia! Good luck with your hunt for that elusive Barry Bonds card. Hope it ends up being worth the hype!
I’ve opened up tons of 1987 Topps, but never any Opeechee. Congrats of securing a Bonds. Cecil Fielder wasn’t great w/ the Jays, but once he was w/ the Tigers, he was a home run beast in the early 90s hitting an average of 40-50 home runs in a row!
Thanks for the fun rip Geoff, glad you pulled the barry lamar bonds, did not know 87 topps opeechee went for that much...I worked at a card shop back in 1989 and remember the boss carry in a case of 89 upper deck, what great times.
They don't go for that it's called market manipulation
Twenty dollar card if you can find a buyer! Lol
This is fun to watch, I ripped quite a few boxes of 1987 Donruss. Thanks hope you do some in the future!
Fun trip down memory lane. I don't know about not sleeving up Cal Ripken and Pete Rose but putting Wally Joyner in a toploader lol. To each their own :-)
But it's wally joyners rookie card!
He’s a numbskull
Willis Mcgahee was a running back for the Miami Hurricanes drafted by the Bills and finishing up with the Ravens, Broncos, Browns. Willie McGee was a baseball outfielder for the Cardinals and Giants. Now you know and knowing is half the battle.
we all know
G.I. Joseph
@@benjaminklappert5185All except one guy.
This was the 2nd year I collected & opened a lot of it… remember going to the convenient & getting 5 packs for $1.90 at a time.
I used to buy these regular version boxes in 1987 for $10 at Smart N Final. I always read the stats too lol
I have a complete set of 87 Topps. Spent many hours at flea markets and card shops with my Dad.
Great show Geoff; nice to go down memory lane with you. God Bless
Not only are Tim Raines and Andre Dawson great players from that era, but they are among the greatest players of all time. The accomplishments of both have been recognized by enshrining them in the baseball Hall of Fame.
I opened a lot of 83 Topps - 93 Topps when I was a kid. Now in my 40s still opening alot of the same era.
Vince Coleman was the speedster from the Cardinals!!! I’m a Braves diehard from Rome.. Dale belongs in the HOF!! Remember opening these as a kid, Thanks for sharing
Oh yes Vince Coleman!! Incredibly fast.
Vince Coleman was an automatic stolen base in RBI Baseball. Impossible to throw out.
I didnt know anyone or even heard about collecting baseball cards or coins until I was in my 20s. But just started collecting some cards last year at 52 years old.
87 Topps was the first set I fully collected from packs. My favorite set.
My High School GF's dad was pulled lol. L. McWilliams, Pirates...what a great man. Great to see these cards!
Lmao the Griffey part cracked me up.. Could of just said that's his dad lol
YOUR SO RIGHT ON THE STATS ON THE BACK ! SAME AGE AS YOU GEOFF I USED ALWAYS LOOKED AT THE BACK . LOVE THAT BRETT
Just watched this video and immediately went at looked at my Bonds “section” of binders. I’ll have to look through the rest for OPC to see if there are any other valuable players.
BOOM, I’ve got a Topps and an OPC both raw. Gonna look into selling it
i couldn't help but laugh when you tried to cover up the ripped edges of the Bonds card with your thumbs. It reminded me of the times I use to "doctor" up cards for my dad to sell at full price at card shows. It was a great time to be sleazy. Never met a card dealer that I liked.
I opened the whole box of those, but I didn’t pull the berry, but I got a Bobby, Witt and Mark McGuire🎉😂
David Concepción in minute 16:39. A recognized player among Venezuelans. Red's Hall of Fame.
1981 Topps NFL for me. Pulled Joe Montana RC at 10 years old in 1981, still have it.
I remember buying those packs for 35 cents each back in the day
I opened lots and lots of 1987 Donruss. Greg Maddux Rookie cards was what I wanted. I built lots of sets. There is a Canadian version of this card as well.
Donruss Leaf, I think
The year and set that i started with (well the set me and my dad collected the most) was 1989 Upper Deck low series. Oh and also i think 1990/91 (if I remember right) Leaf. Chasing the big hurt, Frank Thomas
I somehow remember from over 30 years ago that Cecil hit exactly 51 HRs in 1990. I don’t know whether that’s impressive or embarrassing. My wife will surely tell me, though. Great vid and congrats on the pulls!
Jeff, the easiest way to tell difference is the glossy, bright back of the cards compared to Topps dull backs
I happened on to almost every opc baseball set ,my favorite is the 1980 with Nolan Ryan , almost always ruff cut though
Fun 🤩 to open these! People that are newer to the hobby should know that your chances of finding a GEM Bonds are extremely low, that’s why there are only POP 38 of the O-Pee-Chee vs. 1,597 of the Topps version. Most coming out of packs have centering and edge issues that will get you a PSA 7 or 8.
And yet morons keep spending $300 a box trying to pull it and end up with a $40 base set. Seems about right for this channel.
Yeah OPeeChee used HORRIBLE roll cut blades. Too many rough edges
I loved that Joyner card . The in action pic , gold rookie cup and his fame at that time made that a great card . I have about a dozen of them .
Vince Coleman was their real on-base threat.
Great video. Love seeing that!
Ouch, that’s a bummer the Bonds has those weird gouge indents along the sides (in addition to the off centering). I think it was the only one in the box with them. Ironic. Fun rip, though!
Geoff you can’t get excited when you see the Giants logo Bonds was a Pirate in 87.
The guy is like a rock
I have a complete set of the 1987 Topps. But I never knew how rare the 1987 O Pee Chee is.
Congrats on pulling the Bonds!🎉
I miss the backs of the old cards where it would tell you a little something about the player. Like "Bill likes to hunt in the off season" or "Dale raises chickens". Also the baseball game that you could play where each card had singles, doubles, homeruns strike outs, etc on the back.
this is soo true, even if i did just become a hoarder of card ive noticed that 1990s football also has like comments from trainers, like “ he has a great running game but he lacks the ability to catch the ball, he will be working on it this offseason”
Crazy box of cards
Those wax packs have been opened and resealed. Notice how the first packs gum was smaller than the other broken pieces
We loved the stats too and RBI Baseball was great the Cardinals were one of the best with all the speed and with Jack Clark too and also Minnesota was good in that game, we played it a ton!
Beware of the hype!! Chances of getting a PSA 10 of this card is slim to nothing. Getting $10000 for it is probably zilch.
very cool vintage cards!!!
70's until 2002...65 and retired.... Nothing graded....... Your comment just now, I don't waste my time with the new modern era boxes.... Again, Nice Box!!!
THAT WAS FUN. THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR FINDS !
Andre Dawson did lead the league in homers in 1987 for the Cubs. He was in the Cubs uniform in 87 Topps Traded. Also Vince Coleman was the big base stealer for those Cardinal teams
Glad to see Dale Murphy get some love
A favorite player when I was a kid
Love the trip down memory lane!
This video will have me scrambling through old boxes for a while. I opened quote a bit of this opee-chee product. Back then the Topps version was worth more. They did the same with hockey cards and opee-chee was worth more for hockey but Topps was more valuable in baseball. We didnt really get much choice up here in Canada. Opee-Chee ruled the roost pre 1990 north of the border. I didnt realize the Topps/Opee-Chee values have been turned upsidedown in the last 35 years. I dont know if I have any Barry Bonds or not but I know I have a few boxes worth of these cards somewhere to find.
I'm from Michigan and fielders rookie was 1986 he didn't start smashing home runs till we got him as a tiger , 86 Topps we're the cards I opened the most as a kid
Dunston just became one of the Cubs #’S retired this past yr. Was a blast to watch with that arm
I was a year late. ‘88 fleer or ‘92 donruss would my main sets.
My grandma bought my brothers and I a wax box of those fleers. I hustled my brothers out of their 24 packs.
Later on, I had to chase those Diamond Kings.
I bought a box for 20, keeping it intact though. Cool seeing one being opened
I own a 1987 o pee chee barry bonds psa 9, got it for $200 few years ago before the boom
You’ve got a $22 card congrats
Actually $565 APR as of this morning
Andre the Hawk Dawson played his first season with the Cubs in 1987. He tied Rookie Mark McGwire for the MLB lead with 49 Homers that year.
Vince Coleman was the ultimate base stealer for the Cardinals during this time.
I once bought 300 rookie Barry Bonds cards .There was 7 Johnny Ray Opening Day rookie all for $500 at the beginning of his steroid outing.
RBI Baseball was dope!
Are other O-Pee-Chee cards valuable? I have a 1984 Daryl Strawberry and many of the 1985 rookies.
Depending on condition, yes.
Isn't that 2nd year Jose Uribe worth more then a PSA 10 Bonds and Clark together??? 🤔
You’re thinking of the morons that paid thousands of dollars for the 1990 Fleer Juan Uribe after people started posting that the card was worth a fortune. Same with the 1989 Donruss Alex Madrid card.
Watching you, unenjoyably choke down that good ol pbr reminds me
That beer isn’t suppose to make sense. 😂
Project is lit! Or, for youth’s sake, Aww man that’s Phat!
I opened up 87 topps thru 90 topps . opened tons of topps donruss fleer from 87-90 and upper deck from 89-91
1987 and 1988 topps was my go-too along with donruss and boweman . Thank came Upper Deck in 89
Lol I probably opened a handful of those when I was a kid. I used to go to Kmart and buy wax pack boxes for 10-20$ all day. I remember buying a box of 97 topps chrome basketball with how much those packs are going for nowadays it makes me wish I wouldn’t have opened them 🤷♂️ oh well I enjoyed opening packs up when I was a kid
Love this set. My personal fav was the Eric Davis. Classic. Go Redlegs!
I am in Canada I need to go look at my cards and see if I have any of these was big time collecting in the 80s had no clue those were worth that much
Not sure if it's been mentioned, but noticed at 14:20, Cecilio card, contained an error. He's wearing a Pirates uniform with a Yankees logo on the card?
RBI Baseball, greatest sports video game of all time!
There was a start up flaw where you could score 99runs without playing.
Only 7 cards per pack makes it a lot lower odds to pull that Bonds card.
1989 Fleer the Bil Ripken error chased it so many variations and 1989 Upper Deck!!!
Hey. I just noticed, as you go through the cards, I’m noticing some reasonable color differences in the borders of each card. I remember seeing this back when I used to open them, when value and grading didn’t really matter to me. But now, how are cards graded if they don’t match the exact, correct color?.?
Congrats on the Bonds. At one point in time, I collected O-Pee-Chee. The biggest problem with O-Pee-Chee, though, is not knowing the print run on this set. I personally think theres a ton more of this stuff out there than people would like to think.
There is and why I was surprised Geoff thinks these boxes are so rare.
@@carolinatarheels7903 If Geoff wants "rare", then he should look into original sport photographs or at least the 1986 Tiffany Bonds if he wants to invest in Bonds. My personal preference is original rookie photos of Barry Bonds. You just aren't going to beat the rarity of original sports photos.
Yeah this is clearly market manipulation
@@N3XTLVL Exactly. Market manipulation is what sports card grading is all about.
Although I'd guess topps was printed in a quantity an order of magnitude greater than opc, the thing than really makes the gems carry such a premium is the poor quantity control of opc. Opc cards are often very rough cut and typically have worse centering.
I pulled so many Bonds rookies back in the day. I still have about 50 of them.....
From that era, I opened a lot of 1990 Topps trying to chase the no name Frank Thomas. But the most I've opened of any product would be 2021 Topps WWE Women's Division where I opened 15 hobby boxes and 80 blaster boxes.
Why just curious not heckling
@thomashogan7717 Well, I'm the biggest wrestling card seller on ebay
I opened a box of this a few months ago. No Bonds, but I did get 2 Will Clarks
He went right over an Error card at 14:20 1st card IN the pack . A Yankee logo on the card with a player on the pirates.
I don’t remember Reggie Jaxson wearing an Angels uniform and the card says A’s. Error card?
i remember these when they came out . my first packs i opened were the 75 topps baseball with the duel colors on them and my first card was a 71 topps I found in a house that was being torn down across the street from my house , its what got me collecting , my sister would tell me I'm crazy buying baseball cards instead of candy , ha. girls
1989 Topps & Donruss were the most I opened. Still have boxes
Andre Dawson won 🏆 the NL Mvp with 49 hr in 1987. Cecil hit 51 home runs in 1990
Fielder had 51 with Detroit in 1990. Hit 50 and 51 at Yankee Stadium October 3rd
Nobody going to talk about the chewed-up edges on that Bonds?
looks like someone tried to trim it! Geoff tried his best to cover them with his thumbs!
OPC cards are notorious for bad edges. Jeff doesn't know that though so he didn't talk about it. Too busy convincing himself to submit an off center Puckett.
Cut with wires instead of blades as O Pee Chee didn’t have Topps’s printers and cutters.
It doesn’t hurt grading because it’s the norm
Opened many ‘87 topps chasing Will Clark. I think my most opened set was the ‘89 score
Thanks for the video!
A lot of people aren’t aware that the Pete Rose in this set is his last Topps card as a player.
Yeah 1963-1987. Such a LONG career for a great player
I have the whole OPC set, bought it for under 30 bucks prior to the pandemic stupid prices. Own the 1987 Topps Tiffany set and update set as well.
quick question i seen on of the cards in a pack u pulled said yankees and he was wearing a pirates uniform was that an error or a trade?
I probably opened more 1987 Topps than anything. My mom would grab a box for me whenever she went to Price Club. I think they cost around 8$.
Dawson was tied with McGuire with 49 home runs each that year
LOL. You protected Wally Joyner... but not Cal Ripken and Pete Rose... Wade Boggs even.
Forgot about Vince Coleman when you went on your cardinals rant. Stole more bases than all of them.
