    The incident with #6. You seemed to hesitate there which maybe caused him to think you werent going to send it. Even so, he should have been expecting it with you being so close and him essentially being out of position. The incident is on you imo but he could have taken more care to prevent it also. Great result though mate 😁

    • @lavachemist
      @lavachemist Před 3 měsíci

      I understand that the first incident may have been Will's fault, but I have to say that if I was the yellow car I'd feel like I ruined my own race. A legal move can still be foolish and it's better to give way and lose one position than finish last and argue the corner was yours, especially when iRacing would never consider this to be intentional.

    • @gdarazi
      @gdarazi Před 3 měsíci

      @@lavachemist yes the #6 car turned as if he was on rails, just aiming of rthe Apex not taking into consideration the other car behind so Definitely netter lose a position an try win it back rather than losing the whole race (learned that the hard way though) but Will was definitely faster so he knew if he's lose the position he will never gonna recover it specially that the reason for him being in P1 is the lucky start he had!

      LEAVE....THE...SPACE. Once someone's on the inside of you like that in a corner, it's 100% on you to leave that space for them, you don't just willy nilly shoot in for the apex as if theres not a car there.

  • @moogleslam
    @moogleslam Před 3 měsíci +22

    For the incident at the end of the first lap, the first question is always, did you establish sufficient overlap before the turn in point? Then you really need to know what sufficient overlap is. I used to be the chief steward for a major sim racing website, and our definition was front tyre overlap of passing car with rear tyres of car ahead. Then you also need to know what the turn in point is. You can simply look at when the car starts turning for the corner, but it's also important to compare to their other laps to know if it was their typical turn in point, or if they forced an earlier one to try and close off the corner earlier. So if sufficient overlap was not established in this case, it would be Will's fault. If sufficient overlap was established, then the car ahead needs to maintain space for the passing car on the inside. In this case, I would say sufficient overlap was not established before the turn in point. The car ahead starts turning in, and Will does not yet have tyre to tyre overlap. The car ahead was entitled to the racing line so Will's fault. That said, iRacing would for sure call this a racing incident and take no action.

    • @snake1478963
      @snake1478963 Před 3 měsíci +2

      Everything you said is spot on....except for the part of Will not establishing overlap. I've looked at it maybe 7 times. Based on your definition of overlap Will had his front wheels deep into the rear wheels of the yellow car just as the yellow car began turning in. I think Will was entitled to the room. Not only that, in the heat of the moment, if I know I had a bad exit from the previous corner and got a car up the inside, I'm going to assume he reached the overlap and give space. What blows my mind in these sim races is people forget that there are consequences. If u have bad exit going into a straight just accept that you probably going to be overtaken. Just let it happen and get them back through great driving on the next few corners. Same here, yellow car should have known Will would probably be deep up the inside (which he was) and left racing room.

    • @moogleslam
      @moogleslam Před 3 měsíci +2

      @@snake1478963 I feel like the yellow car starts turning at 21:40 because that's the point where you see that they start moving away from the left side of the track, and Will doesn't have overlap at that point. With our stewarding system, the protestor always had to provide the relevant snip of the replay file; Will didn't give me that :) Then with that, I could adjust the camera to get the best angles, and one angle I'd always use is I'd place the camera directly above the incident. From there, I'd take screenshots, then I'd draw lines on the still images to show the exact position of tires relative to other car, and made it more easy to see when the turn in began. Useful for justifying the decision to the drivers. Appreciate your analysis though, and many times in stewarding, things are far from crystal clear, not to mention that 50% of drivers are usually unhappy with stewarding decisions anyway :)

    • @snake1478963
      @snake1478963 Před 3 měsíci

      @@moogleslam I see. Well it seems like you have a lot more experience in this than me. I was just making the observation that I always notice drivers refuse to give up a position they know they already lost due to their own mistake. This is the type of thing where in real life I feel people would be more cautious and back off. But yeah I see what you're saying, still would have been difficult for Will to brake and back off after committing on the inside even if he didn't have the wheels there. So I can see both drivers not accepting your decision. But that's sim racing.....also classic vortex of danger. Just a tough spot for Will....I really don't see what he could have done to avoid it 🤷. Thanks for the explanation 👍

    • @moogleslam
      @moogleslam Před 3 měsíci

      @@snake1478963 You're absolutely right that breaking a rule or not vs what a driver should do are two very different things. With iRacing, I'm always going to be listening to the spotter telling me there's a car along side, regardless of what I think the overlap is, and driving to accommodate, but I'm also lucky enough to race in VR which improves awareness a lot. If I was the yellow car, and I was hearing that car inside message, I'm leaving space on the inside. If I'm Will, I'm probably not risking it with a late move up the inside. Heat of the moment though, who knows :)

    Great race! I think both incidents are normal racing incidents. Yes you could have been tighter in the first turn but you gave him plenty of space, he just did the turn like you weren't there, so the blame is more on him. As for the second incident, like you said it's pretty normal to slow down too much in that corner sometimes and we've seen other people doing the same, so it's nobody's fault.

    21:25 that was almost identical to what happened to Max and Lewis on British GP 2021. Obviously you're Lewis on this race and the yellow car is Max. However serves him right for jumping the start as he shouldn't overtake on a running start before the start line.

    50/50 ish, but unbiasedly leaning in your favour! Because the yellow car did something weird just before the corner, got out of shape on the left, and it forced him to turn in sharper than i think he would have and think it caused him to shut the door on you! He compromised his own corner and didn't want to give up the position because he knew you were there and he hoped you'd give it up! A professional would have realised the screw up, would have give up the position and slotted in behind as not to destroy his race, as the writing is on the wall in those circumstances!

With him being a D class 1.2k iRating he definitely was just taking the racing line and even though he may have gotten the spotter message it was likely too late for him to react. It would’ve been different if you were more alongside him earlier so he for sure knew you were there.

    Regarding the incident, a lot of people still think it's F1 and that if you're not fully side by side, you have to back out. The nose of the car is beyond the rear wheels, #7 has to leave room. Always leave room. It's the simplest rule of thumb people keep forgetting about. There was plenty of room on the outside, so turning on the inside wasn't the best move from #7.
    "Yeah but it'd compromise his racing line". If you want optimal racing line at all times, go do time attack, idk.
    So to me, racing incident. He didn't leave space, just cut the trajectory (+ his weird line after the previous turn).
    (btw i'm not biased towards Will. I just feel like a lot of people forget about the fundamentals lately.)

  • @jonhartley7238
    @jonhartley7238 Před 3 měsíci +1

    The "Car Right" call is totally irrelevant. Don't consider it.
    Being totally fair.
    For yellow car: They are braking for entry and turn in while you are 100% behind. So no you don't have right to be there.
    They are braking a touch early, but it is first lap and you have already tagged their back end once, so they will need to re-establish balance and control. Earlier braking should be expected by you from that tap. That you don't see that tap is perhaps the cause of this incident. You had to surrender the corner, or risk collision.
    They don't need to surrender, even if there is a collision. If you had passed them without further contact it would have been a bump pass, for the first contact.
    However, they have chosen to turn into a corner where another car is very likely to be, without altering line, and haven't actively tried to avoid contact, so when they come out worse off the reality is racing incident. On your luck that they were equally reckless as you. I don't mean to sound harsh, but it isn't their responsibility to give way for a more capable driver. But it is their responsibility to finish the race. However, there is no adjudication in these races, so I'm not surprised they didn't try to avoid you because they would just lose the position with no recourse.
    An adjudicator may well consider fining you winner's pay for recklessness, and not give you any leniency in future, but, I wouldn't expect them to DQ you or take the final position from you, because in the end it was a racing incident. But only because he didn't try to avoid you.
    I wouldn't expect, if they had tried to avoid you * and there was still contact * that you'd have a leg to stand on when they were considering penalty points on licence. Totally your fault. But that didn't happen.
    Your braking for that corner wasn't sufficient to be able to take a safe line * at race pace * into the corner unless the other car acquiesces entirely. You would have run them off the track.
    However, as a spectator I am not unhappy watching you drive in this way, as it was a very close call and would have been less fun to watch if you had to sit behind them, so just don't do it regularly!
    For the blue car:
    I suspect (but can't know) that they just don't understand trail braking, while you do. They slow dramatically in a straight line to release for grip and turn, to then power out of the corner. Perhaps even taking late apex. This one again is on you, but no one loses out so I wouldn't bother remembering it, except to recognise that some folk don't trail brake well, particularly on-camber where your entry speed will be significantly higher than theirs.
    On the whole though don't let my comments, or these incidents, slow you down or make you more hesitant to over take. Just a touch more patience. Both are just things that happen in racing and get sorted out after the fact. Your racing was ambitious and on point, and it should stay that way.

    Racing accident. He definitely got the call before the corner and stilled looked to try and pinch, you ran a little wide. it’s a tricky corner easy to do 2 wide. Both at fault

      I downloaded i-Racing this week, and I think dirty driving is evident in most sims. That i-Racing devotees consider it clean amuses me.

    If you apply FIA rules Will, your car wasn't 50% past the side of his car when entering into the corner. He had the right of way as his car was ahead of your's by more than 50%. You should have braked to prevent contact with his car.

    Will, you're racing a car that costs less than your sim rig. Come on, man. With all the toys you have at your disposal, you should be driving a proper racing car in that beast of a sim.

    Nice driving, though I gotta ask; do you actually like this car? I hate it. So boring and sterile to drive, it's crazy to me that you literally cannot make this thing oversteer with throttle, even in first gear at 30kph and 180 degrees of steering lock. Even watching the steering inputs in this car looks dull. MX-5 on the other hand drives far more exciting in my opinion

      I love driving this car. But I haven’t driven the MX5 in a long time. Maybe I should give it another shot

      Do it! I'm actually not a huge fan of iRacing's driving dynamics as a whole. Most cars in iRacing, I find that other sims do it better. But the MX-5 is among the best on the service IMO, and it's actually gotten better over the years (aside from the loss of the manual trans, which does make me pretty sad). But it's one of the only cars in iRacing that really rewards working the steering wheel and making micro corrections, and allows you to have little oversteer moments without losing a ton of time, which not only makes it more fun to drive, but more exciting to watch! @@boostedmedia

      Gonna disagree with you there. He would have had the spotter call well before he turned in. Didn’t expect him to jump out of the way. Expected him to appreciate there was a car along side and leave space.

    YOUR AT FAULT!!! I Raced professionally for five years winning two hundred trophies.. here's the rules: if your front tires are not past the driver's position then it's not your corner.. your tires were at his rear tires.. you should have been BLACK FLAGGED... It's really hard for the driver in front to see your nose when it's behind his seating position.. remember this! Front tires must be right across his seating position for the corner to belong to you!!! Had I been a judge on the race I would have black flagged you!!
