Rhaegar was already planning to start a rebellion to overthrow his father as soon as his father went overboard with his madness. He could've united the seven kingdoms under his rule but he fucked all his plans up when he fucked all of Lyanna Stark up.

Littlefinger wanted Brandon dead because of the Duell he lost for Catelyn. Therefor he the laid the trap so the mad King would execute him.
The original game of thrones started because of Lyanna and Rhaegar but in the series it starts because of Bran Stark

Good god, George Martins mind was just running rampant when he wrote this story. It's remarkable that he was able to think all this out and keep it organized in his mind long enough to write it all out.
better mind then the show producers. They couldnt't keep track of people so they cut out huge chunks of family trees. And massacred the character of some. Like Doran Martell? He is made out to be some weak minded invalid who Ellaria kills? He is a bloody master mind out to destroy those who killed his sister, and has three children not one. His daughter Arianne kidnaps Mrycella who is alive in the books, to try and put her on the throne. Ellaria is a whimpering widow with four young kids, Oberyn's older daughters (with other women) are bad asses but they follow Arianne not their mother.

i think that was just a breaking point. the mad king's policy and reign is problematic enough, the people most likely already planned on a revolution.
that's how it is in Westeros, they were arranged in marriage...but its more of his pride being hurt...

Hell yeah! The Tyrells were my favourite House (sporting my favourite colours - Green and Gold). Olenna should have survived given her knowledge of poisons, she was wasted at times although she had some of the best lines!

@@anuvind_m where did you learn that? I’ve read the books multiple times and it never mentions the origin for Eddards nick name. In fact middle names as a concept don’t even exist in Westeros.
I know House Tarly isn't a huge family in itself, but with how important they are to the plot (Sam especially), they should've gotten a mention.
Also, Yara Greyjoy is sitting sad on her boat to not get included.

You should take a look at the full family trees from the books, especially from the Dance of the Dragons war. I can imagine George RR Martin reading about the Wars of the Roses and thinking to himself "THIS! This is what my book needs!"

Nice video! Do you think you'll ever do a chart covering the major houses from the book series as well? A lot of it would overlap with the HBO show, but there are certain notable differences as well, not to mention that the books have *very* detailed family trees for many of the major houses going back quite far in time. I personally think it would be pretty interesting, anyway!

Dear people of 2018, I am from the future and I can tell you that you can stop watching after season 7 and forget all about GoT. You can skip season 8 and go on with your lives.
This is way better and clearer than many other videos trying to explain a fictional world, its history and characters.
Soo what is the problem if Jon is the true king? He can marry Daenerys and then they can both rule and continue the Targaryen incest lifestyle. Its a win/win situation

5:44 - Slight correction: Roberts *paternal* (not maternal, as you said) grandmother was the sister of King Jaehaerys II - still no male-line descendant, but under male-preference primogeniture (which at least most of Westeros agrees should be used) he's the legitimate heir (if you assume Viserys and Daenaerys dead, obviously).

Quite educational. We did not have HBO when GOT was on, so I never saw it then, although my son always talked about it because he was watching it with friends or something. I remember it being in the news even because of the ending of Season 7. Started watching a variety of YT videos and gradually became interested. So I subscribed to HBO Max and have be3n bing-watching, in a probably lame effort to get it all in before the prequel starts in August. Your family tree here has helped me immensely. My brain was fried with all the different houses, who was whose kid, who killed who…….. Thank you.

I have been slow and late to the whole GOT Huppla and it can get do confusing. There are so many characters and who is related to who and who wronged who. It really is a challenge. This chart has helped me SO much. Granted I had to stop and rewind a couple of times but thank you so much. I have a question though. I never realized that Robert had Targarean blood and whoever is king must have their blood. But when Jofferey becomes king he is the first king to not have their blood? Does Bran have Targearean blood?
It would be interesting to see a video breaking down the entire Targaryen line now that 'Fire and Blood' is out. Or even a more complete version of the family trees based on the books. Oh, well. A man can dream.
All this makes me feel so damn bad about S8 all over again. ALL of this intricate worldbuilding, to end in....Arya doing some cool stuff, basically, and nuclear obliteration. What was the point of everything that came before....
The point was that the right to rule by inheritance was a faulty system. There was no telling whether a ruler would produce an heir capable of ruling. Mad King Aerys was a prime example. The Plantagenets were a great real life example; some kings were great but some were rubbish.

Great video but a slight error: the riverlands are not one of the original seven kingdoms. It is part of what was the kingdom of the isles and rivers which includes the now iron islands.

@@liandry4951 I don't like the way the show named him Aegon. Rhaegar was married to Elia Martell before Lyanna Stark. With Elia he had a daughter named Rhaenys and a son named Aegon. High Septon Maynard's diary let us know that Rhaegar and Elia's marriage was annulled in the show. An annullment makes it so that the marriage never existed. It automatically made Rhaenys and Aegon bastards, whether their names were Sand or Waters we'll never know. But, naming Rhaegar's youngest son Aegon is just utterly stupid. That would have severely pissed off Dorne even more than they already were. Lord Commander Gerold Hightower, Ser Arthur Dayne, and Ser Oswell Whent would have known that. Lyanna in particular doesn't seem like the type of person who would do that. It's why I prefer thinking his name was actually Aemon but because Lyanna was dieing couldn't actually enunciate that clearly.

Robert Arryn, nicknamed Sweetrobin, which was then changed to simply Robin for the show.
And although the show left him out, Harrold Hardyng is also an Arryn through his grandmother Alys, sister of Jon Arryn.
YES! You are my favorite family tree channel non-fiction or fiction and I've been hoping that you'd do one of these. Your videos are awesome. If you want to do more fiction lineage I'd love to see the lines from Lord of the Rings and the Silmarilion; such as that of Beren and Luthien, the Kings of Numenor, the Kings of Arnor and Gondor, the line of Feanor, etc. :)
That would be great! Provided he has read the Silmarillion, already. It's such a ponderous tome. I'm particularly interested in the line of kings from Elendil all the way down to Elessar/Aragorn.

After Danaerys died and Jon becomes exiled, technically if they kept the original royalty tree, Gendry Baratheon would have been the rightful heir to the throne. In my opinion he probably would’ve been the best fit for it
