I read the books and was fine with the scene because I didn’t want to see that shit. You act like there aren’t departments the show runners have to work with in order to be able to even partly depict that scene. But I forgot fandoms assume everything is just so easily done that is must be because of incompetence and not because idk child labor laws are a thing and you can’t have a small girl threatened to be raped and watch a small child be taunted about being picked to be killed who is like fucking 2 and then behead the other ones. While also forgetting throughout the show Helena has very rarely shown emotions. And is more shown as almost autistic. And now you want her to abandon that character so she can cry and scream? I swear everytime I read the phrase “in the books was better.” Then go fucking read the books again. Cause yall make the normal book readers look like pretentious cunts. Let’s be real yall wouldn’t have been satisfied no matter what happened. As all book readers are. Fucking annoying
They ruined one of the most tipping points in the show. I cannot believe Helena had no emotion during any of that and immediately gave up the boys identity. She didn’t try to negotiate her life instead of her children’s. I mean how do you ruin this moment that bad when you have so much context to work with that made this series what it is!!
This would’ve been a great season opener, but they fumbled the bag. I understand having Helaena as a dreamer, but it kind of takes away from her character. They just use her as a foreshadowing npc. She actually cared in the books I felt in the show she didn’t care at all. This episode in general was a huge letdown.
So many things wrong with the show version, not shocking because it tells the story from the killers' perspective so its not as suprising, the killers not having a plan makes no sense, Helaena's reaction was weird, and so was Cheeses' reaction to her pointing the kid out like why would the child murderer be shocked by anything at that point? Also leaving out the Sophie's choice part is a crime

The first episode of HOD s2 e1 “Son for a Son” completely botched and rushed the scene. The writers for the show made it very underwhelming.
This pulled it off so much better in less than 30 seconds than HotD did after that Gods awful build-up and underwhelming scene
