Mat has got his hands on one of the most luxurious cars he’s ever reviewed - the all-new Lexus LM!
It’s an all-new MPV from Lexus, and Mat is about to find out if this luxurious people carrier has what it takes to compete with top-class saloons such as the Mercedes S-Class or BMW 7 Series.
When it comes to the design, there isn’t much to say about the rear or sides. It comes with smatterings of chrome about the place, along with a rear spoiler, but otherwise, this people carrier is relatively boxy and nondescript. However, once you step around to the front, you’re greeted by Lexus’s trademark HUGE grille! This helps make it super imposing on the road, and it also comes flanked by high-tech matrix LED headlights.
The interior quality for the driver is pretty decent. There’s lots of leather throughout the cabin, as well as a large infotainment screen and digital dial display. There’s a fairly decent amount of interior storage, too, and the seats are incredibly comfortable.
However, step into the back and you'll find that comfort is absolutely next level. We’ve got our hands on the range-topping Takumi edition, which comes with just two business class-style seats. There’s a huge screen that spans the length of the cabin, coupled with several speakers, including two huge speakers built into each door! The seats can recline fully flat, window shades are built in, and there is absolutely loads of storage! This is truly the way to travel in first-class style on the road.
When it comes to the engine choice, there’s only one. It’s a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine that comes with a CVT gearbox as well as an electric motor. There is the option to add an additional electric motor to offer four-wheel drive, but interestingly, both the single motor and dual motor offer 250hp!
The Lexus LM isn’t cheap. It starts from £90,000, raising to £113,000 for the range-topper! So is it worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

MPV (Alphard, Vellfire, LM) very popular in asia.
I think the reason why the heated seat is not hot enough it’s because this car is mostly marketed in Asia, Asia and especially SouthEast Asia its pretty hot and we like to get cold.

Bring on the MPV uk revolution! MPVs over SUVs everyday day of the week! Why we don't see more of these puzzles me. I'm sure the seven seater will accommodate seven adults too. Far more practical than a SUV too. Vive la révolution
I still understand why people living in cities like SUVs .
This is so much better than the V Class.
Yes absolutely
Ignoring all the fancy stuff, its chassis is not a van, and that's enough for me to get this rather than a V-class.
@@Horace20101 and the interior of the Lexus seems to have better quality. Even the sliding door windows go down. A pity about the engine. The V6 turbo diesel from the land Cruiser would've been awesome in here.
@@SDav21 wait, the side door windows on the V-class won't come down?!?!? Geez I took that for granted..... (Both the Alphard 1st gen (2003) I previously own and the Vellfire (2009) I'm driving now are able to open the windows)
There are more engines for the Alphards and Vellfires (the siblings of LM), a 2.4T, 2.5 hybrid and a 2.5 without hybrid. As an Asian I cannot emphasise enough how much we hate diesel engines. The rattling sound automatically links to a cheap car in Asian mind (something like a Ford transit). With a lot of underground carparks in Asia, the "cheap" engine noise will be heard from a long way, which you definitely don't want. First class seats with a transit noise just doesn't add up in our mind.
@@Horace20101 Actually you don't hear that rattling sound on 6 or 8 cylinder diesels. Have you heard the new Mazda CX60's inline 6 3.3 litre diesel? It's so smooth and refined. 6 cylinder diesels sound amazing. 4 cylinder diesels are rattly but I like it sometimes because it sounds strong. Also, for me, the droning sound of a hybrid when it accelerates feels less like luxury and sounds more cheap to me. But I think a 6 cylinder diesel would do wonder here. And Toyota's 2.0 d4d in the previous Gen corolla was so nice and quiet even the 2.2 d4d in the Rav4. It would've suited this car so well because it has the torque to pull it. I absolutely love diesels especially the new modern ones. So much torque, great for towing, light on fuel and they sound strong.
Lexus finally gives us the one car they have withheld from the western markets. Now I hope people would actually buy it because this is just a different type of luxury to the S class or the massive SUVs. Hopefully the flood of imported Alphards are enough to convince people to get the LM
100k minivan. Probably not so much...😮
The grill though, it’s so ugly
@TheSteinbitt I mean you don't see it when you're in the vehicle, so many people go for looks they don't see most of the time instead of just getting the better car, comes down to ego
@@theglitch99 Private jet seats though. Can't get that in a BMW or Merc.
I can just imagine doing a long road trip in the back of this - just snoozing and watching movies & enjoying cold beer - it'd be amazing.
Glad you test quirky cars like this as well 😊
Omg! Imagine how plush that ride is! They didnt have to worry about road feel or sportiness! I bet it literally feels like riding on air and sounds like youre in a cloud!
minivans just seems more sensible to have the 'luxury' name tag than huge sedans, since it offers so much more space
Agree
I actually surprised how affordable this is. On the other side I wish there was something like this around 50k with 6 large recliner seats
Not when it looks like the LX
True. But it is easier (and probably cheaper)to get a very comfortable ride in a sedan than a "van", mainly for the "big box" of a van. But get some air or hydraulic suspension on it and its another world.
You really cant beat the sheer size of the van though. So roomy.
Minivans are associated with trips of pensioners and are more interesting as a city toilet. Another thing is that in limousines there is no shortage of space either, and the president is unlikely to travel with a 5-seat delegation. Besides, luxury is not only space, but also the engine, and here we have a crappy 4-cylinder. And all for a lot of money
Anyone who has experienced this kind of vehicle in Asia…….loves them.
LOL, the four seats one is selling for about 210,000 GBP in China, after the dealers' markup.
seeing this review just to see you rebirth. amazing content my friend
LM, Alpard & Vellfire, South east Asia's first choice when it comes to luxury cars, even here in Thailand with the 300% import tax you can see them every where, and with a super high demand right now the waiting list is over 1 year minimum even for gray imports and in the second hand market they're still super expensive even for a very high mileage 5-6 year old example because here they're only depreciating around 6-7% per year

I've been in love with luxury Japanese mpvs since I found out about the Toyota Alphard a while ago. The Nissan Elgrand, Toyota Estima, Vellfire, and others, the Lexus LM is probably the closest thing we'll get here in Europe. And boy was I excited when I heard that this car will be sold here, even though I fully know I'll probably never be able to afford one

Was very fortunate to be an expat kid in the Philippines in the early noughties. We had a hyundai starex with business class seats and tetris cube go faster stripes (don't hate it till you see it). The car was ultimate SE Asia luxury, felt like you were on the top deck of a 747 on the school run. Not a desirable car for Europe by any means, but only beat by a Land Cruiser back in those days.
In Malaysia we have Alphard and Vellfire. Most of them are road bullies and lane hogger 😂. Saw the older LM only once here in my hometown with single digit plate number which is insanely expensive.
Peti ais bro haha
Those who drive these kinds of cars usually have drivers. And most of the road bullies who drive this type were the drivers and not the owner. If you notice every time this vehicle drives like crazy, it's always one person in the car. And that's the driver. Which is supposed to take care of the car, not race on it.
