Show was literally a great scene, very different from this. The sound of jahaerys the infant slowly getting his head cut off as the queen slowly leaves with her remaining daughter is fucking great.

HoTD ruined this scene. It was supposed to be gripping & gruesome.

I believe they were told to kill the son who was not chosen to inflict a psychological scar on the mother

HOTD could have had their Red Wedding moment but they bottled it. What a shame. Still a great show but could have been much better

Honestly they absolutely butchered this. They had a brilliant description of possibly one of the most tragic, metal and disturbing scenes in late television and fucked it up.

Idk the book isn’t accurate because its told from a perspective and the show is worked on with GRRM. I think its a great start…everyone should just appreciate it rather criticize. If you watch it just as pure cinema they knock it out of the park.

Her having to choose which son was gonna die was the thing I was excited to see. HBO fumbled it but I still have faith in the show.

So many things wrong with the show version, not shocking because it tells the story from the killers' perspective so its not as suprising, the killers not having a plan makes no sense, Helaena's reaction was weird, and so was Cheeses' reaction to her pointing the kid out like why would the child murderer be shocked by anything at that point? Also leaving out the Sophie's choice part is a crime

This would’ve been a great season opener, but they fumbled the bag. I understand having Helaena as a dreamer, but it kind of takes away from her character. They just use her as a foreshadowing npc. She actually cared in the books I felt in the show she didn’t care at all. This episode in general was a huge letdown.

Every change the show made away from the books, from Veamons death , Aegon's coronation , Rheanys entrance , Alicent & her men , to even Helena with blood & cheese , all these changes have one thing in common ,they're anti-green and pro-black , is this house of dragons or House of Rheanyra show ?

This pulled it off so much better in less than 30 seconds than HotD did after that Gods awful build-up and underwhelming scene

They ruined one of the most tipping points in the show. I cannot believe Helena had no emotion during any of that and immediately gave up the boys identity. She didn’t try to negotiate her life instead of her children’s. I mean how do you ruin this moment that bad when you have so much context to work with that made this series what it is!!

The book was better

The first episode of HOD s2 e1 “Son for a Son” completely botched and rushed the scene. The writers for the show made it very underwhelming.

Dropped the ball in the show.

It was lame compared to how it's described in fire and blood. No begging and the brates were asleep and the queen gave up her son without hesitation.

A son for a son is a very childish move (no pun intended) why not go for Otto instead or hold alicent hostage, or kill all aegon heirs end his line of succession… that boy is why they lost the war
