Poland save Haiti

  • A true but little known story from the Haitian Revolution. Late in the war, things were looking grim for sketchy old France, with much of their army dying of Yellow Fever. But France had one trump card-a powerful Polish Legion, who fought for France in hopes that Napoleon would help to restore Polish independence. But the Poles were told that it was a prison revolt in Haiti, not a war for freedom… When they got there, members of the Polish legion saw clearly what was happening-they realized this was Haiti fighting for freedom from enslavement, and it reminded them of their own struggles for freedom against Russia, Prussia, and Austria. Many of the Poles switched sides, and helped the Haitians in their fight! When the war was over, and Haiti freed (sort of; more on that in a future video) Haiti gave the Poles full citizenship in the Haitian constitution.

Fun fact, after Haiti gained independence, the Polish soldiers and their descendants were christened 'honorary blacks.' Meaning, under Haiti's new constitution (which was obviously in favor of black people), the Polish soldiers and all their children would be legally defined as black, regardless of their actual skin color.

The three balls that kick Poland in its flashback is Prussia, Austria and Russia. Poland was an ally of Napoleon during the Napoleonic Wars but when Polish troops got to Haiti they felt sympathetic to the Haitians after what happened to them and helped the Haitians overthrow the French. The Haitians allowed the Poles to stay after the revolution while banishing all the French. The Haitians also saved the Poles because if they returned to Europe they would have been executed by the French for treason or killed by the Russians for helping the French.

There is one more thing common in Haiti and Poland. The cult of the "black madonna". It is an image of the Mother of God in the sanctuary in Częstochowa city. In an amazing coincidence, this very old Icon depicts the Mother of God as dark-skinned and with scars on her cheek very similar to those worn by the followers of the Voo-Doo. When Polish soldiers showed small copies of the painting from Częstochowa, the Haitians immediately recognized it as a sign from heaven. Currently, Our Lady of Częstochowa is considered the wife of their God from the voo-doo cult. By the way, it pisses me off that Polish soldiers always have to wander around the world and serve foreign forces that usually only care about their own interests. We lack good leaders. In fact, the French wanted to get rid of the problem with the Polish army that remained after the Napoleonic wars and hoped to fulfill Napoleon's promises to restore the Polish state.

On Sept. 12, 1683, troops led by renowned Polish King Jan III Sobieski defeated the Ottoman Empire army commanded by Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa in the Battle of Vienna, thus defending Europe and Christianity against an Islamic wave. Thanks to this Germany a big part of Europe never experienced Mongols, Tatars etc. On top of this poles fighted on many fronts durimg WW2. A great example is Nr 303 Squadron RAF of polish pilots who took important part in the Battle of Britain. Have some fun facts! I'm from Poland myself.
-One of the most homophobic countries, gay kids are kicked out of their homes by their own parents
-Abortion is not allowed even in case of the pregnancy being caused by something horrible
-60% of the population are Karens and boomers
-The healthcare is mostly free, but it's insanely horrible and you often have to wait months for any type of treatment or appointment and it's ineffective when it happens
-The current president is calling lgbtq people a ideology so that he can get more votes from the homophobic Christians
-Alcoholism and drunk drivers are very very common
-some people want Germans to all die even if they're innocent, even though Hitler stuff is long gone and it was only his fault and almost nobody else's

For the people commenting, that flag mess up was born somewhat a decade ago, when someone accidentally used the wrong flag to represent poland ball and it has since become a meme and a standard in countryball comics.
