Then (only in the the tv show, since the books are not finished), Rhaegar married Lyana and they had a son : Jon. However, we don't know his real name in the book. So maybe he was called Aegon too, like his half-brother. Maybe not. At this time GRR Martin was not on the TV show anymore and we all know the shit show it became. Actually, GoT already made a retcon to the historical Targaryen bloodline, all the way back in season 3, I think, when maester Aemon tells Jon he's actually Aemon Targaryen, son of king Maekar. He also tells him how he refused the ascend the Iron Throne in order to become a maester, which is why his much younger brother, Aegon, became King Aegon V. He then says that the Mad King, Aerys II, was Aegon V's son, when in reality, in the books, he was his grandson. They basically erased poor Jahaerys II out of the fictional history.

Yeah, this was all kinds of wrong in some places, particularly when it comes to the end of the family tree. Rhaegar had two kids with Eilia, one of whom was a son, baby Aegon. *Jon's* Targaryen name is actually still unknown when it comes to the books. But given that Rhaegar already had a son named Aegon, it's doubtful it's that. Also, Aegon I married both his sisters at the same time, not one then another. (So yeah, he had 2 wives at the same time, both of whom were his sisters). In fact, his oldest child's mother was his YOUNGEST sister and was the one who inherited the throne right after Aegon I. Jon's name will be aegon
By the time jon was born, rhaegars family had been murdered. Rhaegar didn't name him and had just died
Basically, rhaegar has lots of dreams like aegon the conqueror does regarding the prince that was promised and it must be a song of ice and fire. Hence stark and targaryen. He tells lyanna. The prince must be named Aegon, hence when lyanna finds out about kings landing, she names her son aegon.

But when he does it won't be because he's going to have some fight with the Night King, because the Night King doesn't exist in the books. There are other Targaryens in the female line too, though Robert Baratheon is the closest legitimate relative to Jon and Dany at the time of Game of Thrones (which would apply to any legitimate or legitimized children of Robert). Jon, Dany, Viserys, and the Baratheon Brothers are the only living legitimate descendants of Aegon V at the start of Game of Thrones. They are descended from Aegon V, but Aegon V's sisters had children and descendants and he also had a fraternal niece and nephew (who was passed for the crown because his father was a psychopath). Of course if you start counting Bastards, it gets out of control. (I know Gendry was legitimized in the show and the Blackfyres in the books, so they are different from the other bastards.) That is not what the 4 seasons are for and there wouldn't be enough seasons to go that far.
Season 1 was from the great council where Viserys was chosen as heir and mostly showed his reign as king and the events leading up to the dance of the dragons. The next season's will all take place during the dance of the dragons. Season 1 had many time jumps but they're over now. The 4th season will be when the war ends.
The show is using material from a book called Fire and Blood. The book is big and covers the reigns of Aegon I - Aegon III and there is a part 2 planned to cover the other Targaryen kings. GRRM is still writing The Winds of Winter and needs to get that done first and then he said he will write more Dunk and Egg stories and A Dream of Spring. So I don't know when Fire and Blood part 2 will be done but it can wait as ASOIAF is more important and that's his main focus right now. He has been busy with TWOW and has 25% of it left to finish writing.

I didn't read the books, and even I know there's no way Jon Snow was the son of Rhaegar's wife. For one thing, there's no way Ned Stark would raise and protect him if he wasn't related to him in some way. Just that fact alone completely blows apart Jon being Elia Martell's child.

I’m sorry but anything post s8 is stupid to me. One of the reasons s8 was atrocious was because you had two guys being lazy flying by the seat of their pants coming up with a script that was based on no source material. So the things that made GOT popular in storytelling effort, detail and anticipation of viewers was totally destroyed.
Let’s put this way I have no faith in Snow.

My friend dated a guy who had at least 3 baby mamas and two of them named the daughter they had with him "Desiree". No joke guys! This guy did not say "yo baby mama, my other baby mama already named my kid Desiree." So yeah this guy has two daughters named Desiree.

I would agree that they’re not the same as the rest of us. It is believed that they inbreed so that they won’t lose their magic to control dragons, but those inbreedings surely have its tolls. To quote some characters from GoT, „Every time a Targaryen is born, the Gods flip a coin.“ He/She will either become a good ruler or mad, and in Dany‘s case, we knew on which side the coin landed.
