I hope you guys enjoy the video. As long as I still can't play League I'm going to try and continue making more artsy/vloggy types of videos like this one.
I saw a lot of people missing more personal videos ever since I made the switch to documentaries so I'm going to try and supplement my content with more stuff that's personal to me :)
Sounds good to me and i feel your pain. I started playing League in the beta, shortly before season one and i haven't touched the game for almost two years now. I especially sentimentally connect to your statement of "i miss League very dearly in my life"
Have you tried to find any kind of alternatives to play the game?, you can relearn it with special hardware :D
I'm just curious, but why can't you play league anymore?
Yo why not make a go fund me I’m pretty all of us can help you afford your medical fees
At 13:00, you mention that the situation isn't designed by the developer, but it totally is? The matchmaking system tries its best to keep you and everyone at 50% winrate. There's no luck when you get put against someone really really good, or get someone really bad on your team; they're there because either you, or them, need a win or a loss to aim better for their 50% winrate.
Saying that every game isn't designed by the developer to be a frustrating experience is only true when you have less than a 50% winrate, so the game starts handing you free wins by giving you all sorts of people to carry you.
Sorry, that was a really really bad point you made.
I like how he straight up says "finding a woman that will love you" is a difficult task 😃😃 i feel you
Makes you wonder what was after that cut/edit...
I especially like how he imidiatly follows it op with: "League of legends on the other hand is interisting".
we dont need that becuase league of legends loves you
Getting to grand master is probably a more realistic and attainable goal.
@@FatalFriction beating faker in a 1v1 is a more attainable goal, lets be honest.
Thanks for that, it's very uncommon to see someone actually defending the game and puting his finger on all the good it does, and you have a way of talking that always satisfies the ones that listen
Well, every now and then I don't play a league for several months. I don't really miss playing League, but I miss playing League with friends and that's why I'll be back. For me League is the best multiplayer player that has ever existed.
This even though me and my buds have been busy after graduating highschool the weekends are amazing in league.
you should play dnd or smth
I had this for a year where I didnt miss league, but then the new season started and I thought "Why not try it" And even though my champ was terrible I kept on playing and then got hooked back in
Yep, I agree with this. I miss the fun with friends over just playing league.

I’ll give League one thing: it helps you develop a thick skin. I’ve been called everything except my own Summoner Name. Oddly, I like to think I’m better for it because I know how to survive insult and opposition in the real world.
Because hot damn, I don’t think there are chemical plants as toxic as silver elo.
Ong, no one can upset me with words, I’ve already heard it all
Plat elo is even worse. It's exactly like silver, even gameplay wise almost. But everyone has an ego 100x that of a toxic adc in silver. Including me

Although i like your documentaries, this introspective shit is my favorite type of content you make. Keep it up, man.
Totally understand this feeling. It is only when I left school I started to miss school alot. When I was in school I hated going to school but now I totally missed it.
i went to dota 2 back in 2012 and started playing league less and less now everyime i see a league video is like looking at your ex girldfriend of 15 years ago
who now is now fat and a single mom , im never looking back , riot games just shits on the players every patch and has garbage balancing especially for players like me who like to play off meta heroes. Maybe you have that feeling of missing something because you never got anything to replace it .
I understand really. I dropped out of school because of my mental health shortly before graduating. The two years that i came back into and worked to finally finish it were immensely happy for me in a way that i could not appreciate when I was younger. Not to say that school couldn't improve in many ways but yeah...
I know this struggle too. I studied chemistry and I just wasn't prepared but it felt like i was just stupid at the time i dropped out.
@@MrRafagigapr imo i feel like ppl shit on the balance team way too much. also unless ur in like really high elos you can still make off meta champs work just as well as meta champs. and since u have off meta builds or champ you might even have the advantage with enemy not knowing how to play against you and they overestimate you.
@@stanloochuu4065 compared to dota 2 balance team league is indeed a joke, I'm sad how much time I lost in league playing abandoned heroes that just suck
I played league since season 1 and in the same boat going to diamond and staying their and grinding back each season. I stopped playing league last year when I just had so many things going on life and haven't looked back. i still miss it once in a while since it was such a mainstay of my life for such a long time. I still remember playing against your irelia in top lane and having a blast. I lost but still was a fun memory.
Holy fuckin shit gbay. Currently struggling with a non-complying body not being able to play league and I connected so hard. The short montage at the end brought me to tears. Keep it up.
Honestly hype he's making content besides league. Think if he sticks to it and finds his "show" he will blow up.
This kind of video is why im subscribed to this channel for the past 8 years

Honestly, thanks for the video gbay.
I think one of the biggest things with league that people who "Hate" the game all the time have in common, comes down to they don't see the improvement and think they are better than they really are.
like you said, targeted practice and the right mentality go a lot into this. most people aren't doing targeted practice. and as such they start to hate the game feeling like it's disrespecting their time and efforts.
EDIT: This also is shown in the whole i play a ton of games i should improve mentality of most people, myself included prior to this month. I had close to 7k hours in the game. and couldn't improve.
This is from someone who was silver 4 for 4 seasons straight, and climbed straight to gold when i actually started doing targeted practice and changed my mentality. even in losing games i had a lot to learn from, and the feeling of learning gave the game a lot of life back to the game for me. I started having the old fun from when i started again.
Moneyball is one of my fav movies and books of all time so i got super excited seeing his book in the background but then he also said it is one of his fav movies too. Man i knew Gbay was a man of class.
Nice to hear that other people learned a lot about themselves with this game too. it teached me to overcome my own toxicity and focus on improvement and things you are in control of instead of complaining about the circumstances
I used to play every single day, for most of the day, for like 8 years straight. I quit like two years ago and i don't miss that toxic cesspool at all. I absolutely loved the game, but after a while, it was just no longer the game we all fell in love with. I did miss it for a while, but now i couldn't care less about the game. It'll get better, in fact, you'll be happier.
@@thomaslaborie757 completely agree, watching it as a sport, or even casually, is pretty enjoyable for me, but playing it no longer has any appeal. I quit out of frustration. Over the years I've yelled and screamed, raged at people in game, raged out of game, i even broke my laptop once. It's just a toxic game overall, it's no longer the charming moba it used to be, there was hardly a meta when i started, items weren't unique, the game looked like shit in a charming way, SF cape bush garen, mostly balanced yet fairly small champion pool, no one knew what they were doing, getting 10 kills meant you were carrying and were probably going to win because everyone else had 2 at most, the camps were for monetary value only, and you could basically only jungle with Warwick or fiddlesticks, the list goes on. It was so much simpler, so much less competitive. Used to be so much fun.
I got way more emotional than I expected to seeing those clips of old GBay videos. I’ve seen each and every one of those and the excitement and emotion he put into his gameplay videos are still unmatched by ANYONE on CZcams.
Gbay, as someone in a similar boat, I know what you mean. I was diagnosed with CTS in my left hand and if I even type on my keyboard too much, my entire left hand goes numb and starts to hurt like hell. I haven't played a game of League in months. I wish you a speedy recovery!
I love this take on League. It has been an unwritten rule in our community to hate on the game and it’s flaws. I’ve always been a believer that League helps people to learn to learn about life. Understanding optimal build paths teaches us how to be economically efficient. Understanding matchups teaches us that in life there are always certain “win conditions” to overcome hurdles. Understanding laning teaches us that in any action we do there is always a tradeoff. Thanks for this interesting perspective Gbay :)).
Playing jungle helps us understand that some people hate you no matter what
Don't hate the player...hate the game. BULLSHIT. ITS ALWAYS THE F**KING PLAYER.
This has to be the most retarded take about League I've ever heard in my life. League literally teaches you nothing about life and you are looking for reasons to justify the thousanda of hours you wasted. You could literally take those life lessons and apply them to any video game. Like how Mario taught me to save money or Sonic helped me get into cardio.
Wtf
This man right here is a fucking embryo

I love seeing your content transforming.I remember watching your ranked tips videos back in the day.
This video just reminded me of how many times I've gone back to watch your old Road to Diamond videos, the energy and excitement you exude even when you lost was just so infectious and made me so happy. I hope you make it to the point where you can return back to league and enjoy what you once had. Much love
when he said "good luck in solo queue" i felt that
Couldn't agree more! Loved the video. Thank you for sharing this
yay it's finally here! that ending worked out so well
I love the documentaries you make and the professionalism to the. But these kinds of personal videos makes me keep coming back for more of your content. I hope to see more of these types of videos :)
Those first few sentences hit hard, I’ve been playing since I was 13 and the only period of time I ever stopped was when I first left home for college and fell into a huge depressive episode. I didn’t play league for about a year (among a host of another things), and when I finally got better I started playing again, and I haven’t stopped since. As you put it, Not playing league of legends sucks
I been watching every vid since the AF documentary, really enjoy your content.
A lot to relate to here, great video! I hope your recovery goes well and really appreciate your openness on it.
I love the comparisons you make and the deep comentary on the game. So true and i love it

Honeslty would love seeing gbay go on the broken by concept podcast and talk with them
Good to see you're still about and doing things. Remembered your voice from back in my college days listening to your philosophical transitions from "The art of war" into the league and watched on and off through my ups and downs in seasons 3-6. Glad to see even without league you're in good health and still promoting intuitive and positive thought provoking content. Keep at it. Best wishes. ^_^
I really feel you on this, Gbay. As somebody who's started to develop the early signs of Carpal Tunnel, I've been struggling with my love for League and had to take a month off. I think I'm a little luckier than you as I've gotten back to playing but still do regular exercises for my wrists and wear compression gloves whenever I'm using my PC. Essentially everything you said about loving League rings true for me. No other game has ever given me such a consistent competitive drive. I hope you're able to get that surgery and play again some day. Looking forward to more videos in the future.
Shoutout to Infinite Jest on your bookshelf. I read that one a couple years ago and probably only absorbed about 40% of its contents. Great book though, been meaning to reread it ever since.
The only time i've ever broken a phone was when I threw mine across the room playing solo queue, so I guess the extreme emotions point is true
This is my favorite type of content from you. Please keep it coming!
Love all your videos. thank you for keeping on and doing what you love, been watching since before road to diamond. Keep up the good work.
I stopped playing league and gaming in general because i just got tired of it, i more or less switched it out with the gym. I miss always having something fun to do when i get home but my quality of life was so much worse lol. it was toxic.
Just disable chat, when i did that my life overall become more joyful and ofcourse still go to the gym
I wish i had never played league. Just a coop where everyone is toxic to each other and the only reward is someone to say hi after 5 matches where people only inted.
Nice vid Gbay, I love your content. It's nice to see these type of seemingly 1 on 1 videos where you talk to the camera
Hey gbay,
Really loved the Personal style of this Video. I started playing this game and watching you around season 2 and i can deeply relate to some things you say. I am also just as emotionally invested in playing. Going through that rollercoaster of emotions is in my opinion the thing that makes live worth living in general. Just a month ago I broke up with my girlfriend and eventough it is one of the lows you can have, it makes you feel alive, just like feeling pain to know you are still alive and kicking can be positive. Really wishing you all the best, hope that everything goes up for you again and keep on making Videos that fullfill you.
MORAL OF THE STORY: dont save for a house, dont look for a wife, dont go to school. Play it safe and use league as a placebo for any real fulfilling life experiences XD
But what is a "real fulfilling life experience"? How are people more real and fulfilling than playing games? It all depends on who you are and want.
@@TheArrivalCyberse because people in the real world are real. the rank in ur virtual game that you got by playing virtual characters in a virtual arena with inputs limited to a keyboard will never be as real as... real things. but if that makes u happy then fuck it, do you. at the end of the day you're just less competion for people who aspire for real things I guess.
@@cannedsquasher5923 I don't disagree with your whole point of view but if you really believe that having a home and a partner are valuable only because of societal norms then you are fooling yourself. They are human universals, present since the beginning of mankind and objectively hold more real world long term value than your LoL rank does.
Well now I wanna play more solo q, thanks Gbay

I don't have this relation to league, but definitely to programming. Almost everything he said - complexity and never being able to see everything, going through hardships and beating your goals. The only thing is that there's nothing zero sum about, but I like it that way so yeah
could we maybe get a book recommendation video someday? you have some great ones on your shelf!
I’ll always remember the time when I was 15, watching your streams on twitch. Asked a question in chat, and you actually answered it. I’m now almost 21 and you were one of the reasons I kept bettering myself and self reflecting in my own gameplay, and I just hit diamond myself
Beautifuly made video, really nice to hear that comparison between real life and LoL

This one hits me hard. I recently came back to league after almost a long hiatus for many of the reasons you mentioned. But I also noticed something interesting. I play with alot of my friends, but I'm one of the only ones who still genuinely ENJOYS the game. They play as a social activity. I'm one of the only ones who actually likes playing, and attempting to improve. But the one thing I never realized until now is this all ends at some point. I'm going to cherish the time I have left playing this fun and silly little game. Thanks for the video, Gbay.

@@toothclon Because you have a brain. What an addicting shit game made to stress you out so you keep playing. Full of unbalanced trash.
It isn't. After more than a year of playing, I realized it was just turning into stockholm syndrome. You spend so much time for a few minutes of fun, and I only stayed because my friend plays it. The balancing patches are pretty trash, and they are pumping champions out that are creative and interesting but the game has so many goddamn characters that it cannot be balanced at all, and some champs are just forgotten. It also has the MOST toxic non-first person shooter game community in the entire market. Unlike a lot of other games, enemies get continually stronger the more you die to them, meaning toxic behaviour is basically encouraged
@@PainAmvs_ true i think most ppl still keep playing cause of the sunk-cost fallacy, you put in so much time (and money for most ppl as well) that you create this illusion of getting your moneys/times worth from it instead of just dropping it
It's objectively NOT one of the best games ever created. Bugs with every patch, balancing sucks, slow and frustrating gameplay (you have to afk for 30s whenever you die? really?), and this frustration reflected on the community over the years. They all became toxic. I'm happy I quit after playing the game for 8 years
