      Because almost nobody speaks/knows Latin or would ever have a reason to know that.. and like the other guy said; the logo is a very stylized version of a pegasus. Even after you mention it and I look at it I have a hard time seeing it.
      It's also misspelled so even if you had a basic understanding of Latin and pieced together "equestrian=horsey stuff, equs means horse... equus must be another language that I dont know nor would I like to know... I would however like to know why theres a flying fish on my $70k Hyundai, why I bought it in the first place, and why it's now worth less than a Chevy Aveo"... that's my impression of a normal guy who took Latin in high school and bought the car, drove it for 70k ish miles and has never looked at it before...

      In NZ for most models Hyundai depreciate better than almost any other vehicle on the market saving perhaps Toyota. Generally the better the manufacturers reliability reputation is, the less the depreciation is. Mercs and Audi's etc usually depreciate like stones in the ocean here because everyone understands what a crap experience it is likely to be to own a used German luxury car.

    A few issues with this review.
    Doug didn't mention one of the biggest selling points of this car: the Lexicon sound system which is absolutely amazing.
    He also doesn't mention the air ride suspension which is why the ride is really sublime.
    Also, there's a reason you can get the newer ones for a great price. Hyundai started stripping all of the really nice extras out of these cars after 2013. 2011 to 2013 had the refrigerators, but Hyundai scrapped those from 2014 on. Also, you wouldn't want to go with a 2011 because the following year they upgraded the engine and transmission to much better models.
    If you're in the market for one of these, just do your research and figure out what's important to you. I've had mine for about a year and I love it, but there are quirks that make you shake your head like having Bluetooth calling, but not Bluetooth audio which means you have to use an aux cable.

    • @Hardcorerado
      @Hardcorerado Před 4 lety +2

      Hyundai removed the fridge and the massage feature in 2014. I’m not aware of any other features they removed. Also, Bluetooth audio and dual dvd screens (among other things) were added in 2014.

    • @stevenmueller1112
      @stevenmueller1112 Před 4 lety

      @@Hardcorerado I was listing what they removed in 2014, I didn't say they gutted the whole car and the newer models were POS. I'm just saying that Hyundai stripped some of the features that made their car stand apart from the competition in 2014. I was commenting on the quirks of the model I have when I was talking about the Bluetooth audio. You would think a car built in 2011 that cost around 90k would have Bluetooth audio.

      I bought the 2011 ultimate with less than 50k on it, only one of two in the U.S. I’m this condition on the market currently. Love it and everyone who gets in love it. I wouldn’t say the 2011 to 2012 is enough to make it an absolute deal breaker with minor improvements on the air suspension and the 2012 actually more engine issues reported than the 2011

    I bought a certified 2013 Equus Ultimate from a dealer in 2017 (with a 5 year Warranty). Amazing value. I like to say it is 90-95% of similar Mercedes at a fraction of the purchase price, and another fraction of the maintenance price. Also, because it is not universally recognized, there is a very positive stealth factor to Equus. I never get pulled over by the police. Not worried about theft because there is no significant after market. Passengers are always impressed when they get in the vehicle, because the feel is way better than anybody ever expects.

I was about to give in and buy one for $35,000 when I stumbled on an immaculate "Black Noir" 2013 Equus Ultimate. It was about to click 40,000 miles. For $25,000, it was a no brainer on paper. At the time of the EQUUS, Hyundai also had the first two Genesis models. They were just Hyundai car models. Hyundai determined that Genesis would be the luxury brand for Hyundai and EQUUS was retired. Genesis had new refined models and their own sales showrooms along side the Hyundai showrooms, but a different owner experience. The EQUSS was replaced by the Genesis G90 and KIA got K900 version. This business model is similar to Toyota/Lexus and Nissan/Infinity. Kia was rolled into the Hyundai family and they began offering cousin models across the three brands with quality and service improving year by year.
    The original EQUUS (Hyundai/Mitsubishi) and the New EQUUS (Hyundai) were top luxury cars in South Korea and had limosine versions including bullet proof models sold to dignitaries in SK and Russia. The rear seat features (massage seats, full climate and sound control, cooler, and reclining seats that were just on the rear passenger side, reflect the attention to providing comfort and control to a paying rider using private driver/limo service. You didn't the AIr Suspension System.
    A look at the South Korean wed sites of Hyundai and Kia reveals the long heritage of auto manufacturing. Both brands produce everything from little budget passenger cars to Sports cars, pickup trucks, Limosines, commercial panel trucks and 18 wheelers, as well as massive earth movers from regular dump trucks and forklifts to the two story dump trucks used in rock quarry. The Stinger and Optima were sold in South Korea for years before coming to the U.S.

    Okay, that adaptive cruise brake light indicator is the most ingenious feature since adaptive cruise.. It solves the one problem with adaptive cruise, I've allways wanted that feature! People who needlessly apply the brakes on highways should, as Clarkson put it, be taken outside and shot in front of their families. People love to complain about traffic jams, well if people could look ahead and let the car coast in stead of jumping on the fucking brakes, they would be drastically reduced, and fuel consumption to boot. I love adaptive cruise, but I'm allways nervous that the system is needlessly brushing the brakes to adjust the distance to the car in front. It seems Hyundai solved my woes 7 years ago. Thanks, Hyundai!
