China, who over the past year has sent about 150 military aircraft on provocatory missions into Taiwan’s Air Defense Identification Zone, is very upset right now because the U.S. and Canada sent two whole battleships. Now they are all sitting around in the Taiwan Strait, posturing. It’s basically a fashion show but with missiles.

But you need to understand a concept called the secession of state(regime) which includes the succession of land. After KMT got defeated by CCP and fled to Taiwan . There was already a succession of regime and land. So theotically Taiwan does belong to China but theoretically. I mean if this can't convince you,i will say the US signed the Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplimatic Relations with China along with Japan in 1979,1 January in order to get china on his side for competing USSR. the document was about US and Japan announcing the ending of U.S official recognition of the ROC ( Taiwan) which 1978 President Jimmy Carter withdraw armies from Taiwan and the end of Sino American mutual defense treaty... So I mean the US already accepted the one china policy in 1979
