Doug seems to not be aware this V8 model is missing the only option package available that would add nearly all the features he was complaining were missing (Ied headlights, cameras, etc.). In other markets you could even get air suspension. This one also looks like a 2016 model. Newer ones have a different bumper and taillights.

Doug DeMuro Some people might ask why spend tens of thousands more for a Mercedes or a BMW?
As a Korean, I'm proud of what KIA has achieved with this car. I would pay a few thousand more for a KIA for those options if it means saving a lot more than buying a similarly sized and equipped MB or BMW on capital cost as well as maintenance cost.

  • @NovaResource

As a Hyundai and Kia fan, I enjoy when you review their cars. What I would like to add is an explanation of the name K900. That is the US name but in Korea and other countries it is the K9. You see, Kia has gone to an alpha-numeric naming convention for their cars in Europe and Asia. K2 is the subcompact Rio, K3 is the compact Forte, K5 is the Optima, K7 is the Cadenza and K9 is the K900. For obvious reason it was changed for the US. But in other countries it is called the Quoris.

NovaResource As the owner of a 2016 Sonata, it's amazing to see how many parts they reused in this car, fromthe Sonata/Optima line. Right down to the size of the manual and the leather holder. Most of the switches and knobs are the same, the vents, and even the center console and entertainment and climate control cluster is the same of similar. I think that is something the Koreans do amazingly well. They create really great component parts and have no problem reusing them in all models and even makes. And they are so good nobody ever complains. There are things in that used Sonata I got recently that feel as good as any luxury car I have been in.

    Doug,
As a proud owner of a rare K900 with VIP package, I would like to point out some factual errors in the review.
The car you tested is the entry level K900 with premium trim that sold for 54K and not 60K. Next up you had the luxury trim with quad LED lights, larger polished chrome wheels, Nappa leather and additional technology for 60K. When you stepped up to the 66K VIP package, you had full color heads up display with navigation included, industry leading 360 degree camera, reclining rear seats, cooled rear seats etc. The dummy button for headrest that you indicated electrically operates headrest in luxury trim. The dummy K900 button in rear is replaced by power lumbar support. Every entry level car has dummy buttons on dashboard near steering wheel in lieu of actual buttons for advanced functions in higher trims and functionality that customer can add if desired. Oh by the way, the car was tested quieter than LS600HL, S550, 750i and Rolls Royce Phantom. Please get the facts right, thanks...

I give Doug a Dougscore of 10/10 for raising this important issue and recognizing manufacturers like Volvo for putting in the extra effort and thought. Think about how many manhours and new materials a carmaker requires to change interior fonts... can't be easy or cheap.

It is interesting they still have the front seat controls in the rear for a model without the reclining rear seats though. With the VIP package though you get a 360 cam, The 28 way or whatever front seats, reclining rear seats with a cooled function on top of the heated. I'm thinking about picking up a 2015 VIP package for my next car. Definitely a bargain used.

I don't understand why spending $5,000 EXTRA on a KIA justifies this... the car should've had all this stuff standard for the $60K this one cost. It should have it all standard for $50K!
Yes, if you spend $65K you can get all the equipment, but you can also just get an E-Class at that point. WTF?

The K900 was not only the most reliable, but best driving. I never had an issue with it and I miss it. It even HAD the 360 degree camera, so I'm not sure what Doug is referring to.

Brian Beaver NovaResource As the owner of a 2016 Sonata, it's amazing to see how many parts they reused in this car, from the Sonata/Optima line. Right down to the size of the manual and the leather holder. Most of the switches and knobs are the same, the vents, and even the center console and entertainment and climate control cluster is the same or very similar. I think that is something the Koreans do amazingly well. They create really great component parts and have no problem reusing them in all models and even makes. And they are so good nobody ever complains. I guarantee you that is in part what threw him off. There are things in that used Sonata I got recently that feel as good as any luxury car I have been in. My father owns an A6 and I like the feel of a lot of the interior of the Sonata better.

Laugh - I'm betting that he was another among many that grew up in a fatherless household and now as an adult cannot control himself and his anger/impulsiveness issues. I think the best thing for all of us is to try to convert anger issues into more productive means in order to either better ourselves or make more money. Cussing out random strangers online just seems really unproductive, but may provide some short term gratification in our dopamine seeking crowd living for instant gratification yet feeling spiritually and morally bankrupt and empty. Yeah, big picture response, but it's comments like this that illustrate symptoms of a bigger societal problems.

love seeing these cars come in with 20-30k miles on them and the interior is thrashed, the timing chains rattle, the finish flaking off the leather, thousands of miles past due for service, etc. kia owners are still kia owners and most treat them like disposable trash. I feel bad for people who have s-class/7 series money but opt for the kia instead, because the dealership experience is extremely ratchet and incompetent lol

picked up a stinger gt2 i can safely say they will be a sales disaster but! These cars will reshape their brand image so they're a marketing success making everyone forget about their days making cheap low quality cars

Exhaust Sports Auto get that shit tuned bro. What color ? The only thing that bothers me that Doug pointed out was the tail light extended around to the side of the car. Otherwise I don’t think I would have noticed lol

Exhaust Sports Auto There are car-heads, then there are fashion-heads. Then there are fashion-heads who think they are car heads. Carheads like good cars, popular or obscure. Fashionheads like fashion.
It's a two edged sword with fashionheads. While they won't buy a good unpopular car, once it becomes popular they will buy it like crazy, and lecture car-heads on why the car is great, even long after the car no longer is.
All Kia has to do is keep going. The ppl who fashionheads like to imitate will start buying a good car, and eventually that's all it takes. It's for Kia to mess up. Personally, I respect Kia for stealing the thunder from the Alfa and the wind from the LC500. Ppl are excited about a (petrol) car again, and who thought Kia would be the brand to do it.

Kent Patterson so true. People love to hate on a car just because of its badge. We are the few who are objective and can see a dope car no matter if it’s a Bentley or a Mitsubishi.
Damn I haven’t heard that much truth in a comment in a very long time

This car was released in 2012 in Korea and already has new model for 2018. All the features Doug mentioned missing are now included in the new model.

I worked at kia when this came out. Lebron james promoted it and it was hyped but no one would ever buy it. One customer had a fake gold watch and Bluetooth. He was showing off to the rest of his obviously poor family and made us pull it out of the showroom to drive.

Not surprised. There's very few people that would shell that much money for a Kia. Name brand isn't everything, but it does make a difference.
