My opinion is that the differences in the genealogy by Matthew and Luke are because they didn’t know each other, didn’t live in the same time and place. The purpose was to convince the Jews that Yeshua (Jesus) was the promised Messiah. In this attempt they created their own genealogy to show that Yeshua was descendant of David as it was one of the requirements of Messiah.
