  • Buy a Yamaha outboard replacement prop shaft seal here. NOTE: You will need two of EACH part number to complete this job: bit.ly/Yamaha-F225-replacement...
See how to replace the prop shaft seals on a Yamaha outboard in this video from Boats.net. As this video starts, we already have the lower unit removed from the motor. If you’d like to see how to do that, check out our Yamaha F225 water pump replacement video:
    • Yamaha F225 Water Pump...
John will show you how to remove the prop shaft housing on your outboard, which in this case required a little extra work because of the poor condition of the motor. Then, we’ll remove and replace the output shaft seals on our F225 outboard. We’ll also install new O-rings before we replace the housing in the lower unit.
See where we’re working in this F225 outboard diagram:

He is not showing us how to do it, he is just showing that he knows how to do it, making sure that his boats.net logo is visible. If he were trying to show how it's done so that a decent backyard mechanic could follow it, he would have more high quality close ups that gives good detail. But for a basic summary, it's a good video. Better than the one I made ;)

Great video. I’ve had nothing but problems with my lower on my OX66. Finally bought a remanufactured and now this one has water in it. Funny thing was I had a 1987 Merc Tower of Power and never once had any water in lower and had that thing for 20 years. Seems like every year I am having the seals done on my Yammi.

That lower unit looks a lot larger than my 25hp.
I ordered the heavy duty puller. When it came, I realized it wasn't gonna fit. I ordered the seal kit and bearing carrier, the 2 bolt flange is part of the carrier and broke probably when the water in the lower unit froze. My carrier has 3 Orings not 2.
I asked if you had the puller for sale and was told to contact another vendor. The specs for the puller says it's good for Yahama, johnson,Evinrude, mercury, honda, and MerCruise. That maybe true for larger engines, but not lower H.P. models. The jaws of the puller are too thick and wide to fit in the cooling water discharge ports.
I contacted the puller vendor and they want to charge me return shipping of $32. for their mistake !
A nice "How Do You Do" HUH !
    So I have $149. in parts and a puller that won't work ! ! !

It was a good video, I had trouble seeing the placement of the puller inside the collar but other than that I think I could do it

Great video, very helpful. How often do you pump grease in the fitting in the housing and how many shots of grease?

It could be a worthwhile to mention that this tool and procedures would not work at all on counter rotation engine where shaft is bolted to carrier and should come out as one pice. In other words, pushing against the shaft is pointless and would result on ether broken tool or bearing carrier case. It is also nice to a video to walk through changing prop seals on counter rotation engine.

Sad that you will not supply parts for European engines

I am surprised at the lack of torque specs being mentioned. Are there any torque specs to be used in this operation?
